80% post consumer recycled content means that 80% by weight of the raw material going into the pulping process is recycled paper that was used for something else previously (most likely newsprint, printer paper, or cardboard) The pulping process treats it in order to make the fibers more pliable and of course remove inks, coatings, and bleaches it. The pulp then goes into a paper machine where it's turned into toilet paper. The main benefit of recycled paper is not actually eliminating the paper waste IMO. wood fibers decay naturally and plain paper is 100% biodegradable, what is not biodegradable is the inks and coatings applied to the paper during the manufacturing process, recycling captures these chemicals in the waste stream of the pulping process which does have to be disposed of properly due to environmental regulations. I know that's more info than you wanted but I'm a chemical engineer with environmental health and safety experience so I couldn't resist.

Becky, one of the best backup plans we invested in during the "missing toilet paper" days was a bidet insert for our toilet. We bought a TUSHY for each of our toilets, and WOW, what a game changer! We cut our toilet paper use down to where 1 roll lasts a week for a family for 4. In fact, we like the bidet option so much we are saving up for a "full service" seat that actually hooks up to our hot water, has a seat warmer, and a warm air dryer. I highly recommend this as a better option for saving on toilet paper, and honestly, rarely needing it. I have seen a few KZbinrs that have been sponsored by TUSHY. Maybe you could get them to send one to you to try and review.

if you get a 5 gallon bucket and soak your feed for 24-48 hours before feeding it to your chickens it will make your feed go farther in the winter. also adding apple cider vinegar to the soak is beneficial for their health as well. it will save money in the long run because you dint feed as much grain in one feeding when its fermented/soaked. :} Cheryl

The girls are so cute, and I know you take good care of them. Personally, would love to see more chicken content on your channel. ps: There are refillable non-aerosol oil sprayers you can get. Misto makes one. There is an initial outlay, but you can fill it up with the oil of your choice, it's low waste, and you can precisely control how much oil you want in the pan/ on your salad etc.

Oh, I love to see the girls roaming & foraging around her garden. Great Idea! I'd love to see more chicken videos. I loved Becky sharing how Josh saved their chicken that was attacked & had it's lung punctured. Josh is such a handsome kindhearted young man! They make an attractive couple & they complement each other so well. I wish they would do more videos of the things they're both working on wether together or separately. I'll give you and Becky a laugh (I hope she reads this): We buy organic pasture raised eggs from Vital farms & when I make eggs & turkey sausage links, toast & coffee, I go to the farm that's listed by the best by date on my phone & we will watch the chickens foraging, talking to each other & taking dirt baths & it just makes my mornings that much better & puts smiles on both of our faces 😁🥰. I love watching the chickens & seeing Becky's face light up when she sees bunnies in her garden 😁. Sometimes I miss my little farm & I remember how much time & work I did & I'm amazed at all the things I have done in my life & still able to do (nowhere near what I did as a young woman, but I keep trying. Lol ❣ 😆 . I never seem to give up, but I pay for it the next day or so 🥲🤷‍♀️. Late last night I just finished making candied citrus peels ( orange, tangerine, & lemons with extra lemon juice) I cut them all into strips & gave myself a blister, then cooked off the 1st batch of water & drained that off & added more filtered water & I saved that water after draining & added 2 1/2 cups of reserved cooking liquid to equal parts of pure water & = parts organic sugar & cooked it down to almost the desired thickness I wanted , then added all the drained peels to it & cooked it till the simple syrup was the desired thickness I like & the peels tasted delicious❣ We like to put this on many things, mostly plain Greek Fage' yogurt, lemon tea, & vanilla icecream Yummy❣ I've been seeing the prices going up on our organic citrus, so I wanted to make sure I had plenty. Yhis is tge 2nd batch I've done within 2 weeks of each other. I'm done. Lol ❣ Now I have to order dome freezedried fruit, vegetables, & powdered eggs to last us a while. I’m excited to see your sourdough journey! I love all things sourdough. A fun little sourdough tip: once your starter is mature, spread some of your discard starter on a tray lined with parchment and allow it to dry out at room temperature until it is completely dry. It will take at least a couple of days. Blend it into a powder and store just incase you somehow kill your starter. To use it you would add some to flour and water as you would if you were starting a new starter, but you don’t have to start from scratch. Also, sourdough discard makes a yummy pizza crust 🍕 I just pour it into a hot cast iron skillet and bake it.

If you purchase any organic citrus fruit, wash and dry the fruit, and then put the peels in a dryer or depending on your humidity, you can leave them on our counter. Then put the dried peels in a blender, I use a Vitamix, and reduce the peels to a powder. You can use this citrus powder anywhere. I have oranges, lemons, limes, tangerines etc. You can mix the powder into any recipe and it gives it some zip.

