Hey, professional asset designer and texture artist here. I have a suggestion for you. The flat black of the creatures hide is cool and all, but don't forget there's blood inside that thing. You can warm the color up in some areas with some reds and purple to break up the flat black. It'll make the visuals of the creature more interesting by breaking up the solid space.

@@Brydav_Massbear The reason their blood is yellow is because of the game's "Child friendliness." In early access, they had red blood. Whether the yellow blood is lore accurate is something I don't know. Also, the ice worm leviathans have red blood, as seen with its half eaten corpse.

One idea I had for the silence leviathan (back when I figured it to be much smaller) was that its first encounter with your cyclops is handled with curiosity: instead of outright attacking you, it taps on your hull with its horn, as if to feel you out. After it’s done tapping, you get a momentary pause of silence before it formally greets you face to face in all its frightful glory, and begins its attack. Maybe this could be a rare and brief opportunity to shut down all your noises before it determines that you’re its prey?

What I love about this mod is that it implies the dead zone isn't dead. Maybe around the crater edge, sure, but if you go deep enough, there is tons of flora and fauna. It makes the planet that much more alive and make so much more sense since the deepest point in the crater is actually super shallow compared to like Mariana Trench.

Thats not why the rest of the planet is "dead", its just "dead" because of a lack of heat for life to evolve. And since these islands used to be part of the main crater, they just took the life with them.

Hi, Onat here! Seeing the fanart I made years ago take form in-game and basically looking at my imagination come to life is pretty surreal, thank you very much for choosing to develop the quiet boi. You guys really did a fantastic job and I really like the additional details as well like the cloaking and tying it to silent running mode/decoys, fits very well (I love the de-cloaking effect btw). Idea: if it hears you, make the blue crystals turn a hellish red color, another recommendation, add a heartbeat when it gets close to you or hears you. Another recommendation, If you somehow manage to kill the silence, you will get "silence scales" which you can use to make a cloaking device, when the full mod releases, it will encourage players to venture into the void to find and kill the silence if they dare. Because there is no real reason to go into the void besides pressing E on a computer.

Using sonar could possibly be a mechanic for stunning the silence, as it’s audio sensitive organs would most likely be extremely sensitive and would be overwhelmed by a sudden blast of sound. This would be overpowered, so a large chance of the silence attacking would make sense when sonar is used, with a small chance of stunning the leviathan

I like the idea of the Silence’s head bone being kind of like a fin on top of its head, and then it extends. You could also have that be a way for it to attack things, like if it can’t bite you because it isn’t close enough, it’ll attack with the bone fin. You could also have the bone be unable to cloak, as a kind of early warning, since the bone doesn’t have any skin or flesh on it to facilitate the cloaking ability.

Ik this is kinda late, but for the first part, it does use the head bone to attack things. It has custom attacking animations and when it attacks the seamoth, it uses the head bone and kinda stab the seamoth by retracting the bone and poke it forward. Don't know if there's an animation for the prawn suit though, had a seamoth in my cyclops.

okay so hot take, I feel the leviathan going invisible is kinda redundant and doesnt make much sense lore wise, especially if the thing is blind, I think it would be much more terrifying if it was just jet black, to blend in with the dark waters, make it a little bigger and have it just have its mouth open infront of you, so that all you can do to tell if its there is look at the edge of the screen for teeth, and if you see them, your already inside its mouth, and you have to turn around and do a burst jump to get out before it closes on you.

You know, the Quiet One here seems to be a relative of the Reaper. The only difference is that Reapers are dumb. The Silence however, isn't. It honestly reminds me a lot of the Warden from Minecraft, a blind superpredator that can only detect you through the vibrations that you make. Also, a little headcanon I have for these guys is that they prey on Ghost Leviathans which are filter feeders, and because of how they adapted, they are one of the few lifeforms that can sense the Silence.

Oooo that's a cool headcanon, I can just imagine being out in the void in your ship with one or two ghost leviathans attacking, just as usual if you sail into the void. Suddenly, everything goes eerily quiet and the ghosts start seeming spooked. Then out of nowhere The Silence just uncloaks and starts goin after the ghosts. It'd be so scary to see whats supposed to be the biggest, scariest leviathans in the scariest area suddenly just get taken out by this thing.

Thank you so much for allowing us to access parts of the mod early. It was very frustrating when we got videos about the Gargantuan Leviathan NPC itself basically being complete only for mod release to pushed back until further notice. I understand they have big plans for the mod and its a limited team of hobby devs, but it makes me concerned that the mod is in development hell due to ambitious feature creep. Even if the scope of this project doesn't come to complete fruition, the Subnautica community at least has something amazing to play with today.

