How did u get 3 on number 1

I substituted in b=3 and g=5 at the beginning because those values make the first equation true. You can choose any numbers you like as long as they make the equations true. I then took that b=3 and substituted it into the second question to get 3+5=p or 8=p. The question wants to know what is p-g. So if p=8 and g=5, then p-g=8-5=3.