We are lucky enough to be in Southern California where tortillas are available, good and cheap. I buy from a local tortilleria where 6 dozen corn tortillas made from non-GMO corn, lime, and water (and nothing else) costs $250. I freeze them all the time. (Yes, I’m lucky; we use lots of tortillas!) When it’s time to defrost them I put the solid block of tortillas on an aluminum sheet pan. That seems to create a convection condition that speeds the defrost. Works for defrosting other frozen foods, too!

@dreamingfool2

@@merriii8505 No, you just let the milk sit out until close to room temp, pour it in the jars leaving an inch or 1/2 inch head space, clean the rim, and put it in the pressure canner. You keep the wait off and wait for steam to come out of the valve and time it for 10 minutes. Then you put the weight on and wait until it reaches the poundage for your altitude (I'm low dessert so 11 pounds by gauge for me). Once it reaches the pressure needed then you turn off the heat and let it cool until zero. Then you just remove the jars to cool. Disclaimers: The USDA doesn't recommend home canning milk anymore. However, it has been done successfully and it is up to the individual whether you're comfortable to do it. I did a lot of research before doing this and found that certain conditions need to be met in order for the canning to be successful: - Only use a pressure canner. No hot water bath canning. - Use pasteurized milk for longer shelf life. You can use raw milk but I've concluded that it's not as shelf stable as pasteurized milk as the bacterial count in raw milk varies quite a bit. If you choose to use raw milk you should be ready to consume the canned milk within a year. -Canned milk tastes better with lower fat milks as the canning carmelizes the fat and concentrates flavor. So 2% will act like whole milk, etc. You can use whole milk but just be ready for different flavor. - The canned milk needs to be stored in a dark, cool environment for a longer shelf life. UV rays and higher temperatures seem to have a negative impact on canned milk due to the jars being clear. I haven't tried canning with Amber jars as they're much too expensive for me use for large canning sessions. My great grandmother used to paint her jars or cover them in paper sleeves after canning to block sunlight but I haven't gone that far. I just store my jars in a hall closet which has a door and is near my ac. Here is a link to the recipe I used for my milk: ladyleeshome.com/how-to-can-milk/

Have you tried lemon balm for anxiety? It's super easy to grow. Actually it can be invasive like mint is so you want to grow it in a pot. But you just fill a jar up with it packed tightly and cover it with vodka and let it sit a month plus in a dark place and you have yourself a tincture. You can put it in tea or you can just put it in a little water and chug it. It relaxes the nervous system so it can be used for anxiety or to aid in sleep at night and is also good for digestion/ upset tummy as well. You can also just steep the fresh leaves in tea and they have a wonderful lemony taste.

I miss WinCo since I moved back to the East Coast! I was so lucky that when I lived in Beaverton, my WinCo was basically almost right next door to my ‘Grocery Outlet’. Saved me money AND time! And the Franz outlet was just around the corner! Now I need to drive further to save the $’s. And it’s very hard to get it all done in one weekend morning.

I absolutely love watching your videos! They are so informative and easy to understand. Some of the other home steader videos can be a little can be confusing. I love everything about you! (Not being weird 😳😹) meaning how you do things, how you present yourself and what you do for the health and safety of your family and environment! When I shop it's usually at Walmart or Sam's club (I priced compare between the two also) But watching your videos gives me the inspiration to do more homemade things. I've always wanted to live more free from the life of the city and be where you can't hear sirens, honking, guns going off, etc, ect. But for now I can make life a little less stressful by doing homemade things (I also suffer from anxiety and depression) and knowing what exactly goes into your food vs what you don't know, is a way better and healthy life. Plus it keeps you busy and keeps your mind occupied. Anyway keep you the awesome work you do! I, we appreciate everything you do! I just wished you lived closer. Lol! Take care and stay safe! ❤️😸

However I do have a storage area outside built under my extended kitchen which would be perfect.......... But it needs insulation, damp proofing and general Cleaning and de cluttering. You have inspired me to do this. Would love to get it done before Christmas so I can start stocking up for 2023. So thank you for the motivation. Love your channel learning so many things that just don’t happen here in the UK. Stay safe and keep well.❤️

You should look into family cloth. We cloth diapered our son which led me to using re-useable cloth pads. I am the main consuming of toilet paper in my house (boys). I took old clothing (flannel pjs, cotton bed sheets) cut them into squares to sew. I've slowly added to it over the past year whenever I had time (which is rare working full time and having a toddler). I only use them for #1's and regular toilet paper for #2. My stash lasts me about two weeks and I just launder them normally. It has been a game changer. It's so much nicer than regular toilet paper (no bits left behind) and honestly so easy and so simple. I wish that I could more people on it! I'm super passionate about it!