It's been 2+ years since they started. Eventually, most of the team abandoned the mod, leaving only one or two people working on it. I doubt they'll ever complete it. At this point, it's just a dick move to not release what they made so far.

The silence is terrifying as intended however it can chase you way to far. I managed to get it to my lifepod then the aurora blew up and i crashed which was a shame because i wanted to see it compared to the reaper. Im excited to see more and i hope this feedback helps!

I wonder if the bone on the Silence's head could be used for something other than stabbing or attacking. Maybe the creature can not only hear sound, but sense vibrations in the water around it much like a Sand Worm from Dune. The bone dagger in its head could be used not only for killing but sensing its environment by having a ton of nerve endings snaking around its structure, which it can 'enable/disable' at will when going on the attack so it doesn't hurt or overstimulate itself. Just some fun lore/scientific ideas for the functionality

hellooooo, I tried the mod and I must say that the effect it gives is exactly what I needed: "An even more dangerous place and with even more mysteries". During the test I had fun getting to the area to start viewing the mod and the PDA warning is really nice. The part that I didn't like and I hope you will improve are the leviathan's animations: 1) they seem too mechanical and unnatural, compared to the other leviathans 2) bug due to its attack animation, it stuck me inside the island making it almost impossible to explore. For the rest, the mod intrigues me a lot and I hope it will be a proud Subnautica DLC

Wanted to comment on the behind the scenes video but ill do it here: To combat kelp lag and reduce poly's keep only 1 kelp and use Alt + D this duplicates with linked data (and if you alter the kelp design it will update everything at once) Or even better, distribute using geo nodes to also keep the poly count low with the added ability to easily give noise into the geometry/position/rotation and scale. Hope it helps! (Btw. If geo nodes interests you but you need help, I could help)

I saw 'The Silence' fanart for years thinking if this monstrosity were in the game is real, i would've never touch the game ever again out of pure fear. I had an idea for a new Leviathan: imagine that you are swimming peacefully on a floating island, but that it seems strangely empty, and that none of the usual little fish are present. In fact, there seems to be no sign of animal life on it. Suddenly, you turn around, and you see a huge Leviathan in the distance. as you get closer, you understand that this terrifying creature is not, as you first believed, a single Leviathan, but indeed a gathering of all the small fish in the area forming a single entity (in the shape of a Leviathan) capable of changing form, or of dissolving so that all the little fish become entities again on their own.

Ok... hear me out... but I honestly think The Silence should be slightly smaller. Now, I don't mean THAT much smaller, it should still remain the biggest aggressive leviathan in the game, but I think it being nearly as big as the Sea Emperor is just a little too much, I mean the thing is nearly the length of two Sea Dragons... wow. So here's my suggestion! 1. Make it's tail about 10% smaller, because as it stands now it is a bit longer than in the concept art. And 2. Take it's full body and scale it down anywhere from 5-10%. After these adjustments it will still be bigger than the Sea Dragon as well as the Void Ghost Leviathans, ( Which, little known fact, are slightly bigger than the normal adult ghosts, making them the largest aggressive creature in the franchise so far) while still remaining a logically sized creature for the world of Subnautica! But hey, those are just my thoughts, anyone who read all of this, thanks!

This sounds amazing. I think you’re really onto something. Here’s something you guys might consider: find a way to include a cut-scene in which a Reaper or a Sea Dragon or a Ghost finds it’s way deep into the Void and have them make lots of noise and watch as the Silence comes and finishes them off.

I'm glad you guys decided to make it reactive to the sonar, it would be interesting to give it a very very long tracking on sonar noise to stop people overusing sonar, but also very evil >.> lol... Realistically though it should just be a case of, if your sonar reaches it, it's alerted, which is already terrifying... You JUST see this thing come up on the sonar and it's already turning to look at you... An, if your sonar can see it, it can see you kind of reaction

Might already be something planned way down the road, but like a lot of the other leviathans that cause mass terror, a juvenile version of this in the darkest areas of the map would be a great touch. Obviously ghost leviathans already lurk in the blood kelp and the grand reef while the juveniles are in the lost river, but I think an area like the bulb zone or maybe even the edge of sea treaders path could be perfect places to throw these since the reapers already occupy most of the other boarder biomes haha. Keep up the great work guys! Really looking forward to what's to come!

