The Lost Episode (Part 1). Acquisitions Inc. (Jerry Holkins, Mike Krahulik, Scott Kurtz, Wil Wheaton) along with Dungeon Master Chris Perkins play two hours of the next iteration of Dungeons & Dragons. Yeah, he’s just too much. He does bring a lot of creativity to the table but tbh Wil is the hyperactive too-loud player I really dislike gaming with. He makes it about himself a lot, interrupts, screams, and thinks he’s way funnier/clever than he is. I feel like Perkins has the utmost professionalism to have dealt with him so much and never just snapped lol

I love when (at the 50:20 mark) Jerry asks about a table leg in the ED space and DM Chris says it's sculpted to look like Jim, and Mike/ Jim cautions Jerry that it's an antique. That means that Jim Darkmagic took a family heirloom and had it re-shaped into his own likeness. Unintentional, yet undeniably awesome character development.

Me too. Other elements really add to the entertainment value. All players are mic'ed, and the camera is on the edge of the table where no one is sitting. Everyone surrounds the table on the sides, with the DM on the far end. An improvement, in the latest two episodes is that Chris stands the entire time (a technique I've used in my sessions). It works to keep focus on the DM, and the game. As a spectator, I'm never confused by who is DM and who is playing.

Thank you for lending your voice to the new DDO quests, Wil Wheaton! My fellow party member (we were two manning it) wasn't impressed with your commentary bubbles but that's mainly because he didn't know who you are. That first quest took us about two hours (we attempted on heroic elite but quickly gave up, our toons at that level are shit together; then tried on epic normal, not too bad, just a huge dungeon!)

I LOVE Jerry. I'm not a good writer, but I love his manipulations of the English language, and him himself as himself. He's such an awesome guy, and I really relate to him. I don't like Mike so much, but he is undeniably funny and witty, and as a naturally talented artist myself, I _do so_ love his art. Mike looks super cool in his cape, but somehow, maybe because of the lighting, Jerry and his bald head and adorable glasses, and his awesome looking armor, he looks so _awesome_ tonight.. I just started watching this "live D&D" stuff,, and maybe it's the excitement speaking, but you GO, Jerry! You are my hero!

What's more, the kind of game you describe is best run with a group that meets on a regular, frequent basis, to allow for that kind of depth over time. The game shown here is a group that plays once a year in front of thousands of people. It's designed to be appreciated as a standalone, and as a vehicle for interpersonal comedy.

When battle starts, each person rolls a d20 to determine the order of who moves first. Each player usually gets a bonus to their initiative. In 3.5, the roll adds the Dexterity modifier. Monsters, or Non-player characters usually go in a group, but I have seen DMs roll for each NPC individually.

So much like for this comment, my friend! Our sessions (that we haven't had in forever) were filled with jokes, unintentional sexual innuendos and fucking with the DM's head. There were moments when we were in the middle of a campaign and everybody in the party was like, "hey, do you wanna do this? Yeah, lets do that." And the DM immediately had to improvise. He hated us. Hahaha!

There's plenty of "What is DnD" and "How to play DnD" videos around, might wanna look those up first. Basically, though, it's a bog standard RPG (Proper RPG like Neverwinter Nights or Baldur's Gate, both computer iterations of actual DnD, none of that Skyrim stuff) without the limitations of the computer. The Dungeon Master basically "is" the computer, telling the player's what's going on, and success and failure in anything is determined with character stats and the dice.

While the acid mishap is cited for humorous purposes, it really had nothing to do with what went down between Wil and Scott; Wil wouldn't go into overly specific details, but he indicated that Scott was shitty (real-world shitty) to him and to people Wil cares about (repeatedly, as stressed by Wil in tweets and related/shared posts). It had nothing to do with the game. A sad thing, as Wil says himself that he regrets having to sever all ties with Scott as they used to have good times together, but it was something he felt was necessary. (I've read from other sources who also had shitty encounters with Scott, so I tend to side with Wil's indicated reasons....)

This group is more for entertainment of the audience than straight DnD. I let my players be silly because I can trust them to shape up when it comes down to it. It's all about the DM knowing and trusting his players, and keeping the game moving.

I think these guys have stumbled on to something really magical. The internet is ready for a weekly format with the same production value, excellent DM and quick witted players. The only problem is that these guys have other jobs. A few things that really set this apart from other "play d&d" videos: multiple cameras, the players and dm do not talk over each other, the excellent miniature playing fields. Could this all be done as a weekly show? I'd actually pay money for it.

I think a weekly show might be pushing it a bit (for the production values seen in this session and the other two PAX sessions), but I'm sure a monthly or perhaps bi-monthly show is highly possible. LOL ! Glad to see you're from my generation;or shortly after. The 1st/2nd Ed are fantastic to play, if you can find a group willing these days. I prefer 3.5 Ed. I've always been a FR fan and that will never change (unless Greyhawk comes back). Still, I didn't buy into 4th Ed (mostly because I was stuck away in a part of the world where RPG is a not an an acronym for a playtime event). I've begun Pathfinder play...but I'm not sold yet. Good luck with the 80's version...I miss it already.

Is there a similar one that's video that you could recommend? I can't just listen to things. When I listen to something that's audio only I multitask, and story heavy things like this... I wouldn't want to miss something because I was focused elsewhere. Also being able to see facial expressions and reactions to what each other say adds so much imo.
