I got the FDR-AX700 in the summer of 2020. Great timing LOL. It was in its case most of the time because productions got 8-balled by COVID-19. This demo gives me more encouragement to go handheld in the field instead of passing by nice scenes just because I don't have the tripod with me. The color on this demo looked very good too.

Clear Image Zoom is amazing. We have it on FS5. Only glitch in it is that when zooming out, there is a distinct “bump” as you hit the barrier on way out. Doesn’t seem to be an issue on way in.
@takeiteasy134 жыл бұрын
Does your fs5 suffer from focus hunting in autofocus mode with face detection? When I shoot a speaker, the camera goes hunting from time to time even when the speaker's face is still

Thanks for the vido, this is how a test should be, not like so many others who upload uninteresting stuff recorded from a tripod with music, making it impossible to judge the actual abilities of the camera. The stabilisation seems to be good, seems to be improved over the AX100 which is the predecessor without the picture styles and only CDAF which strughles in low light.

Thanks for testing these features. Still on the fence about the AX700. Yes, the cost is a significant factor, but mostly I have yet to see a significant visual advantage (even on a 1in sensor) over Sony/Panasonic camcorders from years ago. Something something... diminishing returns
@akphotovideo7 жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching! Some things to look for when comparing new sensor technology to old is dynamic range and low light sensitivity. I do believe the new tech really helps capture details in both highlights and shadows while providing cleaner images in lower light environments. My last camera is the HDR-AX2000 and I think the image of the 700 really blows it away. Another thing to consider is that when good lighting and lenses are available many cameras will perform great and differences will be hard to see. This is why there are so many x camera compared to iphone videos. The real tests are when you get into challenging lighting. I also think this video shows of the wide dynamic range of these cameras. There is a lot of light but the shadows still have nice detail while only the brightest highlights are clipped. The ability to shoot in S-Log and instant HDR with the HLG profiles are also really cool features if you are into that. These features are definitely not for everyone but can really take your video to the next level.

Hi Adam, Thank you for sharing the great video. The image quality is outstanding, noticeably better than the image from the big competitor GX10/XF400. I think the reason is that Sony's sensor technology is superior to the competitors. Anyhow, I loved CIZ, you need a tripod when you use these CIZ telephoto shots a lot. The image stabilization worked really great; for simple video-logging for youtube, family events it's really fine. I have a ZhiYun crane, and when I really need outstanding smooth movements, I'd use that. What I loved how great the camera worked with autofocus. The Sony RX10IV has even better lens with 24 - 600 range and a bit faster (f2.4 - 4.0 vs f2.8 - 4.5), it has also full-featured S-Log, too. It has exactly the same price. It's very hard to decide to pick between the AX400 and the RX10IV.
@akphotovideo7 жыл бұрын
Thanks Miklos, I guess you have to decide between a 4 position nd filter or a better lens. Form factor makes a difference if you shoot more video or stills. You can always get a variable nd filter on the rx10iv. Also the LCD rotates 180 on the ax700 and only tilts on the rx10. That rx10iv makes a great camera though and the lens is superb for that price and has a great camera attached!

@@wallacegrommet3479 is it gimbal stabilization on ax700 too? Thought ax53 is gimbal stabilization. Correct me if I am wrong
@wallacegrommet34794 жыл бұрын
ezpainting yes. You are correct, I love my 700, for required stabilization I use my GoPro 8, but the 1” sensor makes the 700 worth the extra cash
@3city234 жыл бұрын
The ax53 has a gimbal inside, the ax700 doesn't have one. Ax53 offers much better stabilization, ax700 offers better low light situation videos. I bought the ax53 because I prefer the compact camcorder, without a tripod or a gimbal. Ax53 offers pretty good video with a good light. There are a few low light footages from the ax53 camcorder.If you prefer a gimbal or a tripod - I suggest the ax700, which has 1" sensor, if you are shooting without it, you should consider the ax53.

This is great, thanks. Comparing this to the XF400, which costs a lot more but I love the Canon stabilizers! Your stabilization there is amazing, I wonder how much the stab works on tripod? I shoot dance from quite a distance and just touching the buttons / turning the rings can wobble the camera a bit on a long lens, my Canon XH-A1 used to absorb that stuff well but OIS on my Panasonic HMC150 goes cuckoo on the tripod, little glitches and jumps every minute or so. This Sony cam has nice blues, Canon always feels nice and warmer. Panny is a little greener always. I notice in the last few shots there's some compressed colour on your face, it's like the pinks are crushed or maybe it's the gradation failing...

Curious how picture profiles like slog2 and slog3 work on this camera. Dslr and Mirrorless shooters are overlooking this camera, since camcorders apparently have a bad rep for image quality. It would be a good comparison to an A6300.
@akphotovideo7 жыл бұрын
Hi +Vitaliy Ponomarenko, I haven't shot much in slog but I would imagine those profiles will behave very close to the the same profiles in the a6300. Obviously the cameras and sensors are different so image qualities will vary but the codec is the same.
@PonomaPicture7 жыл бұрын
I would assume so too. I'm just a little concerned about noise levels. A6300 is known to have usable footage even up to 25000 iso, with a touch of a denoiser software.

Hi, video is interesting and nice. I heard this camera doesn't have intelligent active image stabilisation when shooting in 4k. Is that true? just to clear this confusion. When you were jogging was it actually recorded in 4k and intelligent Active stabilisation? or was that recorded in FHD n then converted to 4k for upload.

Can you please verify this: in 4K mode with a monitor (just monitor, not recorder! ) attached via HDMI, hitting the REC button will cause the STOP of the HDMI signal? Unfortunately this is happening with Sony AX100... In 1080 is fine, but not in 4K!!! (You can verify this on any TV). Thank you!

Excellent video, thanks!! I was hoping this would be the camcorder that would be the reasonable step up from the AX53 in terms of slightly better image quality and better access to manual controls without losing the phenomenal stabilization. This video makes me think it really might be just that... You wouldn't happen to have an AX53 available to test against would you?
@j4nv7 жыл бұрын
I hope to see that test soon, but I'm already afraid there's nothing out there (3 axis gymbals not taken in account) that beats the AX53 on stabilisation, especially in "intelligent active" mode
@tptrsn7 жыл бұрын
Absolutely, I hear you on that!! What I'm hoping to see is that along with the much better ease of using manual controls and better autofocus in the AX700, it also has slightly better IQ at the long end of the lens, and that the stabilization is still pretty good. I think it's too much to ask that the stabilization be just as good as the amazing AX53 since the sensor and glass are significantly bigger. But damn, the AX53 is just a little frustrating sometimes since you can't ever really control your settings when you need to.
@akphotovideo7 жыл бұрын
+Hammerhaus Kennel hi, unfortunately I do not have an ax53. The ax700 has a significantly larger sensor and lens so putting the BOIS would require a much larger body and make the camera more expensive.

Thanks!! It looked like the stabilization is still pretty good though, isn't it?

How its possible that gopro has the better stabilization than these expensive cameras?
@akphotovideo4 жыл бұрын
Gopro uses Electronic Image Stabilization which actually crops the image and uses software to stabilize. Larger camcorders incorporate optical Stabilization. Optical Stabilization wont reduce resolution but is tricky to incorporate with moving lenses and a floating sensor
