I was not raised in any church, and at age 15 I joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, reading was always a struggle for me so I read very little in my life time. Thus I always thought the Bible ended when Jesus was gone. Imagine my experience when I did read the Bible's New Testament, that the Apostles continued on from that point. So this lesson is dear to me. Thank you for expanding, and letting me relive this, my experience all over again. Another Grand lesson. I love the Lord and all he has done for us, and has given us, to return back to Our Heavenly Father.

Thanks for your comment. Here is a little explanation as to why you don't hear as much from Taylor. Taylor and Tyler have been friends for 11+ years. Taylor recognized that Tyler has a gift for teaching the Gospel, and begged Tyler to record his lectures to BYU students to make available online. Tyler always declined because he didn't want to draw any attention to himself in that way. When CFM rolled around for Book of Mormon 2020, Taylor approached Tyler and asked him to record a brief episode on the introduction to the BoM. Tyler agreed. Over time they kept recording episodes together and that eventually morphed into what you all now know as Come Follow Me Insights. Taylor has said on multiple occasions that Tyler provides the meat and application while he provides the color commentary. If you wonder why there is a disparity in time sharing, it is by design. Our editors even note many occasions where Tyler will stop teaching to give Taylor an opportunity to share, but Taylor declines, and instead motions for Tyler to continue. Hopefully this explanation helps regarding the setup of Come Follow Me Insights. Thanks for watching! We hope that your knowledge and love for the Savior increase each time you study with us!

I find more substance in scripture study and learning with these "Come Follow Me" lessons that are emailed to me weekly, along with "Come Follow Up" Sundays on the BYU Channel. I love these lessons! I will say, I wish we could have learned more about Ananias and Sapphira, and more specifically how/why they “yielded up the ghost”. I get that it isn’t a comfortable topic and that it’s not the main point of this lesson, but it shook me a bit, and I wish it wasn’t glossed over. I absolutely loved everything else - as usual ❤
@scripturecentralofficial
@scripturecentralofficial Жыл бұрын
We understand your curiosity about Ananias and Sapphira, and it's totally okay to have questions! Their story, found in Acts 5:1-11, can be a bit challenging to understand. Ananias and Sapphira were early members of the Church who sold a piece of property and lied about the amount of money they received so they could secretly keep part of it. They presented the money to Peter, claiming it was the full amount, but Peter, guided by the Holy Ghost, knew they were being dishonest. Their actions were not just about lying; they were also about hypocrisy and deceit in a time when the early Church was working to establish trust and unity among the members. When Peter confronted them, they both "yielded up the ghost," or in other words, died suddenly. The story serves as a reminder of the importance of honesty, sincerity, and unity in the Church. It's important to continue studying and praying for understanding as we come across difficult topics in the scriptures. And remember, it's always okay to ask questions and seek further insight! Thanks for your comment!😊

Thanks a billion for a beautiful presentation Bretheren. It's always nice for me to come back to my recharge station. I always feel completely rejuvenated after watching your presentations. I was thinking about what you said about the Abrahamic covenant. I don't know if Abraham understood just how huge that promise was at the time. I think in a sense it may have taken a lifetime for him to grasp the entirety of that covenant. I know he understands it now. Looking at it like this is my way of trying to grasp the full meaning of what that covenant entails for me. Being an individual living at this time/today, I step back and look at the history of the Children of Israel and then look at all the people on the earth today. I am amazed and blown away at just how deep and monumental that covenant is. It is beautiful, it is timeless and eternal, and it is still growing. There's still more to come. The messages from the scriptures are so amazing. The story of Abraham alone tells me alot about the Lord and his promises. I love the discussion on the lame man, so beautiful. Sorry to overuse that word all the time, but actually, all the phenomenal insights from this channel are beautiful. I can go on about the diamonds of learning i have recieved from this presentation, but I will stop before I get started otherwise this comment will turn into an essay. Just know that you are all very much appreciated and valued. I love the direction the videos are going in, and I Iove the new opening look. God bless everyone at SC ❤.

