Gwen sure had a huge role in the second movie. She really didn’t want to lose another friend or her father’s love for her after she lost her Peter Parker. Her introduction scene in the movie was just emotional.

looking past Gwen lying to him theres not a chance she thought of him just as a friend, I know people hate pairing the two, you dont miss a friend has hard as Gwen missed Miles, the picture she has of Miles and herself? she had that picture developed and put next to her Spider Suit, I wouldn't be surprised if she hadnt fallen for him already since they met in Class, not to mention how protective and affectionate she got with him during the second movie, HELL she got Jealous of him when she saw him talk to Spider-byte, and if they were just friends she wouldn't promise his parents that she would bring their son back, if you want a more solid, concrete evidence that she fell for him is when she's talking to her dad and she basically goes "I can't even protect the people that I love," who do you think she means? her dad? sure? but she meant Mile's. There's a small snippet in the opening of Gwen falling into the collider to go home and you can see her puckering up her lips, she wants to kiss him. The year that she hadn't seen Miles her feelings for him grew, they became stronger, and it became unbearable for her

It felt more like a huge choral movie, where we go from one character to another, while in the first film we most of the time follow miles point of view, here we follow both Miles and Gwen's

Our family has been Spider-Man fans since the 70's. For whatever reason, we all liked Gwen better than Mary Jane. Mary Jane is a great girl too no doubt (she was happy to be around Peter can't ask for more than that). So, to see Gwen back was a pretty big deal.
