I think this story really flash out how dreadful revenge can be. First, it gives you cruelty and injustice against the MC, at the point you feel yourself wanting revenge. Then, the author masterfully gives you just that, having Raul act as your proxy. And you realize how far that hate can go, and the emptiness that leaves behind. All the people there deserve it, you know it, but it's still a "bit too far" kinda feeling. Not many revenge/anti hero story hits hard like this one imo.

@@Botar48 not really. Those kind of stories were always popular, as much as the regular journey's hero, this one is just cranked to the max. But doesn't mean that people will start going crazy because of reading it. For example, there are many characters that the writer want you to know they are dead and suffered Injust abuse, like the MC family. And the MC have powers compared to God, but even with that and the revenge following, he can't bring them back. Even after the tortures, while he descend more in madness, you can't feel fulfillment from it, just emptiness. Usually anti-hero/revenge stories are much more "reasonable" and makes you cheer for the underdog, but here revenge is the main player and the MC show you how ugly can become. Of course people like Matt Walsh thinks that all the manga are evil, but I can assure you is not even close to what "normal" humans can be even without reading any of that.

I have mixed feelings about that manga title because...well, these antagonists had to coming for messing the wrong guy who really doesn't take deceit and betrayal so easily. _Everybody_ (sans the victims) single one of them is the jerk in the series, including the citizens who are extremely blood-lusted to see justice fell upon the "condemned". Like, as much as wicked these antagonists whose actions are so atrocious that you almost wish that they will suffer a fate worst than death, the city citizens aren't exactly innocent either. Small wonder why Raul the MC going to a dark that not even the devil dare to cross. The one moment these sadistic jerks destroyed the only thing that mattered to him and made a mockery about it, you can bet that he ain't stopping his retribution on these buffoons.

There is actually a reason for why everyone is so absolutely evil. It's a big spoiler but, well, the Saintess Clarissa used her holy power in a messed up way that basically removed their inhibition and amplified their sinful ways to 11, thinking this is what the goddess wanted by spreading her love and bringing other people salvation, that when she died she would save take everyone's sins with her and let them access heaven. Turns out she was completely delusional and basically became the Who** of Babylon (if you know that biblical character) and brought damnation to everyone she used her power on. That flesh eating man? She basically commanded him to indulge as much as he wanted and go live his most intimate desires. The best friend the Archmage? She told him to pursue his dream and do as he wished and betray the Hero if he so wished. It's also revealed she loved to have blood orgies with soldiers and let their lust completely loose, thinking people having sex with her would bring them salvation. Nearly every character in the story have been corrupted by her, and every others have been corrupted by the decadence brought around them. Some of them clearly weren't corrupted by her like the villagers of bandits, or the slave master guy, but a great majority of the absolute decadence was amplified by the Saintess.

I could suggest: "Failure Frame" and "The Hero Laughs While Walking the Path of Vengeance a Second Time". Both are Revenge Stories but the mc doesn't go berserk like Kearu does. They only focus on the people who did betray them. Though, both stories have different approaches on the revenge matter. "The Hero Laughs " is more similar to Redo of Healer, with the difference that he despises raping and don't hurt any innocent people. Also while his abilities are not heal powers, they make at least sense. What I also like about this story is, that the mc isn't just 24/7 op protagonist but has to fulfill certain conditions and hard training to expand his abilities. "Failure Frame " on the other hand is rather 'calm '. Like, in the sense that the mc is polluted by his revenge but still cares about his environment. Means, he respects people who fight for the good and/or are idealistic. He is also just only focused on the people who betrayed him. Unlike " The Hero Laughs " however, he is ready to manipulate uninvolved people so that they would help him in his revenge.

So, if you're at least in half of video or even read till chapter 70+, let's just discuss a plot a lil bit. But before that, I guess the manga was either artists step back from the world or trying to create best "revenge" manga, in which he said himself in one line "The act of "revenge" stirs the heart of any living being". There's so much violence and gore, it looked like they had a kink for it. And I just can't put Raoul together with DoomGuy, Master Chief, Berserk or Pelinal. They don't bathe in pain they're creating, they went mad but not like Raoul. They promised themselves before going mad that they're gonna kill every single one of whose wronged them. And they do so effectively, not leaving any time for them to even react before they're already dead. Now about the plot, SPOILER WARNING! If you read the manga until Christinas date in Hell, you now know that basically almost everyone who was killed by Raoul was corrupted by her "holy" magic. The knight who was a cannibal? Yeah, she mind controled him to be more clear with his secret desires. Princess? She was mind controlled to be obsessed with Raoul, to the point she'd kill any of his loved one, so that he could only love her. And so on. Wendal? I mean you can't really understand his ambitions by what is shown in manga, but ultimately his betrayal is because of mind control too. So. Are the people who were mind controlled to stop resisting their internal urges are at fault? It's basically something like giving authority to mentaly ill person, or a gun to a suicider/murderer. Even the most pure and calm person has the urge to stop being like that. But then, guess what? She was BLESSED with that power. By some DEITY, God. I guess if she wasn't so stupid she'd realise that anything she did was creating more and more pain and sins in the world. But I guess she didn't pass INT check when reading the Bible. SO if that fucking God, and there are multiple of them in this world. If that wicked God didn't enchant Christiana everything wouldn't go SO WRONG in their world. So who can that Goddess be? Is it God of Hell? Is it God of Love? The goddess of love we see and the devilish goddess that came to Christiana in her sleep didn't look similar at all. Even though the Love Goddess is that much perverted as Christiana, I don't think it's her doing. Then it begs the question why did Raoul, the guy who knows that Christina literally Made people that way, would still torture them? I guess the manga isn't about revenge after all. It's about the madness that comes with desire to revenge everyone. So I guess I'm stuck to reading and revealing more of the actual mystery behind corruption of the world. But witnessing GODS being as much vile as lower people really makes me seem that this world was doomed from the beginning.