To help answer your question why the Lord did not go to other tribes. In 3rd Nephi during one of the times the Lord was getting ready to leave, the Lord said to them. Other sheep I have that is not of this fold I need to teach them also. I'm not going to try and quote the scripture word for word 3rd Nephi. Even though I have read that several different times myself, I had to wait for the first time and stop reading that scripture for a minute and thought about it, because I wondered the same thing. The Lord did go to other places to teach the same exact things to the other tribes and Nations and to teach the Father's Will set aside for the work to be done in due time. The Book of Mormon people , ARE not the only people the Lord visited, I'm sure there are many more. I have heard from different sources and people, in their own prophecies that they hold dear they remember the glorified Christ. Of course they use different words and meanings then what I have used. It certainly catches your attention if you wonder about these unanswered questions we all have. I was listening to a interview when person from Africa spoke about different prophecies they had and one of them was that the eagle would land on the Moon and they wondered about that. Another prophecy many years before it even happened, was the the tall glass buildings would crumble into pieces before the coming of Christ on the East Coast over in the Promised Land. And there was something else on the west coast I don't remember. I heard this around 1990 or 91 on that talk show. I have heard of other people about their prophecies that was handed down from generation to generation. The Native Americans people can give you a lot of information also these prophecies. Be patient sooner or later our questions will be answered.

Love your amazing teaching so much!! I am always learning new things from you and am so grateful!! QUESTION: in the scripture from Isaiah where the Lord has engraved us on the palms of his hands… The part I don’t understand is this: your walls are always before me. What does that mean? I have wondered about that for years. Thank you again for all you do! It is greatly appreciated!
@scripturecentralofficial

Thank you so much for your kind words! We're glad I can be of help. 😊 The verse you're referencing is found in Isaiah 49:16, which reads: "Behold, I have graven thee upon the palms of my hands; thy walls are continually before me." The phrase "thy walls are continually before me" could have multiple interpretations, but one of the common understandings is that it's referring to the walls of Jerusalem or Zion. In this interpretation, the Lord is expressing His constant concern and watchfulness over His people and their dwelling place. The walls symbolize protection, and the scripture implies that God is mindful of keeping His covenant people safe and secure. We hope that helps you to understand this scripture a bit better!

I like that the women were implied to be there in the upper room again and were part of the speaking of tongues and peter verified it with Joel's prophecy
@scripturecentralofficial
@scripturecentralofficial Жыл бұрын
You're talking about the events in Acts 2, where the disciples and other followers of Jesus, including women, were gathered in the upper room on the day of Pentecost. The Holy Ghost descended upon them, and they were all filled with the Spirit and began to speak in different tongues. Peter then stood up and referred to the prophecy of Joel, confirming that this was a fulfillment of that prophecy. Women have always played a significant role in the gospel and in the early Church. Their faith, contributions, and spiritual gifts were essential to the growth and strength of the Church then, just as they are today. Great thoughts! 😊

Do we have any reference if Jesus Christ ascended first and then visited the Nephites or did He visit them during that 40 days after his resurrection?
@scripturecentralofficial
@scripturecentralofficial Жыл бұрын
In the Book of Mormon, Jesus Christ's visit to the Nephites occurs after His resurrection and ascension in the New Testament. In 3 Nephi 10:18-19, it states that Jesus appeared to the Nephites in the Americas shortly after the destruction and upheaval that took place around His crucifixion. However, the precise timing of this event in relation to the 40 days He spent with His apostles in the Old World (as recorded in Acts 1:3) is not explicitly mentioned. It seems likely that His visit to the Nephites happened after those 40 days, as His ascension recorded in Acts 1 appears to be His final departure from the apostles in the Old World. That being said, it's important to remember that both accounts emphasize the powerful and personal ministry that Jesus performed in different parts of the world, displaying His deep love and concern for all His followers.

