@@robbiefishing I KNOW it happens cos I have spoken to a few people over the years around Melb here, that fish the lakes in the outer fringes, & they told me they used to BUY small cod from the breeders, like 30cm specimens, build them up to about double in a big tank, then release them into their local lake that have redfin, carp, yabbies etc in them so there is plenty of food for them, in the hope it will grow even BIGGER in the 'wild' !

Thanks Al. You can mate, I have done it a number of times, but it's not common. Some people target carp with flies and soft plastics, but they're dedicated. Haha I have caught them on soft plastics, spinners and even spinnerbaits over the years, but it is very uncommon. I would never intentionally target them with lures.

Thanks Bruce. Haha No they don't hitchhike. LOL They most likely escape from waterways such as farm dams and seasonal creeks during floods. Pretty quickly they multiply and grow. The redfin may have been put in there by people but I'd say the carp have made their own way in during floods.

But I will not kill a something that is supplying fry and fish for our cod, bass, silver perch, spangled perch and golden perch to feed on. Red fin are not like carp. I’m in nsw central coast and some one is letting carp go up here also. I’ve been going 1st a week and pulling them out. Getting 80-120 carp and setting 20 shrimp trap also why I’ve been fishing to try and get rid of them. Our waters are much warmer then yours so they breed like cockroaches

I’m thinking of putting cod in the System to help with the numbers. I have a fish room I was supplying Australia with exotic fish, put I’ve got rid of everything now so I have 45 5-6 foot tanks doing nothing and 8 400lts and 4 1,000lts and 3 2,000lts ponds doing nothing

In nsw we’re I am we only have bass and silver perch. But there is not many silver perch here now. My biggest bass is 59cm and my biggest silver is 59cm. But that was a long time ago. Now your lucky to catch a 45 bass and a 40cm silver. Because or carp. And every time I go to get the carp out of the system. Everyone starts on me. And calls the police on me. 🙄
