I do not carry around a bag like this. It's too heavy, it screams gun to anyone in the know, and it's bulky. However it does have a place and steps can be taken to conceal it more. "major blood???" tourniquets? quick clot? chest seals? pressure bandages? npa? that kit looks like it was designed for a minor cut, not a gunshot wound.
@koozie839 жыл бұрын
+David Burke Agreed. Dispose of the Level 1 med kit and sub in a complete GSW trauma kit (or two). Speaking as an EMT, if you really want to help prior to the arrival of medical response, you need tools not present in your Level 1 kit. Wherever this shooting occurs, EMS personnel will not enter the premises until it has been cleared by police and been advised it is safe. In a confusing situation, like an active shooter, this can take anywhere from 20 minutes to an hour or more depending on the size of the building/scene and the complexity of the situation. Plenty of time to bleed out from even a moderate arterial compromise, much less a severe one, or multiple arterial injuries. Facial trauma from a GSW can severely compromise the victim's upper airway in ways that are exceedingly difficult to treat without the proper tools, but become easily treated in a short term way if you have those tools available. Not enough trauma kit. Period. Tourniquets, compressed gauze, pressure bandages, some sort of hemostatic agent, chest seals, OPAs - at a minimum - and multiples of these! Mass shooting incidents have multiple victims. Not to mention that if you decide to engage the shooter rather than take and stay in cover, there is a very good chance you may get shot yourself. Be prepared to treat yourself if necessary.
@franktheweinerburke9 жыл бұрын
^ that. If it's not going to kill you in a couple hours or less, it's not something a trauma kit has to worry about. Band-Aids, ointments, etc have NO PLACE in a trauma kit.
@mtxearthquake129 жыл бұрын
Like he said, most likely paramedics will be on the scene very quickly. It's meant to be a temporary, lightweight kit. It's better than nothing.
@franktheweinerburke9 жыл бұрын
Dylan Lavergne what he said and what reality is aren't the same thing. An arterial bleed will bleed out in well under 120 seconds, paramedics won't be there in anywhere near that time frame. And no, it's not better than nothing. If anything it's worse because it gives you a sense of false confidence that you're prepared when in fact you've got nothing that will actually treat trauma.
@ricks.10929 жыл бұрын
+David Burke In all my years of being a surgeon. I've never seen a person bleed out in 2 mins. Depending on persons size. The extent of the subsequent injury(ies). If a person sustains an arterial bleed(s). It will take a bit longer to bleed out. Yes it can and does occur in minutes. I also, highly suggest, if a person has no training, knows nothing about accessing the ABC's. Then wait for paramedics or EMS. There's a high probability a untrained individual can do more harm. I've seen the handy work of untrained people simple suture a laceration in the wrist vicinity. And the patients hand was permanently paralyzed. You never want to cause more harm. If a person wants the knowledge in providing first aid. I suggest you take a First Aid course. Anyone can put pressure on a wound. At the same time. You could apply too much pressure. And cause injuries to health tissue/organs. Get training first...please.

Great video, but the force multiplier to quash active shooters anywhere is to have legally concealed law abiding citizens meet the threat, as demonstrated recently in Israel by the terrorist attacks, it was the citizens legally carrying their firearms that met and neutralized the threat. I give much respect to law enforcement, but by the time they arrive several people are dead before they can neutralize any active shooter threats!!!

what do you mean there will be a responder on scene that will be able to take care of medical things faster than you ?? that's not true there will not be any paramedics on scene until the police search the building and make sure the scene is safe that could take hours and people bleed to death in minutes you need tourniquets and gauze to stop bleeding on you your family and others involved that would be horrible if someone bled to death because you didn't have a cheap TQ and Gauze I carry a tk4 and H&H Gauze every day it takes up no space in my pocket

Just speaking from my military experience, another cool idea that law enforcement could use with this bag would be having a ready to go belt with mags loaded and attached and possibly a holster and have that put in a bag folded away so when things go south you could use that clip on belt to quickly get going with your weapon of choice. I figure it's better than carrying the bag and fumbling around with mags. Just a suggestion! Thanks for the vids.

Civilans should avoid conflict as much as possible. The best carry options are typical subcompacts: Glock 26, S&W Shield, and other high quality subcompacts.
@smcombs1009 жыл бұрын
+hag12100 Sure, but conflict doesn't always avoid you. Handguns are underpowered, subcompacts are even worse, and are lower capacity. If capable/willing, mid-fullsize guns are pretty choices.
@jdmcommute9 жыл бұрын
+smcombs100 I can understand your view but unfortunately a court will not. That is what Nutn is trying to express. A rifle cartridge weapon will always be the best at stopping a threat but can also put you in jail depending what state you live in. Speaking from experience, a LE who is not Constitutional will also take your shit and claim its "contraband" and the department keeps it for themselves. Its not worth the attorney feed and court fees, just carry a handgun and train with it.

