Bless your heart for making a video that starts with the "how to and what to" in mixing your paints. Thank you. I went at it full boar and made 7 blah paintings and 2 just ok paintings. I had alot of fun but was disappointed in the end. So now I'm off to the store with high hopes again, so thank you!

This is the first beginners pour that I've watched and I've watched a lot of more advanced. This is definitely in my top 3 of the prettiest ones I've seen! All three are very different and I really love all of them the same, but for different reasons. I find myself tipping my phone (I hope it helped 😉). This is an excellent video! I love that you talked us through every step-telling us what you were doing, what you were using, and why you were using it! Don't learn to edit! It's so nice knowing that you weren't editing things out. I wish I could do something like this but due to severe RA in my hands (& there rest of me too) I can't do things that I've known how to do my whole life, let alone trying something new. I'll just keep watching and admiring others work! Great video, thank you!

I've watched numerous videos today. You are the only one who explained the heart & silicone. The way my brain works, literally, I need to hear such details so that I can fully absorb instructions & choose actions that will lead to more success sooner. Such details/info facilitates correct or better choices, because I more completely understand the process (what happens & why). Thank you.

Thank you especially for teaching me the right amount of pouring medium and paint. The other videos I watched all were very rigid about the measurements, like 1 third this, two thirds that, but you told me how the paint should behave and what it should look like, so I just added as much as I needed to get the needed result. That helped me a lot.

Thanks for sharing . I do the same thing I buy a cheap gallon of white and black of house paint cause those are the 2 colors you will most likely use the most and on the floetrol I only get it from Lowe's cause it's only 14 dollars anywhere else I have looked the cheapest was 26 on up to 30 something dollars and I mix 1 gallon of floetrol with 1 gallon of white and black house paint so I actually get 2 gallons of paint . I absolutely love the colors you chose can I ask each time you do a painting how do you figure out what colors to choose thank you so much

MISSY gold I'd love to know this as well. Also, when you say house paint, do you mean like any kind of paint I have used on my walls? I ask because I've heard you have to use acrylic house paint, but all my paint says latex???
@missygold9315
@missygold9315 6 жыл бұрын
Kelly Aylor-Jarrell yes Hun latex and acrylic are one in the same any kind of house paint indoor / outdoor long as it says latex on it alot of times I'll buy the mistinted paints if I like the color u can get a gallon for anywhere from a dollar to 15 and it's already tinted to a color you like so just have to add your floetrol I buy house paints at yard sales if they have colors I like for like a dollar or 2 but just make sure to ask the owner to open them up so you can be sure there not all dried out you know hope that helps you out you can find me on Facebook under missy Gold

It is trial and error. You do them often enough and you learn how much to make. You can also cover the canvas in white paint first and then pour the colors. I would suggest that you use primary color first like red, blue, and yellow.

I had to laugh, I bought that exact bag of plastic cups over the weekend because I didn't like using the shot glass sized red cups, & they cost more. Your commentary is too cute. I just started paint pouring about a month ago, and anything I don't like, I wait until it's dry & just start over! My biggest problem is that I have a tiny yard, so I'm making a BIG mess in the garage because I didn't have a drop cloth when I decided to start painting. I'm now using an old blanket & my husband's construction sawhorse - he is being very accommodating but I got reprimanded for a few drips he found on his new truck. Oops. I've been using coconut hair oil to create cells, it works great. I bought it to use on my hair & it didn't work well but I hadn't thrown it away, I saw it on a KZbin video & remembered I still had it. 😉 Thanks for the tutorial, I enjoyed it. I'm still seriously a beginner & I've done 23 canvases after doing 15 wood circle pieces that now hang in my garden and brighten the yard. You can always start small, right? 😊

I'm not getting the beautiful cells like you have yet, but I'm watching the videos, & practicing every chance I get.I think one of my problems is that I'm not using enough paint & when I tilt I end up tilting too much, so need to remedy that! Thanks so much for the info.!

Thanks you SO MUCH for explaining the difference in products (I went & checked prices on some of the medium and paint you mentioned and yeah...expensive buy-in to start. Left without them and was kinda bummed) NOW I know how to make my own (tons of shades of acrylics already - the cheap craft kind!) So my initial investment is going to minimal! So excited to be able to try this with the 14yr old baby boy currently locked in with mom and 100% OVER IT! HE is going to do an original for his newly redone bedroom in UNC colors,( the quarantine boredom struggle is REAL I tell you! Lol!) I hope it inspires his creative side and gives us a hobby to do occasionally TOGETHER🤯! THANK YOU for your concise instruction with options for each step and what each item does for the process. You truly took the mystery out of the entire process so it CAN be fun! Idk what you did/do for a living but I certainly would have loved to have you as a teacher! Your so down to earth I felt like I was just listening to a friend explaining things, as opposed to many videos that seem....pretentious. DUCK TAPE HANDLES: Here is a Paul Shepherd handling technique: Take a strip of duck tape. Pinch it together in the middle. Stick the remaining two loose ends to the back of your canvas board or piece to be painted. The pinched together part makes a handle to grip and hold your work with while you do your tilting of the piece. 4 handles on a larger piece. When your work is dried just peel the duck tape off. With this you can tilt in any direction while keeping your hands away from the running paint.

I think the number one question for beginners is...how much paint do I put in the cup and how much Floetrol should I add to it. You skimmed right over this very important step. I don’t want to be critical but if you’re going to do a video for beginners at least have some basic information for them like measurements. Perhaps you could’ve measured the ingredients just to give people a starting point then as they practice they can adjust the different ingredients the way they like it. Just an idea 😁 I was always so frustrated because when I started nobody was really giving a straight answer. I threw away a ton of mess ups. Thank you for sharing your time with us Cecilia.

It all depends on the paint. The thinner the paint the less water and medium. The Medium helps the paint from diluting too much and loosing it's integrity. The water is to thin out more if need be. It is all trial and error.

Hi Cecilia, I have heard other acrylic pour artist make reference to distilled water, why is distilled better than tap water or filtered water?

Distilled water is pure H2O. You should always use distilled water to paint with. It's ok to clean brushes with regular water but if you are going to use a large percentage of water with your paint, it should be distilled. I learned this from a water color teacher. It helps keep the paint pure. You never know what can occur with other chemicals.
