Good one, Dom. I bought the book some weeks back and have gone through it to find the albums I have and hope to do a video (or several) eventually. Great idea. Keep 'em coming. I think the Amboy Dukes album I have with Journey To The Center of the Mind may be on Mainstream. Alan

Indeed it is! Don't know if the Dukes made the archives though.

I like that album a lot. Me too, favorite Mainstream and that cover is beautiful, the music too (that fuzz and organ sound). Great subject and video, sir! 😎

It's a nice one and that cover is maybe my favorite on the label.

this is the type of stuff i was obsessed with when 15-17 years ago (early to mid 20's) obsessively downloading every rare psych album i could find thru torrent sites, but would be forcing myself to listen to now. i think you nailed it, fun to keep in a collection, but musically it should be a more affordable lp if it weren't for the rare/psych obsessive scene. these days, i much prefer a rare garage/psych 45 and in small doses. cheers dom

I hear you there. I'm not necessarily listening to these records as much these days. But enjoy them when I drop them on the turntable. I guess that's why they stay in the house. At my age I am mostly in search of out there international stuff and the like. Be well!

I found a mono promo for $10 a couple years ago. It's a great album. It did have a repress a few years ago.

You probably heard me say this elsewhere, but I think it’s honestly my favorite concerning the label. Checks all the flavors I love into one. Love me some swaying harmonies. The dude’s voice doesn’t bother me much, there were a lot of weak vocals back then though. Art Of Lovin’ is the next big one from Mainstream I need to track down.

Yes I recall your Mainstream vid. Actually my response to that video was my first VC video actually. I've since sold a couple like my original Lincoln St Exit and 2nd Tangerine Zoo. Good albums but traded em for better stuff. I have to try Art Of Lovin again, it is technically in my w/l but don't remember it.

Great one. I'm one of those who prefer the girls singing :) like the opening "Hard Hard Year", great one!

agree with you there for sure, the woman is way better suited for their sound

Beautiful sleeve on that record. Mainstream is an interesting label and I see a fair amount of these albums from time to time in the local shops. I have both the Amboy Dukes debut and the follow-up Journey to the Center of the Mind Mainstream. Btw...Both of these records are full of surprisingly well-done garage / psychedelic music from the period. I always feel that these two albums get unfairly overlooked by fans of this period. The first album lacks a far-reaching hit like Journey to the Center of the Mind but it does include a nice semi-hit in the Detroit area, Baby Please Don't Go. The rest of the album is great too; lots of garage guitar groove and an interesting cover version of Cream's I Feel Free. The later Dukes albums (there are 7 or 8 total) on Mainstream are just warmed over boogie/hard rock of the worst kind. imo. That is, with the possible exception of the final Amboy Dukes album Tooth, Fang, and Claw (lol) from 1974. It's certainly not a great or even good album but it's listenable 70s hard-rock. Anyway...very cool to hear about the Growing Concern and a nice continuation of the series. Thanks. Shawn

Hey Shawn, talked about it a bit on the stream yesterday but did keep Journey to the Center but the others I never quite fell in love with. Maybe I just have a hard time dealing with the Nuge's presence. But that album has some great tracks and the title track is a truly great one. Check out Orient Express on Mainstream for some psych fusion with oud and other out there sounds.

Hey Dom, have you heard of a band called The Contents Are? Late 60's garage psych. This album reminded me a bit of them.

Hey Daniel. Yes! I used to have it, solid it prematurely I think. Had a Shadoks reissue of it, the originals are stupid rare. I would actually like to re-acquire it sometime. From Iowa I think? cool one

Hey Dom, I'm not even close to an original of any kind. The best I came up with was a CD-R!
