Very nice post..we all (friends) met pran saheb at kolkata( dumdum) in the year 1971/1972(most probably) in a concert of hemant kumar, asha ji etc. He was a perfect gentleman and rich voice power. He was a great actor with a very good range of acting power. He is also very popular in his time.

Hi Rahoul, When I saw BOBBY(1972) for the first time, I was enjoying the movie right until the point where Raj and Bobby elope to Goa. Until then it was an RK film with great songs and story. Then it started falling apart like no RK film had done before. When the two kids confronted the goons, I realized they had to defend themselves and then the two dads joined in and I put my head in my hands and said, ‘ Oh Raj Kapoor , et tu? What have you done? You’ve given in to mediocrity.‘ Because that’s what I equate fight scenes to - using mediocrity to substitute for a good, creative plot to resolve conflicts. Of course, I understand the impulse to do it. Indian film makers have to feed the beast, now that that they’ve created it, and the excuse used is that the public expects it. The “it” is a mandatory wet saree scene, a mandatory rape scene, and a mandatory fight scene. I thought Raj Kapoor was above it. SANGAM (1964) was clean. Even JIS DESH MEIN GANGA BEHTI HAI (1959) was relatively clean and it was a movie about dacoits! I guess that in 1973 Raj Kapoor was bankrupt because of MERA NAAM JOKER (1970) and he couldn’t take any chances. He had to make money, lots of it, and fast! And he did! No one can accuse RK, THE MASTER SHOWMAN, of not knowing the public pulse. BOBBY WAS NOT ONLY A SUPER HIT, IT WAS A PHENOMENON the likes of which India had not seen before, except for MUGHAL-e-AZAM(1960). For over a year, the theatres were HOUSE-FULL. Special busses, known as “Bobby” busses used to run from the hinterland to towns where Bobby was being played. Rahoul, yes, Pran’s “acting” in the river was very realistic. And, ironically, thanks to your episode “NOSE PUNCH”, we now know the name of the picture that started fights in Hindi Cinema: TUMSA NAHIN DEKHA (1957). 😊

Respected Rahoulji, U hv so much knowledge in films n music, one more thing I wud like to knw if u hv the info, Nasir Hussain asked Dharamji to wear a wig in Yadon ki Baraat while Dharamji hd good hair style. Like, in the film Dharti 1970, Waheedaji, such an eternal beauty, I wonder why the directer Sridhar Saab asked her to wear that wired wig. Like Prakash Mehra asked Ranjeet to wear wig in Namak Halaal in the Arjun Singh job interview scene, then onwards Ranjeet never wore that wig for the rest of the film.
