Ben for the win! Ben is doing an outstanding job ! Since the format change , the episodes are more about Steve's dream and passion of his boat build,and how he is making it come true. Better still, Steve and "Not a hat rack" Arron are the stars making it happen.

Just realised it's 2 years since I first clicked on the "Lead Pour" indoctrination video.. ;) My how this boat (and whole project) has come along in the last 2 years.. she was just a backbone and half the frames when I was there in December '18.. I'd love to get over again for some more timber time, and perhaps once this covid issue goes away I can look at that.. :) Cheers for the content guys, and as always, great work from Ben.. We just need more Akiva talking.. perhaps a minute or so at the end of each video, as a kind of wind down from the episode.

I’ve watched every video so far and I still get confused with terms when it comes to the parts of the boat or sections of the boat. Aft, fore, sheer, stern, starboard, port, strakes, etc etc. It’s important for me to get these down bc I often get confused when you are explaining things and say a word like strakes. I’ll be following you pretty well and then a boating term will throw me off. Can you do a video on all the parts of a boat using Arabella as your prop? That or send me to a good place to learn them. I watch a buttload of KZbin and this is the only channel that I actually follow religiously. Hang in there! It’ll all be worth it in the end and you are inspiring me and my students (I’m a high school construction teacher).
@Thomas..Anderson4 жыл бұрын
One place for shipwright terms would be shipwrightintraining.wordpress.com/glossary-of-boatbuilding-terms/. But bear in mind that although some words used are the same in the old world as in the former colonies, they are strangely used for different things.

Great to see Ben! I love your work and your music. I also love how Steve takes the time to talk about the mechanicals of placing the bow ribbands (sp?) in this video, and the choices he's making in their placement. It's beautiful to see the boat coming together, but even more amazing is how Steve, Alix, and Ben have shown that the boat is almost grown like a living thing, as so many of the pieces depend on how the other pieces lie. That's true craftsmanship. We tend not to think about that, it's certainly not how a cabinet or a desk is made.

Thanks for the update on Alix and Kiera. My 9 year old granddaughter remembers watching one of your videos with me showing Keira climbing around inside the boat house and using power tools. She was impressed and inspired. She asks about Kiera almost every time she visits. Also thanks to Ben for his work on the videos. The editing and production values are excellent. Personally, I have little interest in music for this kind of video. It was a bit heavy early on, but as he learned his audience, I think it's a better mix. The best music to me is listening to the sounds of a busy shop and the small talk from whoever is working. Not a knock against the quality of Ben's music, he's very talented. Just a personal observation for this kind of video--less is more.

With the few exceptions of the power tools used this all seems like traditional boat building processes from the heyday of the wooden ships. I think following traditional methods is a good thing. In keeping with that tradition, at some point Ben is going to need to film a Charles Dickens type of scene where grubby street urchins are in a workhouse picking apart bits of rope for making oakum to caulk the seams. I have a couple of trouble-making grandbrats floating around here the I'd be happy to ship to you. They've been out of school all year because of the Covid Cooties and could stand to lose a few pounds.

Once you've finished planking and can finally plane & sand the hull to her final lines, Arabella is going to look beautiful! She already does, but more so every week. The view of the planked area from inside looks more wonderful with every single plank you fasten. The anticipation and expectation I feel before each episode is uploaded seems to be growing a little bit more every week - but that makes each video all the more exciting.
