Fun fact- while they may both be similar in size, Acrocanthosaurus and Tyrannosaurus evolved in very different ways! Acro is one of the last of a lineage of giant American allosauroid predators that started and stayed giant, building up their predatory efficiency as they evolved. You can see this in the evolution of their leg, as their hip joints' structure became more efficient at movement and weight support from primitive allosauroids like Sinraptor, to the late Jurassic Allosaurus, to Acrocanthosaurus itself. Meanwhile, tyrannosauroids evolved most of their specialised features (like keen senses and high speed) as small predators in Europe and Asia, and only then grew giant and powerful. And while they did live in North America, tyrannosaurs' most successful lineages were all Asian immigrants- arriving once in the Jurassic, a second time as smaller predators ten million years after Acrocanthosaurus, and then finally having Tyrannosaurus itself evolve from Asian ancestors that replaced their North American relatives!
