It's amazing to think those bikes with such little engines revving their hearts out are capable of long haul travel. Great stuff Nathan. I'm enjoying your books very much. Thankyou:)

Having spent a season as a tour guide riding in the bush on drz400 s I can appreciate the magnitude of that aboard a small machine. Good sense of achievement well done travellers some proper memories made there!

I watched this (in bed!) before you turned on the comments. At first I thought I’d do as you said, and flick though it for the high spots. Then as I watched it was too good to do that, so I thought I’d watch to half way then get up. I watched it all through. Well, COVID-19 means I don’t have to rush! Sure the footage is “raw”, but it’s an epic journey on amazing machines. Well done everyone! And thanks Nathan for a great watch. Les

Half way you said one was injured and one left- how did you get the logistics of that? Getting the postie back to base, People back home? I hope the injury wasn’t bad. Why were the flies so bad everywhere? Where there any suggestions on how the injuries could have been avoided? I would have thought the slower speeds would have been less chance of injury.

Two injuries. Broken arm at the end of of week one. Fractured lower leg 3 days from the end. One rider had fatigue and spent a few days in the van in the middle of the trip. The guy who broke his arm his bike was abandoned at a small village at the end of the Strzelecki track. The guy with the leg, his bike was carried in the back of the van whilst he went off in an air ambulance to Perth. I guess both accidents were avoidlable, but at the same time they were just accidents and so hard to completely mitigate against. Deep sand. Tough riding. Riders crash. It's innevitable. They just got unlucky. Two riders from another group died on the same road a few weeks after us, so we considered ourselves lucky. I believe we were as prepared as possible and it was unfortunate that they still sustained injury. Satelite phone was invaluable. Small bikes make for less severe impact but impacts still hurt. Crash out there doing 60mph on a big bike and you are likely to have serious injuries. It's a very unforgiving enviornment.

nathanthepostman accidents always happen for sure. I used to play roller derby. When I broke my leg, I was surprised how many ankle breaks were from stepping off curbs and buses. It is good to let people see that adventures are not danger free. But you still didn’t answer why there were so many flies- that alone would be the #1 reason for me not to go.

OMG, I'm up for a challenge but really that DOES beg the question, Why? It's a great achievement, and I'm sure everybody will be rightly proud to have done it, but to ride endless straight dirt roads for day after day must have been as boring as hell, other than the amazing vastness of the space. It's a long way down my 'to do' list but thanks for putting it there.
