Just done it! Add another routine for max resolution instead on refresh and run it after. It will have a red exclamation mark saying it does work but I can run KZbin videos at 1440p while adaptive is still enabled in settings.

I did this months ago for my S20 Ultra when sakitech first made a video about this trick and since then I've been using my phone with 120Hz + medium power saver but I'm not sure if I can tell that much of a difference in battery life. It'll be interesting if someone made a video doing a comparison to see how much battery you can save. Thoughts anyone?

@Maxanish You can turn battery optimisation off for the Play Store so it can download and auto update apps even when medium power saver is on. That's what I do. You can do this for some apps if you want them to run in the background and save battery at the same time. Open the quick panel and type Optimize battery usage then select "All" and from there you will need to turn off the switch for the apps that you want to keep running.

So on my note 20 ultra I have adaptive power saving. It switches from optimized to medium power saving while keeping adaptive 120hz. I didn't even know this was an issue until this video since I never actually switch manually. I notice when it switches after unlocking my phone since always on display turns off. I keep an eye on the battery percentage while watching videos on both modes and I notice a decent difference. Even the slope of the graph on my battery usage kinda gives me a good idea when the adaptive mode switches. I might try 1 day on optimized and 1 day on medium power saving now. I don't even feel a difference in modes and rarely use aod.

Just turn on adaptive power saving. Does the same thing automatically and keeps frame rate at 120. You'll see an icon on the top right of the screen when it's activated.

Yeah but medium power saving also limits cp performance and closes apps quicker so it does make a big difference. My note 9 doesnt lag in medium power saving so I cant see note 20 ultra slowing down in med power save

I bought my N20U on October 31st. I don't have to manually set those bixby setup. Just turn on the adaptive power setting and turn on the bixby routine. The result is your battery saving is on medium while retain the adaptive motion.

Thanks, it really worked, I tested it on the Refresh Rate Checker and it was 120hz. Now we need to find out how to set it to 120Hz and not just adaptive.

If you can't see Medium power saving under Bixby Routines, make sure you have 'Adaptive power saving' turned off in power mode.

Scr3wBlu3 u know that phones these days aren’t phones from 10 years ago. The batteries aren’t replaceable and even if you did do it, you would breach the warranty and break the factory seal. It would lose water protection and possibly performance, and if anything goes wrong, you can’t fall back on warranty.

They have patched it in One UI 3.0 Beta. So now that medium savings option itself is not there. There is only one power saving option but that can be customised to what it has to do.

You should be able to go into Device Care, Battery, then Medium Power mode, and you can exempt the screen refresh rate.

Okay I really did test using this settings! I got 10:15 hrs of battery life from 100% down to 15%! I can say I'm impressed!!! 👌👌👌 What I used it for: 50% media volume and Adaptive Brightness KZbin (BlackPink videos LOL) KZbin Originals (2 movies) while mirroring it to TV. Thanks saki it works perfectly in my N20U but i just notice is the AOD is not enable and i cannot received messages on my apps like whatsapp, gmail and other social apps and you have to open the apps to see that you received any messages on those apps. But anyways its very helpful tricks😊

Try 1. battery mode = optimised 2. Slide adaptive power mode (at the bottom) toggle to ON Now when you go to display - motion smoothness will be greyed out. I have tested whether the motion smoothness tester is still on via www.testufo.com and I can confirm that the screen is still running at 120 hertz even when the phone automatically goes into medium power saving mode. More on this below... The advantage of running in this mode is that the phone will activate the medium power mode automatically (so you don't need to stay in this mode indefinitely) when battery is low, and even though this mode is activated 120 hertz will still be active.
