Surprising that you can sum the signals before multiplying them. Are the input signals suppressed in the output? Are those spurious side frequencies the same side frequencies you would obtain from other frequency mixer circuits, or are they a special artifact of this particular mixer circuit? If the inputs are non-sinusoidal (eg square or sawtooth), will the output still behave like a multiplier?

The output have many intermodulation terms, the usually are canceled in a balanced or double balanced mixer. If the input is square, you will have intermodulation for all harmonic components... the square is composed of odd harmonics, so you can imagine the mess of harmonics intermodulating with each other

I'm familiar with the double balanced modulator from electronic music, where it's called a ring modulator. In music synthesis, the mixing of the overtones is quite audible in the output when you have non-sinusoidal inputs. My understanding is that in a ring or double balanced modulator, both the carrier and the modulator are suppressed, while a single balanced modulator suppresses only one input. Since the double balanced modulator is a voltage multiplier, the distinction between carrier and modulator is arbitrary. You can switch the inputs and the output will still be the same.

Hello! Nice video! I thought about passive JFET RF switching mixers - what is the maximum input voltage? In my opinion - a bit less that RF voltage from a local oscillator.This type of mixer is more inter-modulation resistant that , said, s MOSFET passive switching RF mixer (because of parasitic p-n function between drain and source). It has less noise. Am I right? What do you think?

Hi! I'm seeking for how to design mixers, in my first try i probe with unbalanced mixer with only one diode, but i need more information, please healp me!

Only way to learn is prototyping!! Make more and more mixers, you will begin to understand how they work

So how do you multiply by adding the signals again? How did adding result in multiplying? Also, what's the difference between mixing and multiplying?
@AllElectronicsChannel2 жыл бұрын
The signals are multiplied by the non-linearity of the transistor: (a+b)^2 will yield a * b therms!
@johnaweiss28 күн бұрын
Unclear. (2 + 3)^2=25 2x3=6
@AllElectronicsChannel28 күн бұрын
(a + b)^2 = a^2 + 2ab + b^2

@@AllElectronicsChannel Quadratic! When you say "a * b terms", do you mean the 2ab part?
