Thanks for watching my first video! I love my "wolfbox" and use it all the time with my BAE. What is your favorite way to get bass tones?

I love the detail with which you illustrated the signal chain, both soloed and in context with the tracks! Very easy to follow!

The best video of acme this far! You are doing important and desirable work for the bass community!

I'm humbled. Thank you so much for joining me as I start my KZbin channel. Check out my Jamerson deep cuts video if you have time. 🙂

I haven't played with this thing, but here's what I immediately notice. Its input impedance is 60k ohms vs typical 1m amp input. Now, transformers reflect impedance across them, however passive sources are VERY sensitive to impedance. I suspect what's going on here is not that there's any magic in this box but that we just have the typical impedance mismatch essentially just moving down the low pass equivalent circuit in frequency. Try running a passive piezo into it, I suspect the opposite happens and you get less bass due to the equivalent high pass created by the piezo's internal capcitance. Cheap shitty monoprice DIs do the same thing, although to an egregious degree. Try running a buffered boss tuner pedal in front of the DI box and I suspect it'll sound very close to the sound straight into to the RME. You could replicate this effect by making a box that puts a resistor in parallel with the input of your internal DI. Say you have a 1m input resistor and you put a 68k in parallel, you'll get a 64k equivalent input DC resistance. No doubt it sounds good, it darkens the bass a bit and smooths out the high end. You could also just put a 6db/oct LPF on the bass to taste in the box lol

This is interesting. You're suggesting I run a Boss TU-2 in front of the Acme and compare the tone to plugging into the RME directly?

@@tastybasslicks Yeah I suspect it'll negate the tonal effects of the DI. By that same token active basses should be less effected by the DI

Jeff..great work!! I don't have the technical intelligence to hear the differences. But you are very detailed and clearly you know what the heck you are talking about!! You were like Blues Clues for bass nerds!!😂😂

Thank you! I really enjoyed learning about the Wolfbox. In younger years, I thought Jamerson's studio sound was an Ampeg B-15... those sound great, but this is it.

Thanks for the great vid! I love the sound of this DI for smooth styles. I think one reason for its tone is the low input impedance of 60k. Normally we prefer units with an input impedance of 1Meg. So I wonder what it would sound like, when fed with an already buffered signal.

I'll have to look up more about impedance. Maybe you can test this out and let us know! I would appreciate.

Great demonstration! It's definitely narrowing the bandwidth, which can be very useful if your kick drum has a lot of oomph. Does this DI get saturated/distorted at all?

Thank you! I do notice more warmth and presence when I use it. After making this video, it has remained permanently in my signal chain - even when I'm practicing.
