In Kirigū village between the mentioned areas in the song (Mūthithi na Kariara), Nyakerū and his home guards attacked the area in 1952. The entire village was desperate, especially women and children. My grandmother could not leave her two small boys in her thatched house alone( the attackers burnt down the village). In the process of rescuing the boys, she was captured and was mercilessly beaten and left paralysed, a deform that is still there to date. Unfortunately, though she enjoys independence that she fought, no government has ever recognised their effort 😢.
