Wow - listening to this, I believe posted 13 years ago, shows just how consistent and deeply rooted. You are not only in your studies, but in your teaching, instruction and guidance. May your Ori continue to be successful

I believe this to be true... before progressing any further on any destination one must first go through a journey of learning oneself and especially about family lineages. See what your ancestors had practiced. I keep returning to Ifa (of course the Cuban version known as Regla de orisha/Ifa) and Santa Muerte, because they are part of my family history... one from long historical practices and beliefs of the Ifa through transitions and the other due to deep connections with Mexican beliefs and then there is mysticism from China and Ireland. My father side there are no spiritual connections except for my half sister who practices Balo/ Regla de Orisha. I say it is in the blood, so knowing oneself and especially knowing ones ancestors is first step in understanding why one is attracted to Ifa or any other religion more so. At least for me, that is how I ended up here, trying to figure it all out. I do the rituals with the orisha I have a deep connection with and have an alter for. Every Monday I acknowledge and give my offerings to him. The routine helps me keep focus and I think that is what religion suppose to do, help you be a better person by having those routine rituals. It is no different than meditating or praying. It is to redirect negativity away from mind and reach towards a more authentic self. Once that authenticity is reached I think that is when one finds the teacher one needs to do the proper rituals for initiation and to find the real practices for this religion. I could be wrong. I just go by the signs given to me in dreams and even in awaken life. Something always directs me. Maybe because I have ancestors from so many various ethnicities and cultures I get pulled from all direction. But mainly I get pulled into my familys' traditional Regla de orisha and the Mexican side of Santa Muerte. One must have the keys from the past in order to open the doors to the future, while reflecting and greeting the present.

Great content Baba. I agree wholeheartedly with this. Self Discovery is the most important thing one can do and you’re correct, nothing fills the void until you fill it with knowing who you are. I understand a lot more on what needs to be understood within first before moving forward with IFA. It came to me in a dream and I heard something about being crowned by an Orisha in my consciousness before I even knew what that was. I am of Cuban decent so the most I ever knew of Orisha was simply from the dances nothing more. As I take this journey in my life knowing who I am and choosing to walk the path of my destiny if you will, I keep feeling a draw towards IFA and my ancestors, however I did not want to just incorporate something because of dreams or intuition. So this is why I have asked you questions. I appreciate your videos very much and please continue the good work.

Yes that has been my experience over the years as well. Both personally and professionally, I have found that the inside out approach is a much more certain guarantee for success and fulfillment.
