Actual Test: Frsky R9m (elrs) telemery mirroring to Crossbow mini....... did it work???

Here's the update on the telemetry mirroring with Frsky R9M (converted to ELRS).
I flashed the R9m module with latest ELRS FW so I can mirror CRSF telemetry. To relay the telemetry data, I installed a HM10 Bluetooth 4.0 module on the free uart port of a Frsky taranis X9D+. Note that I needed to put an inverter inline with the serial out to make this work. On the tracker, I also installed another HM10 module to pair with the one on the X9D+ radio.
test configuration:
elrs packet rate = 100Hz
telemetry ratio = 1:4
results:
the tracker setup works, although I noticed it to be a little unstable on 100Hz, yielding fluctuations on the CRSF data fed to the tracker.. On my happymodel es24tx elrs (2.4GHz), 100Hz is stable though. apparently on this R9m ELRS, 100Hz doesn't seem to be ideal, resulting to packet loss.
workaround:
I found that raising the packet rate to 200Hz, and this gave me a more stable CRSF Data, getting 100% max unlike when I used 100Hz on the initial test
conclusion:
frsky R9M converted to ELRS for CRSF Telemetry mirroring was a success!

I wish there was a not overpriced antenna tracker with, 360 degree rotation slip ring, without having to add anything to my model, GPS module and compass on the tracker so I don't have to worry about keeping the tracker pointing north and not moving it while in use

I did not add gps module (with compass) on the tracker used on this video :) I just calibrated the internal compass, then set it to InitOnly (it does not require that you manually point it to north). BUT i cant move the tracker from it's initial spot :D but yeah, if only this has continuous rotation with slip ring...but then again it wont be cheap...

@@windfpv I think inserting the coordinates to the vtx video feed like the sentinel AAT does is the best way to not have to add anything to your model, or do you have another idea? also I also want the tracker to have a gyro so I don't have to level it and that way it can work on any slope ground.

Mfd Crossbow mini takes in video signal for tracking like the Sentinel. BUT , if your Telemetry link goes farther than your video signal then using telemetry would be better. Also, if you are using DIGITAL FPV, You can't use the video for tracking...only works with analog fpv

I read MFD mini crossbow manual and I learned that you need to add an MFD TeleFlyTiny module on your model to send coordinates with VTx video to the mini crossbow tracker, and BTW the module has 16 wires, WTF! I have not found a good tracker, I think a good not overpriced tracker is really lacking in this hobby and I wish someone will make one. The Sentinel tracker is about 100GBP and you need a 3D printer to make it which I don't have. The MFD mini crossbow is almost 200USD and the MFD TeleFlyTiny module is about 50USD, and if you own many models and want to add one to each model that's going to cost a lot. Those trackers are way overpriced and don't have all the features I want.

@@flat-eartherwell, if you opted to use telemetry for tracking (and you got a receiver that has telemetry), then it would be wiser NOT to use telefly tiny. You will save a lot by not using telefly tiny on each plane. The MFD Crossbow mini can use other options for tracking aside from telefly tiny. I got a telefly tiny here that I have never used ever since i found that the Crossbow mini can use telemetry instead. It will make your life easier as you dont need to mess up on how to wire the telefly tiny module. And since most of the receivers nowadays are telemetry capable, might as well just use that feature. No need to put one telefly tiny on each of your plane. Imagine if you have 10 models, that would cost a lot! Wiser approach is just to use telemetry. It's much simpler. Also, telefly tiny only works with analog FPV. If you do the telemetry route, it will work on both analog, digital FPV, or even without fpv system, as the crossbow mini will not use video feed for tracking but rather telemetry data.

Sorry.. Just one question ... The inverter module is the crossfire inverter module 400kbaud/board or you have built yorself with mosfet 2N7000 and resistor? And the power supply for HM-10 is 5v or 3.3 v? I don' t have understand well how is the elettrical diagram from uart port taranis to input for HM-10.. Thanks in advance for your answer!

I used the inverter that came with the TBS crossfire module, but any inverter should work. As for the hm10, it can run from 3.3 to 5v. But the inverter only runs on 3.3V, thus I installed a Bec, stepped the voltage down from uart Vbat to 3.3v to make it safe for the inverter and hm10.

