WHAT'S THE POINT IN MAKING LAWS FOR THOSE WHO DON'T RESPECT IT? Please, explain to me how can LAW prevent those who don't respect it from doing bad things? It only prevents good citizens from being free.
@adamchurvis14 жыл бұрын
Laws do not take any action, much less prevent the actions of others. Laws are statements of the boundaries between legal and illegal behaviors, and they sometimes provide for a framework of punishment for crossing those boundaries which judges use as guidelines for declaring specific punishments in specific cases, based on the facts of each case. That's why we make laws, why we preserve them, and how we use them. Laws are a society's expression of the degree of freedom their citizens enjoy (or don't). We have very good laws here, on the whole, but of course they could be better.

@@6862ptc I wouldn't necessarily disagree with your sentiment as well. Though I'm unsure of what the specific "different issues" are you refer to. Prohibition is a strong word to me and implies force or coercion of some kind. It seems to me, particularly in this regard, that there is a clear and definitive difference in the two parties methodologies. Democrats (meaning today's) being far more restrictive of certain liberties, including the most fundamental of all - the right (and the means) to think and decide for oneself. Vis-à-vis preceding I'm particularly concerned by the apparent alliance between 'big tech' (social media) and the Democrats. Given the totality of circumstance the preceding is unprecedented in degree and severity. And is something that in effect limits freedom of expression/opinion. And that is something a democracy can not long survive.
@6862ptc3 жыл бұрын
@@emansnasFirst let me say I'm a moderate so I am only describing what I read the Left is saying about the Right. But I'm talking about issues like what a woman chooses to do with her own body. Prohibiting LGBTQ from serving in the military, prohibiting same-sex marriages, prohibiting same-sex adoptions. Support for bigoted business owners who wish to carry out their business - which are public accommodations, to which nondiscrimination laws apply - prohibiting LGBTQ from using these businesses under the guise of Freedom of Religion. It's easy to conclude (as MANY right-wingers have accused of the DEMS), that Republicans also HATE huge groups of AMERICANS. They are anti-separation of church and state, anti-labor/union, anti-public schools, anti-science, anti-campaign finance reform, anti-OSHA, anti-SEC, anti-EPA, anti-Federal Reserve, anti-health care, anti-equal rights and anti-civil rights. All designed to aid and protect Americans. In fact, President Trump appointed folks to run the Dept of Ed., EPA and other Departments that had previously spent their entire careers fighting the very departments they were now to lead. Trump's Republican Party foisted lower taxes with INCREASED Federal spending (craziness right?), pro-financial deregulation back to another financial disaster (like the great recession), pro-monopolies (unless it's in industry's who vote for Democrats like high-tech), not to mention the support of white supremacy groups, pro-fake news "Conspiracy-Party Platform" as policy direction, and finally support for an overt insurrection.
@emansnas3 жыл бұрын
@@6862ptc Mmm, that really is quite a laundry list isn't it. Far be it for me to have the time or inclination to address each individually, but maybe a few observations. Some on the list are obviously exaggerative, others are of high concern to small special interest groups (some 'entity' please help us if those in that category - on EITHER side - ever become dominant forces), others less about prohibition than balance (a suicide pact with idealism is ultimately in no one's interest). Clearly fundamental human rights should be maintained, but also the interests of society. Specifically on abortion, it's an extremely complex issue isn't it. One that not only involves emotionality, morals, high and low ethics, and the fundamental needs of a species, but also everyday real world practicalities. Pretty sure that the longest dissertation by some of the smartest people on the planet attempting to be completely rational and objective would be wholly inadequate in resolving the issue. It seems like it should be too obvious to have to state, but the form of government we're under was 'born' under the guidance of those who honestly, with the highest ideals, tried extremely hard (at risk of life) to construct a nation based on certain principles (we should all know what those are). What has happened under those principles is arguably the most powerful, freest, most prosperous nation to ever see the face of planet Earth. A nation that has defeated other nations of great evil who attempted to prevail, and held at bay others that would similarly threaten our way of life. Clearly it became (or is) evident to 'them' that the nation cannot be defeated from without. From within however is an entirely different matter.

I actually don't believe America feel they have a right to guns because of the 2nd Amendment. They just have been brought up since a young nation to believe they have a right to guns. If any other country had the exact same 2nd Amendment, like Canada, we would interpret it as not allowing the public to have guns. Only the militia. Which was the only military at the time. So America has the gun debates raging constantly. Why is that? Australia banned almost all guns. They don't have any debates or controversy or any problem with guns anymore. AT ALL. You stand over another human who has been shot, stabbed, run over or whatever and watch in real-time as they die. I for one can tell you it has a tremendous impact on you. As for the 2nd Amendment it has nothing to do with people who are so desensitize or so mentally removed from the actual violence they are doing. The right for legal gun ownership is clearly laid out in the in the Constitution. It is in fact their based on the founders previous experience and they understood fully what tyranny was. They had lived under oppressive power; especially oppressive power exerted by government. Thus, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed. and the well regulated Militia means to organize the people who take up arms to defend their freedom.

automatic weapons are legal in this country IF you pay the tax on it. The last I heard it was a $250 tax stamp.
@ardvarkkkkk19 жыл бұрын
+SpockMcoy Issmart $200 for the stamp. Not legal to own an automatic that was made after 1986. Consequently, they are very expensive.

