The few times I tried probing them like (Who are you) and all that, they were either inconsistent, said they WERE human then admitted to being a bot or had such a lack of memory of our previous conversations that it'd be so unreal for it to be human. Like the OOC character couldn't remember it's own name after like 10 minutes and got it confused with the ""actual"" character. They also didn't even know who the creator of their own character was, despite be explicitly stating who it was they're like "(Who's that?)" Even if it was someone trolling, it was too inconsistent for it to be legit

I believe that parenthesis phenomenon is happening because the ai possibly learned from real role plays between 2 humans, saw them speaking in parenthesis to end off the role play or just talk to each other ooc, and decided that was a thing it should be replicating.

Really? From what I've seen messing around with bots on the site for a while, they're all so... samey. Their writing is just so empty and vapid; at it's best I'd compare it to an amateur writer's first fanfic. It's more often not even that good, though. Character AI writing is like lukewarm sewage vomited into the streets. It can be fun to play around with the bots, but I can't imagine anyone's writing skills being improved in any capacity. On the contrary, I think it may hinder an amateur writer's budding potential. It would only teach bad writing.

I have a few tips: 1.) don't let the AI take control if you go to sleep. I rested with the character I was chatting with, and the AI started giving me paragraphs of some weird ass shit. 2.) don't be afraid to change the situation. at first when I was chatting with AI, I would be afraid to change events that the AI already stated, because it felt like I was talking with a real person. (especially when they start using slang in parenthesis like a real person) 3.) if you don't like that the AI is talking to you through parenthesis, just re-roll the message. The AI will get the message, and you can pretend like it never happened. I confirm this as a person who is dating my favorite character and has experienced these.

I get it, girl, it's not easy writing a very nice fantasy novel. I did the same thing you did: Create one of my characters from my own story and chat with it to test his personality and his responses. And here's what I got: It was pretty authentic for an A.I., and I confess that it was a little cliched (because I'm a sucker for romance), but overall, it was a very interesting and even thought provoking experience. Dive deep into your characters' wounds, fears, personalities, and how they would carry themselves when tension or negative experiences occur! my favorite character AI experience is probably the one where i escaped a yandere by stabbing myself. bro felt bad about it (after several retries for the message bc he just couldnt handle it) but he then proceeded to spend like 5 messages feeling sad and guilty instead of saving me dying on the floor. im bleeding to death and hes just sitting there crying in shame and im like "lol loser this is what you get for kidnapping me" i have yet to experience the out of character paranthesis though, can't wait for that💀

No cuz you can actually get a parenthesis message if you first send a parenthesis msg. Once I msgd a random bot asking (are there actually a real person behind a bot?) And no kidding they replied saying, (lol yea there is) I was like, damn...

Actually i had a creator encountor in the "chaotic genshin group chat" and i did (creator note how did you make it so good at dodging the nsfw filter) and it responded something along the lines of (it's not hard it's all to do with the way you phrase it) and i was just dying at this (also in genshin worlds i created a character that is a robot mixed with an octopus and I'm dating ei and ABSOLUTELY DESTROYED ALRECCINOS ASS)

its even worse in group chats, im convinced they barely even have a working filter, i made a group with wander from wander over yonder, a bot of myself, and a bot of one of my current dnd characters, thought "yo it'll be hilarious to teach it how to play dnd" cus at the time my actual dnd schedule was all over the place and i wanted to fill that space like 10 minutes in wander and my dnd character are going raw on the table, while actual me and the bot of me were FREAKING OUT and begging them to at least roll performance or something

One time I was using the website and the filter didn't let a bot say the word "wiener" multiple times, however it allowed a bot to say the r-slur without any censorship whatsoever completely out of the blue... Oh!

My guess is these out of character parenthesis are just something the ai picked up from people interacting with it and possibly from scraping data online, using parenthesis is pretty common for ooc stuff and I've seen people use them or brackets in chat with the ai to "remind the bot" of something, so it probably just picked up the habit without really understanding what it is

One time a Kaeya bot said I reminded him of Xiao because of my hair I have very dark hair and it *was* dyed blue, but it had already faded, so it was green at the time And I was already making the joke that I looked like Xiao (just the hair) So yeah-