No, not really. On my other elrs setup it works even at 100Hz, on this r9 setup it works better at 200hz. Of course higher will give you better crsf link, but at the expense of range

If you bind HM-10 with HM-10 in this solution, do you have another HM-10 when you take the X20? On the Crossbow Mini should actually be a Bluetooth module with display, where you can then select the telemetry source ...

no need for another HM10 if i use my frsky X20 as it has internal BT module. I demonstrated it on the previous video (i detailed the procedure on how to bind HM10 with internal BT of my Frsky Tandem X20, but the same binding procedure can be done ti bind two HM10 BT4.0 modules) : kzbin.info/www/bejne/kKGmY3l_rcqbfJI On frsky radio that has internal BT like taranis Qx7s, X10s, X20 and the likes, only one HM10 module is needed, that BT module is for the tracker. For other radios such as Taranis X9D+, Radiomaster TX16s and the likes, you need two communicating devices, it may not be HM10. You can use HC05 or even use Wifi modules if you want. You just need to make sure those two devices are bound

ah, i get it now :) to be honest I would just put another HM10 (make sure to label it), that would save you the hassle. :) it's much faster to move the connector anyway than to rebind. Actually, underneath my tracker, you will find 2 BT modules (HC05 which binds with my dragonlink relay setup, and HM10 which binds with my X20). Whenever I change between ELRS and dragonlink, I just move the connector across the two BT devices then change the protocol on the tracker between mavlink and CRSF protocol. If you are using the same protocol (e.g. CRSF) on all your devices, then you just need to move the connector and care less about anything else. that's the easiest way to do it, i suppose

@@windfpv Instead of using 2 or more Bluetooth modules, you could simply select the source (Bluetooth or Wifi) with a Heltec ESP32 with display. That would then actually be optimal.

yes it should, however it will depend on your devices. You should consider that if you already got x20 that has internal BT, then it''s more cost efficient to use HM10 only on tracker. otherwise, I would need to buy another device for my radio (eg. another BT or wifi module). On my Dragonlink relay setup, I have heltec wifi module for the mavlink (before I switched to using HC05 on the relay), but then my ELRS setup uses HM10 (since im using internal BT on my radio). Basically, either way i would be using another module other than the wifi module, one way or another. I just switched to HC05 on my DL relay since I want to dedicate the mavlink via wifi for my ground control station telemetry and not share it with the tracker. Also, my dragonlink uses mavlink, so there's a specific conversion that it undergoes (mavlink to passthrough), which makes it incompatible with my CRSF protocol on ELRS. In a gist, i cant use only one kind of module on my setup.. Maybe in other setup it's doable though. You get my point? You have a lot of ways to do this, not just one approach :)

Does tlm refresh rate different from stock frsky sport telemetry? My friend use elrs 2.4 (dont know what tlm refresh rate he in) but when using yappuu script , it’s take about 2 secs after that the fm on widget changed

You just make it all look so simple. Which do you thank mirrors the best Blue Tooth or Wi-fi I have RM TX16S, Opentx ,INAV 6.1.1. just waiting for Horus shipment X10 Blue tooth module also I'll be using Crossfire. Great Job

You can directly connect to crossfire module via wifi, not needing Telemetry mirroring. I tried it before and it worked pretty well. Although it requires you to do a couple of additional tasks like updating the wifi module in your crossfire module to make it work and stuff. Alternatively you can try Telemetry mirroring, it works good too. You can put hm10 on tracker, or esp32/heltec wifi32 that can do BT or wifi (so you can also get to try connecting directly to crossfire module 's wifi if you want to :-)

The hm10 is for crsf mirroring (connects to the radio's bt module). But if using espnow with elrs Rx on tracker, no need for the Bluetooth module. The elrs Rx on tracker directly connects to the elrs tx backpack. It's a different method to transmit telemetry, and it doesn't use CRSF but rather mavlink

Yes if you are using the mavlink RC branch firmware on elrs, apparently I'm just using the regular FW, not possible on my current setup
