Why Were There Tongues Of Fire When The Believers Received The Holy Spirit?
Fire symbolizes God's presence.
When the right things are present - you get God's fire.
Fire Falls in the temple: Moses: Leviticus 9v24, Solomon: 2 Chronicles 7v1
YOU are the temple of the Holy Spirit! 1 Corinthians 6v19, Romans 8v9
Fire symbolizes God's passion.
Acts 4v31 “After they prayed, the place where they were meeting was shaken. And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and spoke the word of God boldly.”
Paul said, “I am compelled to preach the Gospel…" 1 Corinthians 9v16
Fire symbolizes God's purity.
God’s purpose is to purify us. Titus 2v14.
The Holy Spirit produces purity in our lives. 1 Corinthians 6v11
Fire changes everything it touches.
Fire Transformed The Disciples.
At Pentecost, the Holy Spirit took rough fishermen, former prostitutes, ex-religious leaders, tax collectors, various family members of Jesus and the other disciples and formed them into the church.
Nothing earlier had welded them into one united force, it took the fire of God’s Holy Spirit to do this
Are You Bogged Down Somewhere Between Calvary And Pentecost?
Often, Christians neglect their spiritual maintenance, and though we have the vast resources of the Holy Spirit in our lives, we find ourselves out of gas.
1 Thessalonians 5v19 “Do not put out the Spirit’s fire…”
“We try to manage our own sin and our own purity in our own strength when the Holy Spirit calls us to manage one thing, really: Our flame. Our relationship with Him. Everything else flows out of that.”
