We have the hydrochloric acid present in our stomach is in much diluted form. And the acid will completely ionize in the water and there is a formation of hydronium ions and chlorine ions. Hence, no exothermic reaction takes place when we drink the water.

The concentration of HCl in the stomach is typically quite high, as the stomach secretes gastric acid to aid in digestion. However, the amount of HCl that is present in the stomach is not sufficient to fully dissociate all water molecules into hydronium (H3O+) and chloride (Cl-) ions. Water is a relatively weak acid compared to HCl, and the reaction between water and HCl is minimal due to the relatively low concentration of water compared to the much higher concentration of HCl in the stomach. Additionally, the lining of the stomach is coated with a protective layer of mucus that helps to prevent the stomach acid from causing harm to the stomach lining. This mucus layer acts as a barrier, limiting the direct contact between HCl and the stomach lining, preventing any harmful effects.
