I've always loved that Brando and eva maria saint scene. So well shot And wonderfully acted by two of Hollywood's greats. The timing of the dialogue is so natural, no one goes over the top. Very real. And at times intimate. You can see terry malloys guard dropping because he really cares about her , but still keeping the tough front up. Where have the great directors like Kazan gone ?

In his earlier films, Brando was really the character, not Brando being the character, which was good, too. Great performances by Eva Marie Saint and him. Gods, Kirk Douglas is amazing here (never saw this). Great monologue. Makes me miss New York, and I live here 😃😋 Kim Novak and the one and only Jimmy Stewart - my gosh!!!! Another beauty who is quite the actress. 🌸🌱

Great scenes, all of them. But only Brando comes off as truly natural. The women, as good as they are, are hampered by that artificial “mid-Atlantic” accent that Hollywood dialog coaches taught them. (So named because it’s halfway between an American and British accent.) Rob Reiner recently said that he believes Brando’s performance in “On the Waterfront” remains the finest film acting of all time. I agree. The scene in the taxi cab with his brother (played brilliantly by Rod Steiger) is also amazing. And it was almost entirely improvised by Brando. Helia Kazan wanted it to play be played in a much more melodramatic Way.

I agree. The scene with Rod Steiger is one of the best in film history

Brando ... amazing ... you - concentrated - when you watched him. Douglas over-acted. Little subtlety. But he was an intelligent performer. The script was good. The director was the best.
