Over forty people gathered on the beach to read this passage and others and answer questions to check how the passage is communicating. They were enthusiastic to read in their mother tongue about how the church began. There are about 20 churches in the language group. They have Scriptures in another language but not in their mother tongue which they know best. I was impressed how many people have learned to read their language and how well they understood the passage.

How beautifully explained. I didn't know this chapter was about the first church of Christianity. How refreshing how you pulled everything together. I will be reading this chapter and book of acts. It's a new beginning looking at the perspective differently. Thank you so much. Praise the Lord. Amen 🙏

I recently started reading the book of Acts and understood it but when I hit Acts: 2:29-36 I got a little confused. Thank you so much for explaining it better. You did an awesome job. What I got from chapter 2 is God has given us the gift of the Holy Spirit to help us in our Christian life.

In verse 12 the BELIEVERS said “what does this mean?” I thought it meant that the Spirit is calling them out and is working through them to reach others. Reply to this if you see something else in that verse or chapter!

I have a question when it says they were added to the church does that mean their names were added in the book of life?
@faithnavidad23073 жыл бұрын
Acts 2:47 is saying that many were baptised and saved through their faith upon the gospel daily. so to answer your question: yes!

So its 629 and I just got done watching this. As of late I have been discussing religion with a friend who is Pentecostal and I being raised as a Christian but stop attending a church in my 20 is finding me self drawn back to go but I'm very unsure on the view he has of speaking in tongues any advise or knowledge?
@BranchTogether4 жыл бұрын
Hi Tim. Speaking in tongues is unfortunately a great source of division in the church. Some feel that supernatural gifts have ceased but the scriptural evidence for this is very weak. For the Pentecostal church, this gift is part of what defines them. It was a big part of the birth of that movement and remains a large focus. Sometimes, perhaps the focus on that specific gift can be too great. Paul clearly states that it is good to speak in tongues, but it seems that this is not a gift given to everyone. We think the best way to handle it is to recognize it's a gift that God gives some, but it is NOT something that makes you a more important believer. It is a part of church life and should be prayerfully embraced...BUT, if you look at the balance of Scripture, it is definitely not a primary issue, so let's make sure we don't make it one.

Branch Together thank you for this because I know that there are many gifts gift of prophecy gift of leadership gift of pastoring etc if you want the gift o tongues pray for it for anything you ask for you will receive Matt 7vs 7

I think we also need to draw a clear line between, receive the gift or the promise of The Holy Spirit (which is evidenced by speaking in tongues) and the gift of speaking and interpretation of tongues (which are given for the edification of the Church).

I love Jesus but think "speaking in tongues" is jibberish.. God help me if im wrong but I think its a lie/diversion from the enemy
@amandalynnfalco3 жыл бұрын
@@Hayden734 Hi friend, maybe I can help. Have you asked yourself this question: If it is a lie of the enemy why would it be in the Bible multiple times?
@Hayden7343 жыл бұрын
@@amandalynnfalco do you believe everyone that speaks in tongues is under direct inspiration from the Holy Spirit? Never faked? Never driven by greed?
@BranchTogether3 жыл бұрын
@Hayden734 and @Amanda Falco - I'll jump in and comment on this. Yes, people fake gifts of the spirit. Yes, there are both cooks who fake it to con people (e.g. some fake healing events) and also good people that fake it for various reasons. BUT, there are also a host of people who experience supernatural gifts from God. Speaking in tongues is a gift that neither of our pastors has personally experienced but people we know and trust personally have. Also, there is no good scriptural argument for believing that God has done away with the gifts we see in Scripture. - Darren

There is one major thing to note in this passage, all that were present at Jerusalem were all jews and not other tribes. And we note that the miracle was not in the hearing but rather the speaking. Note they spoke in other tongues (dialektos) as the spirit gave ability. And the different Jewish nations (dialects) present are listed listed starting from vs 9 going down. The notable thing in this occurance is that God gave His Spirit(pneuma) which enabled the believers to communicate YHWHs wonderful works to the jews president at Jerusalem at that festival. Reading this portion of scripture contextual really, we understand that, the miracle YHWH showed here was the ability for the believers to speak other dialects of the Jewish nations represented there and not un unknown language not known to anyone on earth. Interpreting this passage of scripture this way is doing great inJustine to the text.
