I hope more musuem ships pick up this type of content creation/collaboration. What a great service and history you are providing to all!

Did anyone notice how Libby edited in the propeller sounds precisely at a critical point in Paul and Ryan's conversation? Pretty fancy! 👍

I always enjoy Paul's videos on the USS Cod webpage. It is nice to see him teaming up with Ryan to talk about acoustic torpedoes very interesting indeed!

With the german T-5 torpedo, the standard issue-orders were to dive immediately to depth of 60m after launch from the bow tube while a stern shot was to be followed by a complete silence in the boat.

I haven't been to the Inner Harbor in many years. I remember seeing that sub, but I was always there at night for a stop over, so never got to visit it. To bad Baltimore has gone down hill.

Didn't it take until the 1960s or 70s for acoustic homing torpedoes to be reliable enough to be effective?

Well, they're not that good IIRC, Mk-37's were just slow and small, had issues with their batteries, but everything got better when Mk-48 entered service. Except the Brits, the Brits has 💩 torpedoes post-WW2 'till the end of Cold War

@@M16_Akula-III 'Except the Brits, the Brits has 💩 torpedoes post-WW2 'till the end of Cold War' well, that is utter nonsense and screams like an arrogant American considering the Mark 20 Bidder ASW Torpedo was probably designed for the Submarines of the WW2 era whereas the Mark 24 Tigerfish was the victim of multiple factors conspiring against it but once the Mark 24-Mod.2 Tigerfish came along in the early 1980s, it was a very reliable weapon
@M16_Akula-III Жыл бұрын
@Knight6831 While yes it was reliable, it was still comparatively 💩. I would literally compare it to the NT37C
