My great niece was killed by a man who fled police. He sped so fast that he split my mothers Chevy traverse in two, putting my mother in the hospital with 5 fractured ribs and ejecting my 6 year old niece, car seat and all, killing her. He's been charged with fleeing police and vehicular homicide. It's stories like these that make me fear that he will be back on the streets to do this again. Her name was Harlow Jet Tran, this happened in coral springs Florida on May 5th, her killers name is Chevon Graham.

Gotta love that sad music they play while they tell the story too. Don't underestimate the effect that music has on the human brain. It "informs" you how you _should_ be feeling about what you're seeing and hearing. It's handy for (admitted) fiction. It lets the audience know "Oh, I'm supposed to be sad now. Okay." Or that they're supposed to be shocked or preparing for something big to happen. And, ya know... fine. It's fiction. It helps us know when something is a joke or when it's actually serious (because sometimes it can be hard to tell). Using that effect on "The News" TM to manipulate the audience's emotions in the same way is just slimy and underhanded. It's what the Not-seas used to do to generate outrage and revulsion towards a certain segment of the population. BUT... it's all pretty much ubiquitous for pieces like these. Business as usual. People are so used to it; they would miss it if it wasn't there.
