Acres of Clams (Old Settler's Song)
In the mid-1800's, the thousands of people who prospected for California gold met with bitter disappointment. They did not find the fortunes they had hoped for. When they got fed up with panning for gold, they often headed north to Washington Territory and the beautiful shores of Puget Sound. As they traveled, they dreamed and sang of being surrounded by clams, digging for clams, and being happy as clams. The tune to this song is from the early 19th century song "Old Rosin the Beau". The words are attributed to Judge Francis D. Henry who wrote them around 1874.