Concerning the discussion of the medical aspect of the kit, people, the trauma kit that should be carried is not intended for civilian casualties, it is intended to treat YOU. An active shooter response bag has two major requirements-ammunition and first aid for bleeding. Period. The tourniquet, pressure bandage, hemostatic agent, gauze and two chest seals can be applied by you, or by someone who knows their function on you. And you better have a good flashlight if you don't already have one in your pocket. My EDC in my pockets always includes a duty sized flashlight and a SWAT-T tourniquet. David Burke and Tyler Price make great points in these comments.

I used to carry with a Maxpedition Fatboy Versa Pack but it was too dorky and I thought it screamed gun. Now I carry off body with a Eshow Men's Bag I got off Amazon. The bag is not quite a messenger bags size but it is still masculine enough not to pass has a purse. The one thing I wanted in a carry bag was a large enough pocket in the back of the bag that I could fit my CZ-P01. Again, not in the main pouch or in the front of the bag but in a smaller zipper pocket in the very back of the bag separate from the main pockets. I got just what I wanted. I can access this picket without drawing attention to my self and grip my pistol from a Gen1 Galco Carry Safe from a vertical cant. The front of the bag has two pockets where I carry a Fenix flash light and an extra magazine. In the main pouch I carry a whistle, CPR kit, and a seatbelt cutter in the little inside pockets . My EDC knife stays in my pants pocket. This Eshow bag is a brown canvas bag that looks totally civilian. I have even gone to several theaters where they check bags and I just flip the main pouch open and show them my sketch book or whatever I have with me. The back pocket is too subtle to notice and the bag is totally unassuming. I saved the Maxpedition for the trails.

I found so far that the Merlin Pack by Soft Armor is best for EDC. It carries up to a 6" barrel pistol through one of its arms and an extra mag in the other arm. I never leave home without it.

nutn, not sure if I'm weird or not but just to share, i am a trained EMT, i carry what i would consider a level 2 first aid kit, includes about everything an EMT would use except oxygen (c-collar, fracture splint kits, a clip-on pulse ox w/ pulse, a blood pressure cuff etc) along with a separate tear-away blood/trauma 12"x12" clam case. i recently added a 9mm walther ppq w/2 mags, a quick owb slip-in holster, and a 2-mag magazine holster. i carry the bag because i have been at accident scenes off duty and have felt totally naked and helpless. i carry it in a well-marked tactical-ish backpack and added the gun in addition due to these active shooter scenarios, the gun is kept in a separate area of the pack in a hardshell case. i keep this in my jeep as sort of a do it all tool bag for emergency as most off road people keep a do it all tool bag for trail breakdowns to be used by myself or the off duty cop/nurse who is on scene with me.

Couple of CAT tourniquets? Nitrile gloves? Clear Mouth CPR Microshield? These are all very light items, to beef-up the med kit. "Stealth-wise," how 'bout some actual photography accessories, such as a telephoto lens case, into which you could stuff all of the medical supplies, or the restraints, for instance, so that the rig "reads" as a photographer's bag? Perhaps some shutterbug patches? You get the idea......just to "de-tacticalize" the overall appearance. I might not even give it a second look, but that's because I've been around photographers a lot.

I take exception to being considered to be unable to act in the event of an active shooter situation that I would find myself in. I will never run from an active shooter. I carry a weapon to effect stopping of others from harming innocent persons. I spent 8 years being trained in the Army and did see combat. I then spent 4 years as a cop while I attended college. Just because I now make a living from a desk does not mean I don't still train on a regular basis to protect myself and others. If I wait for a cop to show up & innocent people are dying while we wait, I would not be able to live with myself. I'll take my chances with taking action whenever it's needed. I can handle it, I hate how everyone thinks the police can always be there when an incident takes place to stop it from happening. Get real! They show up after harm has already been done. Civilians are usually the ones in the vicinity of the incident when it starts or is the progress. Therefore, civilians should not be afraid to act and stop the threat before more innocent lives are taken. Taking the mindset that the police always be there to handle an active shooter is one of the best ways for legislation to be put into place that will take weapons away from civilians because the argument will be & the public will be brainwashed to think, "Well civilians don't engage in stopping bad guys, so why do you need an AR15?".

Nutn, I'm glad you caveated this kit for LE only. In times of high stress you could be easily mistaken as the active shooter. I agree CCW for your own personal protection but these active shooter kits make sense for LEO

Officers in NYC used to carry rifles all the time. Especially at the subway stations. Idk if they still do.

