• Video -~-
I know spiders can be misunderstood creatures but there’s not a chance that Acromantulas fall into that category. They are terrifying. As a matter of fact, Acromantulas are my least favourite creature in the entire Harry Potter series but at the same time, they are so interesting to read about. What’s also fascinating is the history behind them, how they operate and the story of their most notable being, Aragog, is a tale thats definitely worth telling. So everyone in todays video, thats exactly what I’m going to do, I’ll take you all through the history of acromantulas in the Wizarding World and tell you the origins story of Aragog. With that being said, welcome back to the world of Harry Potter, please enjoy the video.

how dare you call yourself a shaman ? do you know how long it takes to train a shaman and the hells they travel to acquire such a title , even then not just anyone can make that journey , why do europeans think they can just steal our ways ? you got your own traditions and own magical ways , celts for instance have druids and wise women , wise men , gifted beings born to travel the dimensions , when someone says they are a shaman they are not , its a title given by others to them and usually only after years of serving a person who is trained , there are things you do not understand rules and protections you have to forge yourself , most of the people that call themselves shaman have zero gift and do more harm than good , as in usa when a white man decide he was going to run a sweat lodge and people died , years of training from very very young age and then you need to have the sign you were in fact chosen , usually this means several signs , one being something wrong with the head so autism or epilepsy something of that nature , see your brain can not be normal and hold all the universe

just a guess, but maybe the ghosts and monsters are actually understood, while few know the truth of the shack, this unknown factor is what they probably fear, as many things can haunt a location, we are introduced to four that i am aware of in the series:ghouls, inferi, ghosts, and poltergeists. Technically dementors would fall into this category as well, and there are likely more creatures that haunt locations, so being haunted without knowing about what is haunting it can be terrifying to wizards and witches.

I like spiders. In fact I rescued one from the bath this evening! So I always had a bit of a soft spot for Aragog. Obviously any wild predator that size is going to be terrifying full stop, I’m not denying that, but his bond with Hagrid lasted all that time. That’s pretty remarkable for such a creature. I’d have liked more detail about Aragog and Mosag and the relationship with Hagrid

My Dad actually bred tarantulas in the house when I was small, and nowadays he just sells them. Regardless I do have the same knowledge as him regarding them for the most part. Therefore I feel confident enough to explain a few things that aren't entirely right about tarantulas in this vid. I do this only because Acromantulas are an obvious nod to them and seem to have been inspired by specific species such as Goliath Bird Eaters which are the actual biggest tarantula in mass(legspan can be roughly the size of a dinner plate on grown adults). They are also known to be black in coloration but do turn brown as their next time to molt rolls around. Tarantulas like their spider cousins(yes tarantulas are their own separate part of the arachnid family tree) have digestive enzymes in their venom. So yes they do liquefy their prey's insides. However they do not drink blood, at least not the real life counterparts of Acromantulas. Hell Goliath Bird Eater can't really do anything to humans beyond feeling like a potent bee or scorpion. That's not to say all tarantulas are completely harmless of course. Any of them could cause issues if you're allergic. But otherwise their venom doesn't usually cause issues. Sure some tarantulas can pack more heat, like Indian Ornamentals for instance(beautiful tarantulas but my Dad doesn't have any because they're known for being speedy and a bit nutty). He doesn't handle our Goliaths either, as they're known for aggression. A few extra tidbits before I quit rambling on. Tarantulas and their spider cousins also share the 'death curl'. Which is the term used to describe how their found when dead. They can do it either when upright or on their backs like Aragog was. But regardless it's characterized by the legs curling in very close and tightly to the body as they die. Forgive the morbid ass knowledge there. Also I'm gonna assume Acromantulas being bred by wizards is what gave them longevity in life, particularly mature males like Aragog. As in real life mature males in tarantulas and spiders do not usually live very long past their mature molt(the molt that happens when they mature). If the violent affair that mating usually is doesn't kill them, then they'll die by the end of the mating season or on rare occasions will have one or two more molts before kicking it. Usually by getting trapped in the molt. So Aragog living as long as he did, even with magic clearly having aided it is ASTOUNDING. I can see why even though you're not a fan, you still find them very interesting to look at. I know I enjoy watching our biggest female Goliath from time to time. She's proven to be rather intelligent for a creature everyone says is just nerves. They do in fact have brains and problem solve. Which requires brainpower thank you. I may not like their smaller cousins, spiders, but I'd be remissed if I didn't proper respect where it is due.