You guys literally used the exact phrasing that Lord inspired in my mind when I wrote this song I’m attaching below titled “You and Me” and it gave me the chills when I heard you say “he has engraved YOU and ME on the palms of His hands.” Over a year ago I had the words “you and me”and this melody keep coming to my head and I kept ignoring it because it sounded like it was a love song and I was trying to write songs about Christ. And then finally I realized that this was the greatest love story ever told. The atonement that engraved “you and me” upon His hands. So I humbled myself and wrote the song He put in my mind. Here it is. kzbin.info/www/bejne/b5bFpoSJltqHfcU

Hello. Just a gentle correction: "Infalliable" is not a word. Infallible is the correct word.

Would it be correct to say 40 is symbolic of a period of sanctification, whether 40 is meant literally or symbolically. I have wondered the whole old testament year that when so many things are so symbolic, 40 must mean more than a long time/period of time. It seems to fit in context that 40 is symbolic of a period of sanctification (the flood, Moses on mount Sinai, wandering in the wilderness, Jesus fasting, etc)
@scripturecentralofficial
@scripturecentralofficial Жыл бұрын
Yes, in many scriptural contexts the number 40 holds symbolic significance, often representing a period of testing, sanctification, or spiritual preparation. This symbolic meaning is found in various instances throughout the Bible and other religious texts. Here are a few examples from the scriptures: The great flood during Noah's time lasted for 40 days and 40 nights (Genesis 7:12). Moses spent 40 days and 40 nights on Mount Sinai to receive the Ten Commandments (Exodus 24:18). The Israelites wandered in the wilderness for 40 years before entering the Promised Land (Numbers 32:13). Jesus Christ fasted for 40 days and 40 nights in the wilderness before starting his public ministry (Matthew 4:1-2). It's important to note that, whether the number 40 is meant to be taken literally or symbolically, the emphasis is on the spiritual significance of the time period and the lessons that can be learned from these experiences. Keep in mind that interpreting numbers symbolically in the scriptures can sometimes be subjective, so it's always vital to consider the context and pray for personal understanding. 😊

A question came up by a non member. Could you clarify it for me? Did the 3000 that were baptized in Acts 1 baptized by those with the authority? The non member says there is nothing about authority. And there's no way that 3000 were baptized by only those with authority. Thank you. (Acts 1)

Theophilus is mentioned in the New Testament of the Bible, specifically in the opening verses of the Gospel of Luke and the Acts of the Apostles. Both of these books were written by the same author, Luke, and Theophilus is addressed in each as the recipient of the author's account. Luke 1:3 states, "It seemed good to me also, having had perfect understanding of all things from the very first, to write unto thee in order, most excellent Theophilus." Acts 1:1 also mentions Theophilus: "The former treatise have I made, O Theophilus, of all that Jesus began both to do and teach." The identity of Theophilus is not clear, but he is generally believed to have been a high-ranking Roman official or someone of importance, considering Luke addresses him as "most excellent." Theophilus may have been a patron or supporter of Luke's work, or he might simply represent the broader audience of educated, non-Jewish readers who Luke hoped to teach about Jesus Christ's life and ministry. Despite the uncertainty surrounding Theophilus' identity, one thing is clear: Luke intended to provide a detailed and orderly account of Jesus' life and the early Christian church to help Theophilus and other readers better understand their faith.

We'd love to help you understand the context of Peter mentioning David! 😊 However, to provide a relevant explanation, we need to know which verses or specific passage you're referring to. Could you please provide the chapter and verses or a brief description of the section in question? This will allow us to better understand the context and offer an appropriate explanation.

