I have a daughter going to college and I'm trying to determine the best device for her in the event of an emergency or worse.

What did you end up going with Derrick?

Whats worse than an emergency? A a small handgun to cary in purse and a cell phone is her best devices

Invisawear is good for women needing discreet emergency location sharing services if it’s just for urban areas.

You would be able to track her Iphone and also load up a bunch of air tags in her belongings. That is an inexpensive way to go unless she will be doing a lot of hiking in the isolated areas. with no cell phone antennas.

Is she going hiking? These devices are intended for that. It wouldn't make sense to get one of these for city use. Why wouldn't a phone work?

The video is pretty good but the guy says it’s a great device to keep in your backpack I disagree. Do you want to keep a device like this on your person. Just like a shown in a lot of video clips. If you backpack goes over a cliff, your beacon is gonna do no good if you set your backpack down and walk 30 feet awayto relieve yourself and you fall down have a heart attack break your leg and you can’t make it back to your backpack. Your beacon will do no good. Always keep these on your person. What I do is loop the lanyard through my belt loop.

What are the chances of these accidentally being activated? I would hate to accidentally send out an sos signal and not be able to cancel it
@SurvivalSuperhero2 жыл бұрын
Hey Swishanie! It's possible but fairly unlikely. To activate the ACR ResQLink 400, you have to unlatch it and then unwrap it all the way around the phone, then push the antenna up, and finally press and hold the red button. That's pretty difficult to do on accident. It could happen, but it most likely won't. According to Mikele from ACR Eletronics, out of the tens of thosands of beacons they have made, they've only had less than 10 accidental self activations. But there's a thread of people talking (I'll link it below) about this exact thing and a handful of them have had accidental self-activations, so it might be a tad more than just 10 people who have accidentally done it. Bottom line, it could happen, but usually it doesn't, and most people don't have a problem with it. They made a change to the tab that helps prevent false activation. The statistic acr stated for false activation on their previous cover mold was very small.

There's an Amzn review for false activation where he stepped on it. The button isn't recessed either. The antennae on my older, similar, model ACR does come loose very easily. It's a concern but maybe not a high risk. Keeping it in a pouch or something to keep the plastic flap down will help but make activation require another step. If badly injured a cover may be enough to prevent use.
