Great tutorial. The only thing i miss is an explanation on why you do certain things and why they are important. I’ve been using mocha for years but it took me a long time to understand the layer order and it also gave me a lot of trouble when i used different resolutions without precomping. I think it would benefit some people to know some of these things. Thank you for the great tutorial!

When I hit "Apply Export" to the precomp, nothing happens. The precomp is not applied/fitted to the surface as it should but it stays full screen, blocking out the main comp and everything else. It moves, so some tracking data is applied to it but it stays full screen and 2D. What am I missing? Thanks

Hey! It sounds like you might've skipped a step. Around the 8:32 mark, make sure you click on "Create Track Data" and then choose "Sign." Missing this could be why you're facing that issue. However, there's a chance something else might've gone wrong earlier too. I'd recommend giving it another go from the start and seeing if you end up with the same issue. I hope this helps!

Unfortunately, I did create the tracking data. You can tell by looking at the numbers under tracking data + the layer I wanted to fit on the screen is being tracked (it's moving) just not the right way. Actually, I have seen 3 tutorials of this same thing and none of them work so far... Any other ideas? Thanks!@@ActionVFXofficial

@@ActionVFXofficial is it possible to get some help.. im searched high and low and cant get the answer! Im trying todo a screen replacement.. tracking is good but i want the replacement to sit behind the screen details ( sell the effect better) Ive seen the green screen method but im having issues removing the tracking points even using the matt cliping black and white it just wont land correct.. How do we create a custom shape for the replacement to sit in? .. as the planar is always square shaped but what about the phone detail or other situations where you might want it to replace a circle? I read you could ‘’mask’ it out but im really unsure on the process Ive spent hours and hours trying todo this and play around but i just cant figure it out?

Thanks for the question! You will need to export the tracking data from Mocha into After Effects. Inside Mocha there should be a "Track" tab under the "Parameters" section below the preview window. Inside the "Track" tab, there will be a button that says "Export Track". Click this button, and it will ask for which format you will like to export this data as. There are a few different formats for After Effects, but I believe either "After Effects Corner Pin" or "After Effects Transform Data" would work for this shot. Hit save, and it will save the tracking data as a .txt file. Back in the AE project, create a null object. Select the null object, and then simply copy and paste the data from inside the .txt file directly onto it. After that, take the pick-whip of the layer you want to apply the tracking data to (in this case a layer with a mask creating the matte for the sign) and drag it to the null layer to set the null as the parent. No, Mocha AE does not currently support motion tracking with 3D GLB files (although AE has rolled out some beta tests of a version that can edit GLB files). Mocha AE is a planar tracking system and as such, it deals primarily with 2D footage. You will need to use a 3D tracking software or a comprehensive VFX program like Blender, Maya, or Cinema4D for that purpose. Hope this helps!