NYC resident here. You only see cops with rifles in highly populated areas like Times Square and Grand Central.

+The91strecon Longtim NYC resident here. Normal patrol cops don't carry AR's anywhere in the city, although NYPD Hercules teams often appear for brief periods ( ~30 min) at critical sites such as subway stations and other potential targets. Trying to be unpredictable etc. Penn Station on the other hand is a 24-hour fortress. Literally a cop, trooper, or guardsman every 5 yards, all armed with handguns. As the other guy said it only became a regular thing after 9/11.

Agreed, a tourniquet and a pressure dressing would be far more effective than the medical equipment shown, probably take up about the same space too.
@Khorton0149 жыл бұрын
I always advocate carrying medical equipment, but just like a firearm, you should be trained on how to use it. The entire tactical community is on board with tourniquets. I'm in that majority, but I'm also a registered nurse. Tourniquets are a last ditch effort to prevent hypovolemic shock due to mass arterial bleeding from a limb. Not every gunshot to a limb requires one. If you apply that tourniquet correctly you will stop blood flow to the distal part of that limb. The saying "life over limb" is absolutely true, but no need to kill the limb if your life is not endanger.
@freefieldtraining9 жыл бұрын
Here you can see the opinion article published by the mayo clinic by surgeons about tourniquet use: www.mayoclinic.org/medical-professionals/clinical-updates/trauma/combat-tested-tourniquets-save-lives-limbs If any police officer is reading this and has not had training on using a TK or pressure dressing in a self aid/ buddy aid class I advise you to start kicking and screaming to have one brought to your agency. It has already saved the life of a buddy of mine on the street. P.S. he kept the leg and returned to full duty.

I keep a steel plate in the laptop pouch of a maxpedition backpack that I keep in my car, or at my desk. Unfortunately I cannot carry at work, so I am relegated to generally defensive measures. Didn't know they made an aluminum asp though, looking into that, thanks.

Hey Nutn' what do you think about the badges that civilians can buy that just say "concealed carry permit" but look like a real badge. I was just thinking that might be something you could throw on to give a better chance of not being confused as the bad guy, obviously if the cops come in back off and let them take over. Just a thought I had recently.

+acceptable1000 Glenwood is correct. Nutn's Urban Survival Kit is the one to watch. "Bugging in" is the way to go in almost all WROL scenarios.

I think having all that gear attached to some body armor would be a better way to go. You can then put the whole setup inside a normal single compartment duffle bag. The time it takes to gear up will be critical in an active shooter situation and every second spent could result in another victim. By having it all in a wearable system you just take the vest out of the bag, put it on and go. If you are LE make sure you have a tag on it identifying you as such to avoid confusion when others respond. Realistically a go bag is going to sit in a vehicle or at a desk anyways and will not be carried around so all those compartments in a carry bag are not really that useful compared to a wearable system.
@greywolfarmory73369 жыл бұрын
Sorry Nutn, but you got one thing completely wrong at time index 18:25. In an active shooter situation there will be no EMTs at all in the area until law enforcement has secured the area. That could mean anywhere from 15 to 60 minutes (or more) after LEOs arrive on scene before medical help is present. You need more than a few tampons and some gauze in your med kit if you are going to save someone who is bleeding severely.
@Alexsmoak8089 жыл бұрын
sorry I'm not familiar with names of some guns. but say in substitute of the AR. u have one of those collapsible stock mini sub machine gun. (u know what I mean. ) light weight and could be carried reletively easy, as oppose to ar15. right? like secret service kind of load out. just a thought

Glass breaker would be great for the molle on the side. You could use the asp as a glass breaker, but a carbide tip spring loaded breaker would be better.

Nutn I'd probably change up the medical side. Ditch all the swabs and other things like that. Space allowing a couple of Tqs, couple of chest seals and maybe, maybe a roll of kerlix. Especially given you're not going to be managing upper airway just plan for arterial bleeds and pneumothorax. That's going to where you could possibly make the difference till EMS arrived.

Take a seam ripper to the molle, the 5.11 tag, and even the Velcro patch. Get rid of all that stuff that draws unnecessary attention and isn't useful anyway. Make yourself a lot less conspicuous.

I love this channel. I have a concealed pistol permit...but I don't feel like I could take care of an active shooter unless it was a obvious situation. Since statistically I will never encounter this situation I am okay with that. I hope I never have to use my gun. God Bless.

Nutnfancy, on Amazon there are Glock mag base plates that have caliber markings. 9mm, .40, and .357, with that "active shooter" kit they'd be easily identifiable. The engravings are easily legible with a glance.
