Jamal , I came back from work and I was ready for the next hike with you. It was excellent hike. You are the richest man, you are one of a few who has seen amazing places. Burr Trail is one of them. You mentioned in the video that you could not find the route to short cut part of lower Boulder Creek. Follow the sandy wash straight east which is near where you go down to Boulder. Then Climb up to the saddle, then turn south and follow the wash down to Boulder. To get to Creek, go back a few feet and climb up on the sandstone to the east and work toward the last chute down This chute leads down to the creek level. I discover this route by accident by looking at topo maps and thinking it might be a possible route down and sometimes things work,

Heya! Thanks for commenting and so cool you found that route. I did later find out what went wrong on my trip. The route I was thinking of was from Steve Allen's guide. I was actually in the right spot, but w/o proper notes I didn't have confidence that I was and thus evidently didn't investigate enough. He also notes another route farther south which requires rounding a knoll and then going down a gulch -- this sounds like what you might have done. Noting a few alternate THd's on your main interactive map- this may be one I could take my hound with me for a backpack. I mean parts of it, The washes- no slots of course . Nice sites down by the river. Was out on the Burr Trail down by pet wood areas a while ago. Yes, the area up top of Choprock looks familiar- the Circles Cliffs. This is a winner! Great ref points- and even some cool hiking available if truck camping. thanks- I recognize the red mini fans under those Circle Cliffs. I am a canister dude too myself- a Markley I've used for years, at least you can adjust flame- use others too. Enjoyed this one- the ending overlook must be back out by the end of the Burr Trail- oh, and what you were saying holds true- hike every day if you can.

Fantastic video .. again. Your hikes are my dreams. Traveling the parks since 1989 I always dreamed about the things you are doing. But first I was unexperienced and then I was a family-traveller. So there was never time or chances to experience what you did. The silence, the freedom, the feeling to get back to the basics. A hike to Zion's Observation Point and to the Great Gallery were the greatest 'adventures' I've had (Don't laugh). Beside that it was mainly the 'view points'. As a fan of pictographs, petroglyphs and ruins I'm always like paralyzed when you 'stumble upon' panels I've always dreamed of or some which I've never heard of. Jamal, I wish you all the best and I hope you continue your work here on KZbin and on your site. Greetings from Germany.

Another great hike. I love watching your adventures and seeing your beautiful pictures!! Especially Zebra Slot. Even if your maps get wet & ruined in freezing cold water that you had to walk in, you don't need them. You know Escalante & Capital Reef National Park by heart from all your previous hikes!

Love your videos Jamal, I subscribed around the flood video I think. I'm in Idaho and really wanna get over that way and enjoy some of that. I hike in a wheelchair but my shoulders have paid the price so I have to change my goals to more seek and chill and enjoy the view outings. Got a van to camp in and sure there's tons of places to cruise into those areas pretty well, anyway, thanks for the beautiful, fun, and real deal videos man, Peace. John from Idaho :)

I love the birdsongs and frogsongs in this video! The sounds are so wonderful, when you're away from machines for a while. Those big undercuts - those would have been formed by floods? Not a good place to camp?

Very much enjoyed this video. What a cool loop. I didn't realize that Big Horn Canyon was a thing. Now I want to make a loop through that, down Harris, up Choprock and back. Assuming that it's possible. I've been through Harris before, just a couple weeks after the massive flash flood came through and reeked havoc on the canyon in 2013. Either way, thanks for helping inspire a much needed trip in the desert. Look forward to more videos Jamal!

At 23:52 when in Long Canyon you had a still photo of you standing on a rock with hiking poles in the air. Was that the entry to Singing Canyon where your voice echoes? If so, I was just there a week ago and recognized similar terrain. It is right along the Burr Trail at about 11 miles from Boulder

Thank you for the inspiration here Jamal! I really enjoyed the narration and other production values as your video brought back some fond memories of LMT Canyon. Looks like you were able to pull off this route without caching water and/or food? After a couple of short overnight adventures in this area last October, Capitol Reef NP might be my new favorite backpacking spot. Hope your ankle heals up nicely and I will be sure to keep an eye on your channel.

Yes -- I did this one w/o a cache. At 9-days long it was right at my max carry. Water wasn't too much of an issue on this trip, but would be later in the season. Thanks for watching and the comment!

It rained the first few days i was there. It cleared up though. Some of the BLM roads were a little too muddy. Was in a rental so I didnt get to see everything I wanted to see

Is this the Big Horn Slot that is just off the Hole in The Rock Road out of Escalante? If so, we had a guided hike through it just last Sept by an outfitter out of Escalante. Very neat slot that most people just drive by as they head down the road to other slot canyons and Devils Garden.

Yep -- that's the one. 👍 There are a few different forks to it and yes it can be done as a day hike from either the bottom (via HITR Road) or the top (Sheffield Road). It's a pretty great area and just hard enough to get to that not many people venture out to check it out. Cheers! ✌

Thats 17 miles a day for 9 days. Dang that is a lot of moving. I've been wanting to do the highline trail over 7 days averaging 10 miles per day, so I have time to fish & side explore. Not too much really -- besides "exercise" hikes at Fryman or Runyon Cyns. I've done some hiking in the San Gabriels, but usually tend to head up to the Sierras when I have a little extra time or Utah of course if I have 5+ days.

Very cool video of your hike--as always! Having had knee surgeries and severe ankle sprains myself, I couldn't agree more with your post-hike reflection and the need to stay active. If you don't mind my asking, what do you use to film your videos (camera + support) and later edit them? I'm hiking the JMT starting at Horseshoe meadows, and I still have to figure our how I'm going to capture some memories (I do own a Canon S120). Cheers!

Thanks. This is my 2nd trip with a Sony NEX-5 as my main camera. I also use a pocket camera for extra shots. I have a small "Zip" tripod and solar charger for longer trips (just used extra batteries for this one.) Good luck on the JMT.

Yeah --- my boots take a beating. I usually only get about 250 miles per pair. I've experimented with both high-end and with cheap brands and it doesn't seem to matter -- Utah just tears them up (especially on water hikes.) I'm impartial to North Face boots, but this time out I had a pair of Hi-Tecs and they worked OK.

Thx! The pack is heavier than it looks (bulky and not compressed.) It was just over 40 pounds to start. But... that included 9 days of food and extra electronics to make this video. :)

Can you give me a recommendation of a great day-hike in Utah that might not be well known with a max dist 10-12 miles. I can go a little farther if needed. I've done Angel's landing and Observation Point as well as the main Bryce trails.

Hmmm.... for the area covered in this video, Upper Muley Twist is a great day hike. It is fairly well known, but never feels crowded to me. The loop down Big Horn and up Zebra is really good too if you like slickrock and slot canyons. It would be a long day and definitely not recommended in the heat of summer though.

Not sure why but your videos play out like a page-turner murder mystery. 30 minutes feels like nothing. Some other vids two minutes in and I'm bored to death. Good commentary, good editing, minimal blaring music, and great scenery means you make highly enjoyable videos, particularly welcome on Coronavirus lockdown.