I personally feel like bidet is a better option i mean youre using water to wash the cloth anyway so using a bidet attachement to wash yourself skips that step time money storage of having cloths and loo roll! I mean i was cloth nappys as was every gen before me since disposible wasnt available for them so im all for that for babies and periods but for toilet usage it doesnt make sense. I mean some women even skip nappies for their babies and try to predict when theyll use their nappy and let them go in the sink the air tends to stimulate them or you can run water over them and thatll do the trick. Bonus no cleanup of baby no smelly nappies no wipes. Even if it werent more eco friendy its defs cheaper! My family tends to let the toddlers who arent loo trained go nude in the backyard and just hose em off before coming indoors which given the dirt etc theyd need anyway. Granted we have a rural life such things wouldnt necessarily fly in some areas no matter how secure your yard.

Becky, have a look at Who Gives A Crap. They make two kinds of toilet paper, recycled and bamboo, and they deliver a big box right to your house. I learned about them from an eco-minimalist youtuber I watch, Shelbizlee, and I've been using them ever since. They do paper towels and tissues, too, but I use rags and hankies, so I don't know about those products.

Peets Organic French Roast IS THE B O M B !!!! Best coffee I have had in a long time. Brussels sprouts are a pain to grow. You need to break off all the leaves except the very top so that the rosettes (sprouts) form. They don't need to be harvested until the snow flies so they are the last thing to remove from the garden. Pretty hearty plants.

I have been kicking around the idea of a Costco membership for years. We have a Sam's membership and I think this video just pushed me over to switch. Some of the items you got I have never seen available at any stores in my area. They recently started doing Azure drop off a few miles from us but I struggle to find anything there that beats per price or quality what I can get elsewhere (usually Aldi, Target and Sam's Club are my go to's). I keep checking though hoping dairy and baking will eventually be worth it!

@@lh7501 bulk buying means you will have food for several weeks or months. What’s actually causing there to be less things available for other people is NOT having a stocked pantry at home, those are the people that started panic buying at the beginning of the pandemic because they’re not used to having any type of stock at home so they rush to the grocery store to buy anything they can get their hands on. I am a bulk buyer, I was probably one of the few people in my whole town who didn’t buy 14 bags if toilet paper last spring because I normally buy it in bulk to last 3-6 months. I also keep a 3 month stock of basics, like pastas, canned food, flour, milk powder, meal kits and anything else with long shelf life. That keeps me out of the store for way longer than those who don’t have stocked pantries. I also don’t buy it all at once, I buy a few things here and there to top up, especially during the pandemic. She literally said in the video she hasn’t gone grocery shopping in two and a half months, so I’m sure that even though she buys larger amounts at once she isn’t causing anyone to go home empty handed. Most grocery stores restock their shelves anywhere from twice a day to 3 times a week, so if you couldn’t find something just go back tomorrow and you’ll probably find what you need. The bulk buyers and meal preppers are definitely not the ones who are panic buying, they’re probably the only ones who don’t panic!

Panic Prepping Prepared……This has been around for so many years. And this is where I have been for years. We’ve always lived “ out of town” so running to the store was not a practical option. It makes me happy that many people are using common sense with shopping on family staples. Hoarding is another word & I think that comes from the Great Depression era… I may be wrong. I’m glad you share so much of shopping & cooking as I feel younger generation need to hear this from a young person. I’m 73 so to me you’re just a babe… a smart one to. Have a great day 👵🏻👩‍🌾❣️

We're a dental family too and Ive also been on a rollercoatser w my teeth my entire life so I'll just throw in my 2 cents here. I lost 6 teeth by the time I was 25(and had a root canal and cavitations cause sepsis and nearly kill me) but have tested/changed a lot of things and healed my teeth/body and haven't lost any more, or even had a cavity, for a decade! I would say the biggest game changer was getting a water flosser. Eliminating fluoride has also been helpful in both the dental and health dept. I make our Toothpaste and mouthwash sometimes but my favorite otc paste is seven minerals Charcoal tpaste. Hello brand also makes a good one that is available at most big stores. Xylitol is also great for teeth(I'm not a fan of eating it though bc it can cause GI issues but my kids do like Dr John's candies). I'd say that your dental routine is just a fraction of dental health though bc the majority of what determines it is your diet and microbiome. Sugar doesn't just sit on teeth and rot them, but it does require minerals to be pulled from bones and teeth to digest it, and also feeds acid-producing bacteria so it doesn't matter how well you brush if your diet/microbiome isn't ideal. When my teeth were weak, brushing too much was causing even more damage but addressing it from the inside out and investing in a water flosser is what got me out of the dental downward spiral. Hope this helps someone!
