Becky, I really want to thank you for your inspiring content. It's thanks to you that I started canning jam, and on my tiny 4x8 balcony, I am growing radishes, carrots, tomatoes, herbs, and much more to come! I even joined a collective garden in my city. Big thank you for showing us that we can grow food and be more self-sufficient, regardless of what space we have to work with!

I also appreciate how Becky inspires us to become more self-reliant and that she does it in a calm, cheerful way. She's not a fear monger. I've stopped watching prepper channels that are based on conspiracy theories and fear. They depress me. (I consider myself a "prepper" but am not paranoid about it. I don't run around like I'm about to have my head lopped off by pruning shears when I don't find the case of canned green beans I wanted.) It's just my own theory, and I may be wrong, but I think a lot of the people who are drawn to these channels get a delicious thrill from being frightened--like they would if they read a spooky Stephen King novel. Because of this thrill seeking behavior these channels can become addictive. The viewers need their daily jolt of Adrenalin. Viewers who watch gardening videos are the opposite. I do like the channel, "Appalachia's Homestead." The gal who has the channel is extremely blunt about getting prepared for increasing inflation and our deteriorating economy but she, in general, keeps her sense of humor. (She considers herself a "prepper.")

Absolutely awesome. There is always a way. For those who want to grow more neatly indoors try the Park Seed Biodome for seed starting. Instead of messy soil, these use planting plugs fitted for styrofoam blocks. A bit on the pricey side ($49 for a starter set) but so worth it and so well made. With an LED light strip and heat mat you can easily grow leafy greens, lettuces and even Pak Choi all year round in them. A real game changer for me.

Hi Becky! So glad you are feeling a little better! Just a suggestion and maybe you already looked at this idea - but I saw another video where they put a gutter on their hen house and made a rain catchment system to help provide water to their chickens. I don't have any experience gardening or chickens but I just thought it was cool and thought it might help with not having to attend the girls everyday ;) Love your channel!

I think the new position is under a big tree and very dry. She could do this when she knocks the old chicken hut down and builds her beautiful potting shed, that would work really well if it stays by the chicken fence. Great idea.

I am so happy I found your channel a couple of weeks ago. I went through my third breast cancer this winter. It made me decide to retire from my job to spend more time with family and friends. I’ve been mulling over what to do with all the time I now have on my hands. Your videos have inspired me to begin canning again, something I haven’t done since my 20’s. I’m also trying my hand at growing some veggies and herbs. Nothing on the scale that you grow, just some container growing this year. Thanks for helping this middle aged lady find enjoyable things to do.

Hi Becky....love how your mushrooms are spreading "all over the place". i think it looks kind of rustic and homey that way but if you want them to keep growing and spreading please stop pulling the mushrooms up by the roots. Just cut them off and leave the roots to grow again and spread. Pulling the fruits ups by the roots doesn't allow the runners to keep growing.
@ferniek5000
@ferniek5000 2 жыл бұрын
At the beginning I thought this too, but I think mushrooms grow and spread by mycillium which propagate when they have spread throughout the medium. Not quite like the roots of a plant.
@MK-ti2oo
@MK-ti2oo 2 жыл бұрын
This is not the case at all. It does not hurt the mycelium at all, in fact, often the disturbance in the mycelium from pulling will initiate further fruiting. This is kind of akin to pulling an apple off the tree including its stem, the tree doesn't die or stop producing because you pulled the stem with the apple.

That wild bird flu that is spreading across the country has arrived in our NW WA county, and several backyard flocks have had to be destroyed. So to safeguard our flock we have covered our run with corrugated plastic panels (the kind that’s wavy) and use a chicken nipple feeder from a closed system as a water source for our flock. As we were finalizing our plans for building the coop and run (when we heard the avian flu was rapidly spreading through the state), we used 1/4” hardware cloth over the coop’s windows and to enclose the run. This not only add extra protection from predators, it excludes small wild birds. We also never wear street shoes into the run. We bought cheap knock-off crocs that we keep on a peg inside the run door.

I made a feeder out of a 5 gal bucket and 45 degree pvc pipe 2 1/2 inch diameter and it worked great until I upgraded to 4 inch pvc and all the birds thought they found a new open diner. I wouldn't mind but the organic layer feed is $47 a bag, Now that summer is here I can put a tarp over the chicken run and get the feeder back out. I can't tarp in the winter due to snow loads. Your feeder looks like small birds would not be able to access the feed. If you get a chance to try Thai Basil, it is very nice and has a spicy flavor,

You are so blessed to have all that growing space! So much better to grow food than more lawn, keep up the good work.

I love how easy chickens are. We went to Mexico for 4 days. I filled a 5 gallon thing of water and feed and off we went. Chickens were perfectly fine, broody but fine lol

Becky, I started gardening 4 years ago too. This is our first year at our new place so I’m upping the production by a lot so we have enough to preserve. I enjoy your channel.

OMG yes, bird insurance! I started big jim pepper seeds, hardened both of the plants off, planted them in the backyard and the birds ate them the next day. :( I had to replant by direct sow...I hope the birds don't eat them again. I planted some Zinnia based on your videos and 2 of them just sprung tiny petals! ❤️

Hope you feel better soon Becky. Can barely wait to see seeds/plants grow vegetables/fruit. Per usual you were quite productive. Love the new chicken feeder, beautiful. Sure the girls are loving it. You’re such a good momma to them.
