Thank you! I'm not interested in acting, but I'm working on emotional expression in dancing and the blinking tip was such a help! I realised when I blink constantly while dancing I look sloppy and tired, and with less blinking I look more present!
@AugmentedActor3 жыл бұрын
That's a great application of the advice. These tips can help with any type of performing or public speaking. Blinking is just one of the habits some people have. There are other ticks and things people do with their body that they don't realize until they see themselves on tape. Like have you ever watched the hands of a beginning tap dancer? How they tend to tense up their hands and fingers while they are learning tap steps? Once you are aware of the habit, you can start to take steps to minimize it and control it.

The blinking and nervous tics tips were very helpful! Thanks! I've never acted before but I'm trying to make a tiny short film to show appreciation for a fandom I'm in. This is beyond my comfort zone for sure, but I'm having fun so far simply because I want to give my best to the fandom I'm a part of!! I also liked the advice of tapping oneself to catch blinking and tics. I'll have to try that!
@AugmentedActor4 жыл бұрын
It helps to tape yourself for lots of reasons. It gives you practice in front of the camera. And just remember, whether you're an actor or not, you are often performing for others in various ways, so you can always benefit from practicing your acting skills. Thanks for watching and commenting!

It's hard to keep my eyes open long w/o them watering, but I will work on it. Great points in the video.
@AugmentedActor Жыл бұрын
First, it's ok to blink just try to control the frequency as best you can when doing a take. Or blink between your lines if possible (but don't worry too much about it. Humans blink.) Second, the fact that your eyes water easily is actually a great thing for when you need to cry on command. A technique that many actors use to cry is to force their eyes to stay open until the tears come down. So it's a good thing. I can keep my eyes open for a long time and don't get any tears.

And then just remember how it felt. Here are the links to the videos: The first three videos will help you learn how to act certain emotions. The fourth video is full of examples of 128 different emotions. Acting: Don't do anything any person would naturally do so people believe it.
@AugmentedActor3 жыл бұрын
Ironically, that's pretty true. I would say it's more that you need to learn how to control all the things people do naturally so that you can choose to do or not do them intentionally in order to better tell the story you are trying to tell.

How can we practice For blinking ?
@AugmentedActor2 ай бұрын
It’s best to just be aware if you are blinking and try to think about it while you are acting. It helps to practice in front of a camera so you can watch it after. It also helps to put some bright lights in your face while practicing so you can get used to the conditions of being on set. And also just focus on connecting and making eye contact with your scene partner. A lot of blinking is just a nervous habit.
@shivakamikayimal36716 ай бұрын
Hi sir, i have this same issue with my eyes . It do blinks many times while delivering my dialogue. How to control this?
@AugmentedActor6 ай бұрын
Being aware of the habit is a good start to controlling it. It just takes practice and reminding yourself to concentrate on not blinking each time you perform. It usually happens because of nervousness so if you learn how to control your nervousness it will help you if it’s because of bright lights, then you need to stand in place and let your eyes adjust to the lighting before you perform. If it’s because you are shy about looking at another actor’s eyes then you need to practice connecting with the other actor by looking at them when you talk to them.

Is it good idea to gaze candle ??
@AugmentedActor4 жыл бұрын
I don’t think you can do any damage to your eyes to gaze at a candle. I’ve heard it’s a form of meditation. Don’t know if it will help you as an actor. And obviously you want to be careful not to get too close to the flame and stop if it hurts.

Im an actor but when we had this play and I got a role (had no choice) I had problems conveying emotions with my eyes, the voice is there but my eyes just wont follow :< idk what to do haha
@AugmentedActor3 жыл бұрын
The eyes and emotions work when you believe what you are performing. Maybe the fact that you didn’t have a choice to do the play made you not fully committed to the moments you were portraying? It also takes practice to be able to convincingly portray emotions and there are many reasons why your eyes might not be doing what you want them to. Kinda hard to figure out what to suggest without actually seeing you perform. But at least you know what you need to work on next time.

@AugmentedActor3 жыл бұрын
If it is sustained for a long period of time in a shot, perhaps. But in film there are usually a lot of edits so you don’t notice as much. And blinking is a natural thing for humans to do. So some blinking is appropriate. But just try not to blink during crucial moments. Also not blinking for long periods of time can also be intense, loving, sedated and several other things besides creepy. ;-)
