The First Church in Nairobi
Step back in time and witness history unfold as we delve into the fascinating origins of our beloved Cathedral. Built with timber walls and an iron sheets roof, ACK St. Stephen's was the FIRST church to grace the vibrant city of Nairobi. 🌆✨ Initially serving an exclusively white congregation, it stood along Jackson Road (now Parliament Road), a historical site where Kenya's Parliament proudly stands today.
Foundation Stone Laid in 1903
With profound historical significance, our church's foundation stone was laid by the esteemed Bishop William George Peel in December 1903. A true testament to the pioneering spirit and devotion of our predecessors, the Cathedral was consecrated on St. Stephen's Day in 1904, becoming a beacon of faith in the heart of Nairobi.
The Journey of Growth and Expansion
As the congregation flourished, so did the aspirations to expand our spiritual home. Witness the groundbreaking moment when the foundation stone for the revamped, modern church was laid by Mrs. Ernest Carr, wife of the renowned contractor who had built many churches for the Church Missionary Society, on June 23, 1923.