6 Months late, but I've got an idea: What if you added a weapon that is 'supposed' to be used to fight the Silence, but it ends up backfiring horribly when you try to use it. Making the encounters with it even more terrifying when you feel confident that you can fight it off, only for your weapon to make things worse for you. Obviously wouldn't be too expensive in terms of resources.

I think the Silence is somewhat OP with it's cloak timings. Maybe it's reasonable to make it visible for more time before attack? Although, you and your team are doing amazing job on this mod, keep it up! The silence is brutal on its own already, maybe could use more work in the heartbeat sounds that its makes when its about to attack you (I think), like make the sound attack pattern it makes more recognisable (roar sound --> absolute silence ---> heartbeat sounds ---> attack) (that's what I think it is ?). It looked way more creepier in normal map than in the void, just like the ghosts - Its because you can kind of measure it to something so you see hoe huge it actually is. Awesome job btw

A small thing that would be great would be if the leviathan would just blind you in the spot it is in on your screen as an ability, so imagine this, you are at the last stretch of the void, you start seeing an island slowly fade in,but all of a sudden on the corner of your eye a bit seems to disappear for a split second you turn around another part disappears for a split second, it looks like a figure of something , parts of the island stop disappearing for a while, you think you imagined then the whole screen goes dark for a few seconds, the darkness finally fades away, revealing a massive jaw of teef just about to swallow your Cyclops

love it. love the Call of the Void mod idea, love The Silence, love the love Subnautica keeps on getting from modders and gamers alike. can't wait for the full release of your mod as well as Return of the Ancients. those two combined with De-Extinction mod will be awesome to replay the game with, not that Subnautica needs anything added to keep being replayed.

Ok so this is very cool. My first thoughts, after installing all the requirements, the mod works perfectly. The Silence Leviathan is really creepy (good job!) and its mechanics seemed to work fine on my first impression. Also, I've experienced 2 interesting bugs: The first is not so annoying, basically the islands can be seen with the sonar, but don't appear on the seaglide's map, which I think is not much of a problem and it's probably caused by the terrain editor you're using so I don't think you can solve it. The second one, however, is a bit more annoying. When you pass over the border of the main island and you return to the same island seconds later, the music resets, no fade, it just interrupts and starts from the beginning. My first hypothesis is that the island might be considered the part where the new biome starts, so the music starts when you cross its border, but maybe the game doesn't consider that the music could already be playing when you cross it. Overall it's a great beginning, and I love what this is becoming!

You could add a module for the cyclops that visualizes The Silence's sound waves so you can have a rough idea of where it is, maybe you could unlock it after you scan the leviathan and craft it from void materials or some other method that requires exploration of the new void biomes.

I would like to bring up an idea for a potential counter to the silence, and it’s a real technology used in both military and civilian submarines, passive sonar. As you mentioned in the video, sonar is where you use a sound wave to map the area around you, passive sonar just listens. Passive sonar’s main use in the military is quite literally to avoid detection while still mapping the enemy. And it would also work against the silence because sonar can’t be fooled by active sound cancellation, it’s just detecting any and all large sources of sound-like vibrations, even if it isn’t truly sound. Even if the Silence was cloaked, passive sonar would pick it up, even if very slightly. It could be a potential late-game tool to help avoid it easier

You should make the silence leviathan a little more articulated, it just looks too stiff, and when it turns around it looks more like it’s just spinning and doesn’t look like there’s any weight to it

First of all The leviathan and its anumations already look great. You did a great job. What I would still change about it however is: a) make the fins on the tail also move with the Leviathan. As of now they still look stiff and make the leviathan look a little bit wacky b) thats just taste but maybe make the sythe on the leviathans head faster when stabbing. Anyways you guys did an incredible job already

I may be a bit late to this but I have two ideas Your swimming to the next island, and it looks like a safe place, bright plants and food sources, and crystals everywhere. But as you get the close, the Mirage falls and you see a dangerous forest, and tentacles from the plant reach out the grab you and/or your sub. If you manage to escape, another creature is waiting to take you down instead. I thought this might add to the "thinking your safe for a moment but your really not" vibe to this mod. For a creature idea, it's a smaller creature but it could be cool. The Acidfish looks a Lionfish, but a longer tail and longer fins. It's main scales are gray or black, and it's accents being gray-blue. You don't see this creature as it blends in well with its surroundings, to protect its self from predators, but if you go to close, it sprays an acid around its self as a defense, damaging the player and giving a slow damage affect even after you get away from the area. Hope you like these!
