Feb. 2018----Thanks for the how to video and phone booth looks great. Not into action figures and in late 2016 after 15 years, decided to get back into modeling. But going for 1/35th scale zombie/apocalypse dioramas after finding out so many others are dong the same, along with many thousands of drawings/paintings of damaged cities/ homes, survivors, etc. Right now, think I've got something like 15K or more stored on a thumb drive, plus several dozen how to KZbin videos. The ONE thing I want in all my dioramas is REALISM. NO Mad Max lookin' vehicles, women with a lot of t&a showing. Phone booths are pretty much a thing of the past (I'm 64) and yeah, remember seeing them on every street corner and thought they were pretty much extinct at least out here in the west. Even trying to find one of those no booth smaller ones is hard a times. I've never seen a phone booth like yours and wondered if it was a figment of your imagination so went back to Google for images and after some searching, did find those kind of like yours. The images I have don't have doors and are open at the bottom. The regular kind of phone booth (where Clark would change into his Superman costume) have accordion type doors. Apparently your kind of phone booth (sans door & open at the bottom) are used in at least Chicago and have photos of where 4 of them would be joined as one unit. It's due to the efforts of people like and your action figure dioramas/how too's along with the doll house, plastic modelers, railroaders and diecast car collectors that not only keep my modeling enthusiasm up, but learning how to do things differently. Thanks again.

Cheers Mate!! Sometimes the stuff I make is a mash up of different references, either for originality or functionality purposes. I also like watching and learning from other artists that do semi-similar but different hobbies (miniature painters, Railroaders, etc.). Thanks for watching!!

Really great phone booth - you should have made a mold of your phone receiver once you made it the right size then you could have made more regular telephones and phone booth phones to share with your nartist friends!! :D Why did you paint everything black then white instead of just painting everything white? I loved the tip for the windows edging them white to bring out the cracks. And I love the end shots with the guy in the booth at the end. I like that you made it wider - hey, you have to adjust real life for miniatures!

Thanks.. I always black wash everything, especially with wood. The more paint layers the less wood grain you see and a little more protection.

StarCat64 I was thinking about taking on commissions for custom props. But the phone booth would be a little tuff. I would need to find another phone for the pay phone, and I'd be a little scared to ship it.

Try using Mod Podge mixed with your base color to help get rid of wood grain. 60% or more Mod Podge, use only enough paint to make it easy to see where you've applied it. 2 to 3 coats should do it. Apply the first coat with a wet brush and let it dry for a couple of hours then use a dry brush for the next layer(s) so it's thicker. It will help hide the grain and also harden the balsa a bit so it's less fragile.
