I have one almost exactly like that. I think the label says Morosini Carlo - Milano 1881 (I think it is german really? - but who knows). The top carving is a little rougher on the inside, but no cracks. The back, especially the linings near the chin rest are all separated, and a little distorted. Also, the bass bar is just like the one you carved off. I'd like to see how you build a new bass bar, as I've only done one before. I like your videos - very clear! So, thank you very much!

It is a nice one; Carol Lervonzi Sinezi 1822 i think next to Germany in Czech Republic but i could not find anything about him yet. I like the rough/fast elaborated inside because the thicknesses are very much perfect. A fast but precise maker, the spruce is very fine and overall it is a quality sounding and well playable instrument. The bassbar was a little to weak for modern strings and full sound. When i have to make another bassbar i will show it in a video.

@@CJKViolin Yes, milano is Italian (I've been to Milan) - but I'm not sure the label is correct. It looks like a factory fiddle a bit - nice work - but not from the 1730's, heh heh - but maybe from Milan? And nice. But, I think the bass bar will be too weak for modern strings, so I think I'm going to carve it off, and put a new one on.

Never thought of using tape to squeeze the crack together while drying. Why not use clamps???
@CJKViolin
@CJKViolin 3 жыл бұрын
clean closing cracks don't need much pressure, pressure can be applied even, along the cracks, fast and precise. But yes, its not the tool for every crack, varnish & joint!

Not sure what to think of these repair videos.I know that the type of finish will greatly affect sound as well as type of glue.not sure what is better also I know that refinishing color is not a fast process.know someone who claimed it takes a year between costs to cure with five total coats.but I'm not a pro it's all hearsay to me

There are 2 types of violins; artwork and workshop violins... 99% are better after doing my repairs. Less than 1 % has to get the artisan treatment so they wont go bad. This one is an everyday violin maker job and i use traditional materials.

I have a Violin from 1822 but not the same date, the name and date is written in pencil on the wood directly and not on a paper

exciting! Where is ist from, how ist its condition? I recommend to show it to a Luthier you can trust in person/in his workshop, He should be able to tell you more details about what can/has to be done and estimate a repair price, if needed.

@@CJKViolin I’m not sure of it’s history, I just got into playing violin, I wanted a historical piece. It’s in a fairly good condition. Some edges are separating but it’s really serviceable and I can play what I know so far on it. But I will have a guy look it over and make it completely sound. I can’t figure the hand writing on the inside . But I can see it is 1822

@@treysmith8917 Regardless of the time it was made, the musical quality of a wooden Instrument is classified by material, elaboration and setup and repairs/repair qualities. We violin maker look at the lables at last, it is mostly misleading, unfortunatly.

Classical music does not recognize the term "electric - acoustic" except baroque and classical (modern). Violin is a violin, antique violin, is a violin made from high quality natural materials, with great passion from the maestro
@CJKViolin

Yes. The violin is an acoustic instrument, just no-one had to differ between electric and acoustic back than. You can electrify an acoustic violin but you may not do this to an antique violin or an high quality fine made violin. I make next generation violins, stay tuned...