"Hell Goliath Bird Eater can't really do anything to humans beyond feeling like a potent bee or scorpion" yknow aside from scaring the ever living shit out of them because holy shit i just got bit by a spider the size of my dinner plate...gotta admit that would at the very least be quite startling if suddenly a dinnerplate sized spider fell and bit you (or landing or whatever idk spider cant handle falls very well.)
@UnseelieFaelass
@UnseelieFaelass Жыл бұрын
@@serenaleahy-higgins3 I meant in terms of physical health. I'm not saying they're not scary. Hell our biggest girl accidentally made a little girl cry before she passed away. Oddly enough that was the first time I'd ever seen a little girl cry at seeing a tarantula of any kind, let alone a bird eater. I speak from my own experiences. And yes being bitten by a tarantula with one inch fangs would be frightening. Especially for those who don't know that their venom(unless you're allergic to arachnids), really can't kill you. At most you'll be in a quite a bit of pain. I'd still recommend a hospital though if mainly because of that. Finally tarantulas actually have little retractable claws like cats. Hence how they can climb stuff. Course a bird eater would prefer the ground, as it is a burrowing species. One that also lives in South America. So unless you're in one of those countries, you're safe from the world's biggest tarantula. They'd also prefer to shoot their butt hairs at you instead of biting outright. Not that it's wise to handle them anyway, they're still usually quite grumpy.
@Mr.EmeraldTheGreen
@Mr.EmeraldTheGreen Жыл бұрын
Thank you thank you thank you!!! 🙏🙏🙏 I’ve never owned a tarantula, but I do watch a lot of videos here on KZbin about them, from breeders and hobbyists. I was just commenting on another comment thread that I grew up way way out in the sticks, very rural surrounded by fields and more fields and yet more fields. All kinds of spiders were EVERYWHERE! Wolf spiders, tunnel web spiders, and Black Widows were as common as house flys. And growing up in the same house for 22 and a half years, I never got bit,,,not once!!! So I was never afraid of spiders 🕷 and I think that lent itself to my total fascination of spiders 🕷. Now just to be clear, I don’t want them crawling on me, and I don’t want to share my bed with them, but I still find them endlessly fascinating! I was never able to keep a tarantula, mainly because my partner/husband said no, because if it somehow escaped, we had four precious kitties, and although Ive read that cats are immune to tarantula venom, I would never ever put them in any danger. EVER! I remember when I saw TCOS in the theaters in 2002, when Arogog came out of his den, 98-99% of the audience made the same scared sound, “UGHGHHAAAAA!!!” While I said aloud, “OMG SO COOL!!” I loved the whole scene with him and his children. But I wondered where his mate/wife/Queen, Mosag was. I would’ve liked very much to have met her, both in the books and the films. I was genuinely sad when Arogog died In THBP, i would’ve liked to have seen more of Arogog, I wished he had a bigger role. Also I have never liked that Charlotte is one of the only spiders in literature that is not portrayed in a negative manner. I think Charlotte and Miss Spider from James and the Giant Peach 🍑 are the only two I have been able to find. I think Arogog is kinda on the fence, he’s not outright evil, but not really played in a positive context either. But in any case thank you for your little lesson on spiders. All of which I already knew, but it was nice to have someone else portray them in a positive light 💡!

I wonder what happened to his "wife" (Mosag) though. I guess she most have formed some kind of frienship with Hagrid, too (?). Was she still alive when Aragog died? And what kind of role does the female spider (queen) play in the collony? In nature male spiders usually die before their female counterpart. Would be interesting to hear Rowlings view on that.

The spiders were attacking Hogwarts in both the books and movie. More than likely they saw it as an easy way to get get food from the dead bodies of students and death eaters. In the book they were trying to get inside the school but were struggling until Hagrid ran out into them, but in the movie you only see a few of them until there was and explosion and a giant took them out.

Just so you know animals (almost only wild animals) have instincts to fear certain things (a hare running away from nearly anything for example) so agromantulas have likely evolved to fear basilisks out of necessity

I think that centaurs should kick out Hagrid long time ago from the Dark forest because he infested it with creepy parasites. Imagine acromantulas the size of the elephants, having thousands of kids, and over the years expanding their territory.

I’ve loved spiders since I was very young. So Aragog part of the book/and movie has always been one of my favorite parts of the whole story. I would’ve liked to see more of him, and meet Mosag as well. But I’ve often wondered, Hagrid knew Acromantulas and knew that just because he was friends with Aragog, didn’t necessarily mean that Harry and Ron would be met with hospitality but the gargantuan colony. So he must have known this when he told Harry and Ron to ‘ follow the spiders’ into the forest to meet up with Aragog, so he must’ve known that Harry and Ron would be in grave danger for going to see Aragog. So I just have always wondered what Hagrid was thinking when he sent the boys and Fang into the forest. Anyways, just my two cents.........

I wonder if Aragog was banished to the Forbidden Forest, or if he was just banished from the castle grounds and he took refuge in the Forest. If the latter, it begs the question of whether the staff knew of his colony. I imagine Dumbledore did - and allowed it to continue because he knew the acromantula were innocent - but what about the other teachers, such as McGonagall and Snape?

Spiders truely are beautiful and misunderstood creatures. I have been handling random spiders i come across for years and have yet to see the scared threat postures they make. Honestly most spiders are more docile than the average cat or dog in my experience they just look a little creepy to some people.

for those who have proper arachnaphobia like myself its not as simple as thinking "it wont hurt you" ive gotten better over the years but at one point if a picture of a spider appeared in a book i couldnt touch the book and had to call someone to help me close it. It was bad. ive gotten better but still have moments when i will shriek like if i ever run into a spider or one pops up in my face ill start uncontrollably screamiing. i had the police called once. the cops found it very funny i was fucking traumatized lmao. But please understand for some poeple its not as simple as "they wont hurt you"

I know this is an old comment but basically So, why do they curl up and die? It’s simple. When they die, there is no more hydraulic pressure to extend their legs. The flexor muscles revert back to their original length and this is why the spider legs curl up. So naturally they dry out and their bodies being exoceltons it's just a shell, when spiders mault you have the body of a spider with it's fangs to and can depending on certain factors can regrow lost limbs, It's pretty fascinating but I understand why people don't like them.
