My mom taught me how to roast a turkey so when I grew up, I could do it myself; I married a sailor, moved away, and raised two children; every Thanksgiving, our extended family comes to my house, and my turkey is always fabulous; my mom has since passed, but her turkey lives on.

@@bobbiek2960dry brine !! Never dry! And remember to stop cooking turkey at some point after 150 degrees before 160 I usually leave it in the oven with the oven off and left slightly open and cover with aluminum foil it continues cooking up to the needed temperature
@theresak43433 күн бұрын
@@Debra_Hasatheory Brine the turkey; brine is made with water and salt, and sometimes sugar, vegetables, herbs, or whatever you like; put the turkey to a large bowl or bucket breast-side down into the brine, and refrigerate for 12 to 24 hours; mix soft butter with herbs and garlic, or whatever you like; spread under the skin (not on top, butter can't penetrate the skin); roast at 325 degrees until internal temp at the largest part of the breast is 155-160 degrees (I ALWAYS use a thermometer); turn oven up to 400 degrees, and roast an additonal 20 minutes or so until the skin is crispy. I'm sure there are many ways to make a great turkey, but this is what I do. Happy Thanksgiving to all!

THIS! I used to work security at a hospital, so I never got the holidays off, but my family would cater to my brother who just simply didn't want to work around my schedule to try and make it work. So, for several years, I would miss Thanksgiving with my family and I am still angry to this day that I even missed the last Thanksgiving with my mother because my self-employed brother couldn't get off work to come on MY day off, but he managed to fly to Chicago to watch the Cubs win the World Series FROM A BAR across the street from Wrigley Field.... Sorry, I'm still very bitter. I love it when I hear families actually be considerate of each other.

I really enjoy watching you two together: i have learned so much about cooking and organizing. Yams are nothing like a sweet potato-not as sweet, white flesh, and starchy. They can grow quite large, and when cooked and pounded with water, make a lovely food called fufu in Ghana. It is eaten dipped in some kind of sauce or stew. Our favorite sauce is Groundnut(peanut) Stew, but there are endless types. Yams are widely eaten all over Africa and in Asis, too, I think. Wow! I was able to share something with you!! You two always make me smile and feel good. Thank you!

The aluminum will leach into the food especially if it has acid like tomato or citrus. The aluminum will cause brain damage, it's a neurotoxin. Just like fluoride it has the same alzhimers effect. Thank you for sharing your family traditions. My family is too large to get together in one place and we are going to a place in Nebraska that is located at Mahoney State Park. This is a large venue that provides a buffet style dinner with a large variety of menu options. Turkey, ham, chicken, salmon, prime rib, beef. However, the price is like $50/person. They have a cash bar with alcoholic drinks which is very pricey as well. I work full time as a RN and I happen to have more money than time at this point in my life so it works out. Plus it's located in a beautiful setting where we can all go outside for a walk on their trails after we over indulge. I would prefer your style and it's going to be great that you know where your food is coming from and it's properly prepared with LOVE! Have fun you guys. It was fun watching you put it all together.
