Great interview describing the history of the band and the circumstances around the discovery of the album 20+ years ago. www.psychedeli...

Nice one, Dom! This album has always fascinated me due to a personal connection to Carlinville, my grandfather lived six blocks from Blackburn College. Both the town and college are very small places and located in rural central Illinois. I grew up about an hour away and visited Carlinville often, but was unaware of this record until 15 years ago when I picked up the Shadoks reissue. It’s amazing that such an interesting set of originals came out of such a tiny place.

Hey James. Well if there is a place to find one of those scarce originals, you are probably in it. I think the quality is quite high and pretty incredible they just did the 1 gig. Could have certainly amounted to more.

Love the basement lofi vibe. I have an AA Diaries on the way, hope I can find time to edit it together soon. Great work as always Dom. Cheers!

That is the sound of good three chord band that i belonged to in 1967. Great back story. Very well done.

So many examples of these kinds of bands from the time. But I don't think there are many that did 100% originals with the quality and lo-fi charm that Mystery Meat achieved. Plus the sleeve is fantastic as well. Certainly top rate to me. thanks!

It's a cool sounding record, but as a piece of cover design it's just incredible, it absolutely looks like it could have been designed today. Loved the 'menu' design references on the back cover too. Thank you for sharing 🙏

True, they put together a pretty amazing package for a vanity press. All originals and original sleeve design is not to be underestimated at that time. Thanks for checking in Christophe!

It’s a fun one. Got that cold, meat locker production. I haven’t heard any good things about the repress, so I may never own it. Unless Guerssen or someone decides to do it. I’ve always hated that siren effect too. I always forget about it, and startles me a bit 😂.

I actually love how that siren / organ sound is in there. Totally weird that it pops up and leaves. Wish they actually utilized that in the songs. But I think the music is quality for sure. I think this repress sounds pretty good actually. May be the only way we ever get to hear it properly.

I love '60s garage/pop, but man, for a $1,000 or $2,000 or whatever these go for, it's lower than lo-fi, granted that I've only heard the version uploaded to KZbin, but very tuneful bunch of songs. I'd still call it garage based on the amateur quality of the recording. They were probably a suburban band influenced by The British Invasion. It's in line with the "Teenage Shutdown" series, which is Back From The Grave's take on the folkier and poppier unknowns from '60s. Good call on the Index similarities, one of the first things I thought of when I heard this. Gosh, I'd love to find an affordable copy, but will still with youtube for now.

Issue with this one is even if you had that kind of money to blow on Mystery Meat, you'd have to actually find a copy. Only a few are known to exist.

I picked up a copy of Cloud Nothings - Attack On Memory for $2 and had no idea what it was. I put it on and immediately thought of you and to recommend it. Its lowfi indie stuff and i was surprised how good it is. You may already have it but thought i would pass it along if not. Ive been listening to it a lot lately.

Yes I do know that record, but haven't heard it since it came out which damn...is 13 years ago! They are a good band no doubt, will have to revisit it. thanks for mentioning!

@@seekingathread Yeah...give it another listen. It reminded me of your channel on my first listen and i have kept it on the turntable for a while now. I am really enjoying it.

Thanks Dom. Yes, the album doesn't sound very rock, even with the prominent organ. All of the samples sounded good. I have several of these videos planned, but just haven't made it past the planning stage. - Take care, Chris

Ah ok good to know. Just want to make sure some of the most likely and best contributors aren't quitting the quest!

Interesting album, the music sounds quite good except for the dentist drill part lol. I have seen someone show that album, must have gotten a repress of it.
@seekingathreadАй бұрын
Still just this one repress, and even that you can't locate for anything reasonable. Hopefully it will get redone.