+monty1300 what personal use do you need a machine gun for?
@spockmcoyissmart9619 жыл бұрын
Dukerbud 88 I know guys who collect all manner of firearms for kicks of shooting, then profit when selling. No different than hotwheels, baseball cards. all items are safe/dangerous in the right/wrong hands. Don't run with that pencil kid, you'll poke your eye out!
@Darrin.Crawford9 жыл бұрын
+SpockMcoy Issmart Hmmm interesting. I have never heard of mass killings with hot wheels, baseball cards or even pencils for that matter. Because of the risks involved with machine guns wouldn't it be more wise to take up another "collectible" hobby? Just curious.

I liked how Gary Sinise mentioned the 1997 North Hollywood shootout. I use it to this day as an example of the Bill Clinton administrations failed gun control and possibly the last bank robbery where fully automatic weapons were used by criminals.

Actually, fully automatic firearms are legal in certain states, and depending on the particular laws of those states, will be what determines how easy or how difficult it is to legally purchase a full-auto. For example, a full-auto is legal in Florida. However, in order to legally purchase one, you're going to need to be patient and willing to spend thousands of dollars for the license and for the firearm you want. First, before you do anything else, you have to apply to the state government for a special license, which is not cheap to do. You have to go through a lot of paperwork and you have to play the waiting game, because this process can't happen overnight. It would take weeks, if not a few months. Now, if your application for the license gets approved and you receive the license in the mail, then that's when you would be able to legally go shopping for a full-auto. Some of them go as high as $10,000 to $20,000, if not more. It depends on the gun and who's selling it. This is why most financially average Florida gun owners don't actually own a full-auto, nor do they really care to. They're expensive, the gun ranges that allow you to shoot them on their property is limited to a small number, and a full-auto is not very accurate when it's being fired. Unfortunately, that high cost, tons of paperwork, lack of ranges, and lack of accuracy, certainly won't stop a criminal from getting their hands on a full-auto, if they want one. Why won't any of the above stop a criminal from getting any firearm, including a full-auto? Because, they're criminals. By definition of their choice of profession, they don't obey the laws. If they did, then they wouldn't be criminals. They don't buy guns from gun stores, they buy guns on the street from other criminals, which is an underground enterprise, aka the black market.

I'm glad you addressed Mr. Sinise's incorrect statement about machine guns being illegal in the United States. Thank you for explaining this to those who did not know or understand the procedures you need to go through to own and shoot a machine gun legally here. Love this gentleman for decades. A stand-up guy!

@@ericrohrbaugh2713 Yes, I agree. Gary Sinise is definitely a great man and a true American patriot. I love all of the hard work he does for first responders, veterans, and Active Duty. Not to mention, he has made some pretty cool movies. I just thought I would make sure the facts were known about the legality of full-auto's.

Way to go Gary. "The rifle itself has no moral stature. Naturally it may be used by evil men, for evil purposes. But there are more good men than evil. If the latter cannot be persuaded to the path of righteousness by propaganda, they can certainly be corrected by good men with rifles." Col Jeff Cooper

A car can be a weapon and you don't have to own it yourself either, same with a kitchen knife too and stuff for the garden can be changed into a bomb. They can't ban everything people have to choose to be good or bad that is why laws and police are so important so the bad choices in life have hard consequences for the perpetrators.

You can not control gun rights because just that, if take away the law abiding citizens rights to bare arms then your giving criminals more rights/control. Besides its not guns that kill people "people kill people" we need a better punishment for people that think they are above law.

Yes, you nailed it. For a second, I thought Mr. Sinise might say 'guns don't kill people or commit crimes by themselves', but he handled Mr. King's rather blockheaded perspective very diplomatically. Liberals in general seem to feel just passing laws will change the behavior of bad people , and if law-abiding citizens' rights have to be trampled in order to try to alter the malfeasance of criminals, terrorists, etc.--well, so be it. However, liberals also in general like to see an all powerful government which can limit law-abiding citizens' rights seemingly at will while ignoring systemic issues which lead to crime.

Bad people are going to kill with whatever weapon is available to them. Gun control is just people control, nothing to do with safety of the citizens. Gun control is the 1st step to communism. Ask the Germans when Hitler took power, he took away their guns

Gary is a conservative, and makes no secret of it. With a framed photo of Pres. Reagan in Mac's office it's pretty clear. He speaks calmly, and expains the reason why taking guns isn't going to work; and it is our Constitutional right to have them. I want this whole interview. Wasn't aware it had aired yet. I adore Gary. He's a patriot, and a man who gives so much to our military and First Responders. I just love him!

Jim Carry makes me laugh, but he also makes me cry. THIS makes my day, One of my favorite actors (Gary) supporting gun rights. I'm a family man, a nurse, a good part of our community (I like to think). I like Archery, and firearms for sports. I like my friends I get together with and the right to just have some fun, safely, legally, and responsibly. There are bad people and that's the way it is, that just sucks. Thanks Gary.
