So today's video is about the topic of action figure articulation. It's just a muddled sit down where I share my thoughts and ideas on this often very touchy topic.
Yep I needed to shave I know. Didn't have any new razors and we all know what it feels like to shave with an old razor, right? Like scrapping the whiskers off with a rough rock.

i want both articulated and good sculpt and nowadays is possibly get both sides, the people that don´t like the articulations they have statues for leave them in the shelves and look at it, i like look at it and take pics in a diorama fighting together in as real way as possible.

If people don’t care about articulation, why don’t you just buy statues?!!.. simple,, Shelfers should buy statues and Posers buy figures ... Action figures are meant to be played with and posed in “action” poses..

I loved the Dc collectibles new 52 figures, yes the articulation was crap but the figures looked great and i loved the 7 inch size.

I prefer a good sculpt over articulation. My DC Direct figures can be in my living room and look cool. Do you think anyone would put a marvel legend as a display there? ml are more kid toys... the colors are too glossy... ugh

Some of the more recent live-action show/movie based ML figures look nothing like kids toys, I think lately they've very much upped their game. The Black Panther solo film figures for instance are stunningly cool in terms of realistic sculpt & paint-work. The Netflix series figures as well, not at all glossy.

Carnola Sluggs yeah but to be fair, nobody knows black panther (pop culture wise) and the wave and baf was weak. About the netflix figures, Daredevil was nice, Punisher awful and Elektra like somebody from Mortal Kombat, I gladly prefer a traditional Punisher with street clothes and comic Elektra.

I'm not sure what popularity of the figure has to do with how well ML produced them. It wasn't a Hot Toys quality release but I quite dug the Punisher figure. The design the show chose for Elektra's costume aside, it's a perfectly reasonable release with a really stellar head sculpt. About the Panther wave I thought all the figures related to the movie were fantastically produced & I'm totally happy with the Okoye BAF, I only wish ML released more characters as it's a phenomenal cast who've all got gorgeous costume designs.

Carnola Sluggs The thing is, what about your showing the Panther figure to your friends. If they're not comic fans, probably don't recognize who is it and you better show them somebody popular to impress them. The figure is probably good but not the one for hook up someone to collect marvel legends. I mean, if hasbro put the same effort when doing for 12th time an Iron Man or Cap... And almost forget, really hate that drunky face punisher with bed hair haha.

Head on a ball hinge, double jointed elbows and knees, decent ab crunch and waste swivel, bicep swivel, ANKLE PIVOT, you can have all these things and still make great looking figures. I see people saying these break it up too much but companies have really figured out all of those things and making great sculpts so I personally don't see any excuse and it's why I don't buy too many multiverse figures, though I really want that clayface and king shark

Off the top of my head, i think the new Mafex figures have the best approach to articulation. It really works with the sculpt. You can tell when figures are designed with articulation in mind vs figures designed with articulation as an after thought (McFarlane.) I personally always prefer a figure with more articulation, even though i rarely take them out of the box or pose them. I will say this. Though flawed in execution. The DC Icons line had a lot of potential. Their issue was range of motion.

Great conversation, I wonder if there’s a scale here because I’m a shelfer but inch towards poser on some figures. I do though value sculpt/design over articulation, but still feel there needs to be a balance. I tend to take it case by case, where high articulation on say Spider Man makes all the sense to me and I don’t mind a sculpt with that in mind, but if I’m looking at a Superman, or a Joker I don’t need crazy moves, or ugly cuts and compromises to the sculpt - but to your point, if Superman’s head can’t look up that’s just not smart. So I guess I’d rather have smart articulation as opposed to high articulation.

I don't demand Marvel Legends give us toe or finger articulation anymore (the ankle pivot & alternate posed hands suffice far better ultimately) but when it's a character like Black Panther or Wolverine, that butterfly joint option is VERY much appreciated. Just depends on how the specific comic hero/villain is most memorably known for having looked in their source material.
@BhmnRhpsdy99

I think the toe articulation is needed only on characters that you see constantly see them running or crawling. Spiderman needs toe articulation.
@carnolasluggs5417

Yeah definitely agree, toe articulation is appreciated when it's a character who's usually known for being drawn in wildly dynamic poses.

I'm kinda inbetween. I buy lot of lines with less articulation because I'm mostly a strict 3 3/4 inch collector. If a 3 3/4 inch line exists for a franchise I love, I will invest in it if I like it. I only really ask for enough articulation to do what is appropriate for the character, and Superman is kind of a weird spot in that regard. You see, the 2014 Multiverse Christopher Reeve Superman is a pretty nice figure for the most part, but he can't look up or swivel his biceps, which is a big deal on a Superman figure. However, in 2010, they put out some DCIH figures which DID have swivel biceps for Superman, so they CAN engineer it easily. Additionally, I got some old Superman Returns figures in today(Superman's a scale exception), and they can look up via a double ball-peg. The Multiverse CR Superman has the same system in place, but the sculpting makes it so that he can only swivel his head from side to side. My big point is that Mattel COULD do those points, but CHOSE not to,
@YourUncleBenis
@YourUncleBenis 6 жыл бұрын
...Which is basically the same thing the ankle rocker folks are thinking about. Heck, I could engineer an ankle rocker in 2 minutes, and I don't even work in the industry. Of course, Mattel seems to be pretty behind the times on anything adult collector related, so these things don't occur to them.

the problem with dc icons why they are dead now is because they are too small if you want a cross over with marvel legends and dcuc, however, there is one good thing, now i can pose my big barda (dcuc) next to my mr miracle (icons) and they look awesome together XD, and the bad thing is i still need to find a good size wonder woman with golden armor that can fit with my dc icons 7 pack rebirth :( is there any good size wonder woman gold armor that can fit with dc icons rebirth ? XD

I'm definitely a shelfer and I do keep 80% of my action figures in package. Whenever I do want to pose them, it's usually in a very intricate position so I would really love to see DC Multiverse step up their game, but I still would prefer to buy DC figures over Marvel due to my biased love for those characters.

@3:17 just 2 or 3 pics, play around with posing them, man. Once you get that sweet pose that looks like you capture a snap shot of them about to go into action - you'll be hooked.

I like both marvel legends and just a few dc figures, both have pros and cons, but if you want to be honest Marvel's details and bad blow dc figures and bafs away, ex. Doomsday bad is pretty fucking shitty. Doomsday is one of my favorite villains and they didn't even try to do the bad justice at all

IMO Most articulated: revoltech, but ugly sculpt Awesome sculpt: old mcfarlane spawn, but super limited articulation. Overall best sculpt + articulation: marvel legends, but could do soooo much better.

Sometimes I prefer a great sculpt over articulation. But...in that case, I can just buy a statue. I was never been a fan of TOY BIZ Marvel figures. They were good for their time, now they all looks ugly. I just kept some of the BAFs and sold the rest. However, new "Hasbro Marvel Legends" looks great. For example, look at Classic Namor from latest Black Panther Wave. He is damn perfect and looks proportional. I wich we had good long-lived DC line of figures in 6 inch, that has all this modern sculpt and articulation.

The answer to your question is in the video ;-) Some people just like to leave them on a shelf in the basic upright position. I agree though that a goodly amount of articulation is usually better.