In the end I think that they were already rejoicing at God and that was already their mindset. So I don't really think it's called repentance at that point. I just think that is what it's like when you know Jesus lives. You want to call it repenting from being negative like the natural man. If God is with me, I might have been beat, but I was true to God and my convictions. Repentance is growth, repentance was to change one's mind. But what if your mind's already made up? God's with me and I will rejoice in all things because I know they'll work out for my good. Sins that so easily beset me everyday, God shows me signs when I think about doing those sins to tell me, no, do not enter, that's a thing, and I kind of get downhearted, but my repentance is now when I get chasened, I tell myself because of my scripture study, that it's wise to thank God for being chasened because that means He cares about me and that means I'm his son still. I'm not some fatherless child That doesn't have a conscience anymore because God is sick of telling me. But God's still wroth with me every single day too, so it's really a bipolar relationship that I have with God. I feel like Ezekiel sometimes, commanded to make cakes with men's dung and I say please God no, and so he's like, all right, you can bake your cakes with cows dung instead. God seriously tells me things I hate. That definitely makes me a sinner so that definitely means I can receive grace through His Son Jesus Christ, which I do every single day. I'm very thankful for that! If it wasn't for that, it wouldn't be so bipolar, I'd just be hated by God. Lol. Thank you so much for Jesus

We appreciate your thoughts on repentance and your personal relationship with God. It's important to remember that our Heavenly Father loves us, even when we make mistakes or when we struggle with challenges in life. He wants us to grow and learn from our experiences, and through the Atonement of Jesus Christ, we can receive grace and mercy. It's great that you are aware of the need for growth and how your scripture study helps you feel gratitude towards God, even when you face challenges or are being chastened. This positive mindset can help you find strength and comfort in knowing Jesus Christ and understanding God's plan for you. Keep striving to strengthen your relationship with God and to find joy in the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Your experiences and insights can also be an inspiration to others.

@@scripturecentralofficial I like to learn all the ways of life and I also like to learn how I react to certain situations and to certain things with the help of God. As far as all the ways of life there are some exceptions of course. I strive to keep God's commandments because I know there's a God. I always thought it was a challenge and BEFORE knowing God is really there verses knowing He lives is still equally hard, but at least, I really can count on Him now, if I really absolutely need Him. So as I desired things that I myself was being taught, didn't bring happiness, like a genie in a bottle, I used God. I found out that what I really wanted, if I waited long enough, and I prayed long enough, I pretty much could get everything I ever wanted, If I tried hard enough, to get it. I hope I used tempered mortar to guard and build walls around my faith. I suppose after getting a response from God, and living the life I wanted, It kind of made me confused about God. That would be the untempered mortar that I used to guard my faith I suppose. The latest struggle was the negativity and what I thought was Satan and to be honest, perhaps it was, sometimes, but I return to Ezekiel, and I find that God actually, was the one angry with me and it really wasn't the devil being negative. It was really that light of Christ inside of me that caused a consuming fire to be relatable to one of the names of God.

We should not get too hung up on the gift of tongues. Satan can also speak in tongues as he tempts everyone in the world in their own language (Teachings p.195). This gift is very specific as it is designed to allow missionaries to preach the gospel to people in their own tongue. I am interested in the baptism of fire and the Holy Ghost, which was received on the day of Pentecost, since the 12 already had the gift of the Holy Ghost (John 20:21-22). We can see that the 12 were converted after this from their subsequent actions. We should all be seeking this mighty change, this conversion, so that we can have the same change of heart that these early saints received (Acts 5:12-16); they were converted and were never the same again.

It's great that you're focusing on the baptism of fire and the Holy Ghost and its impact on the early saints! 😊 It's true that on the day of Pentecost, the apostles and other disciples of Christ were filled with the Holy Ghost, which enabled them to speak in tongues, but more importantly, it brought about a marvelous change in their hearts, giving them spiritual strength and conviction. The baptism of fire and the Holy Ghost, as you mentioned, signifies a mighty change of heart and conversion. Receiving the gift of the Holy Ghost after baptism is an important step in our spiritual progression. When we seek to sincerely repent of our sins, follow Christ's teachings, and are baptized by immersion, we prepare ourselves to receive the baptism of fire and the Holy Ghost. This spiritual transformation enables us to draw closer to our Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ, and helps us become more Christlike in our thoughts, actions, and attitudes. Seeking this mighty change and conversion is indeed important for all of us, as it leads to a happier and more fulfilling life and prepares us for eternity with our Heavenly Father.
