I think this might be one of my favorite color palettes. Maybe a little dark but I still love it

Hi Will: a fan and an artist here. If I could offer a bit of advice with what you're doing: learn to use the pallet knife in varied ways; what I saw was all very long swept lines. Try using the pallet knife to make a fan shape/curve: keep your hand in one place and draw a curve of any kind by having your hand as the pivot point to sweep that circle. paint and sweep it in place as if to draw/swipe a fan. Go ahead and lay down some heavy amounts of ridges and almost sculptural stiff peaks; if you're worried about things cracking it "crazing"., add a thick acrylic medium that you like and mix so you get so good density and major areas of chunky, smooth, watery and so on. Play, play, play and think about using that pallett knife in every conceivable direction: bent left, bent right, or waves, peaks of thickness or valleys of translucency with acrylic medium and water. All the creative choices you make for a pour, will serve you well for this kind of painting. Its the same rules you know for pouring: composition, colour, design, balance with shapes and washes. Bring that to this kind of pallette painting, and you will free yourself with all of those options. This is all my art education talking now: the more you play, the more varied your knowledge and skills, just line pouring, the more free you will be for experimenting. Cheers. All said with support and a push to "get crazier". 😁👍

Holy cow this was a long and awesome post. Thank you so much for all of the input!! I love your teaching style too. Offering wisdom and leaving it up to the person on whether or not to take it... It's very disarming. Thank you very much. 😊😊😊

Good luck on the house build - hope your getting a studio in the new house. I really like this style of painting - also gets unexpected results like pouring.

Thanks Julie I can't wait till it's done. Yes I will have an art space. I'm so excited! Do you paint in this style too?
@juleejames99776 жыл бұрын
Will Black Yes - but in oils. I don’t have a safe drying space right now (grandsons everywhere) so I’m sticking to fast drying acrylics.

Watching you paint is like watching a suspense movie (good thing). I could see a village in the corner and was thing "Please, Will, don't swipe through that"...and you didn't. Whew! I know things are upside down for me. Love your experiments.

Merci je pense: D Google traduit seulement une partie traduite de votre commentaire. Je ne suis pas encore très doué en peinture au couteau, mais je suis heureux de ne pas être terrible. HAHA

At the point where you reapplied the black and white, you could have covered the painting with cling wrap and tapped it down then twisted it and left it to dry and then pull the cling wrap off, something quite interesting may have happened. Cheers!
