Been sick the last few days and today I'm flying to the CZ for Xmas. I'll be back in Jan there's 2-3(I don't like one of them very much) videos that I've prerecorded so it's not gonna be a complete drought. EDIT: Also because I recorded all the videos in rather rapid succession they might suck more than usual.

You should really do a video designing your ideal PCB for a videocard some day. I think manufacturers take note of these things as they start becoming more common in the consumer's mind, so it could result in us getting better designs. (I know for a fact this is happening in the cordless tool world.)

Any "design flaws" are due to cost-cutting and increasing profit margins, don't think for a second that the people engineering these components don't have the knowledge to create excellent products.

Sapphire Nitro + SE 590 is the card to see next. It is the (only?) one that OCs mem and OC clocks to 1670 so they must be doing something right as others top off at 1640-1650.

as a led driver designer i can't help but be happy that i don't have to deal with hundreds of amps of current from multiple phases ;) the worst i had to do was ~35A on a 35*150mm board that also needed usb c battery charging, battery protection and a mcu on it. making that not blow up took me forever :D (the first 2 attempts the mosfets literally just blew up and killed a 150$ LED each -.-)

I know you are not tech support, but I'm stuck with what I believe is a broken product. I bought this exact card about 2 months ago and it's crashed on me a couple of times and that's running it completely stock. Any Benchmark or burn test I run seems fine and stable. I have not been able to reproduce the crashes reliably at all and it seemed extremely random. However, 2 days ago I played War Thunder for the first time since getting the card and it started crashing all the time. After hours of testing I removed my side panel, cranked my aircon, placed a large floor fan to force air into the side of the case, and took manual control of the crad's fans. With this setup I could keep the GPU below 75 degrees under load and experienced no crashes while playing War Thunder. I then reset everything, closed the side panel, and not long after the card goes over 80 degrees while playing War Thunder, it would crash. If the game was the cause, it should crash regardless of temp, right? If it gets too hot it should thermal throttle... not crash my entire rig, right? I have zero crashes with my old HD 7850 and zero crashes with my previous card, a 1050ti. I did do a fresh install of windows to make sure there are no driver conflicts. When the crash happens, the display output cuts out completely and the only way to get it back is with a cold boot. Just hitting reset does not work which to me seems like a hardware/firmware issue.... maybe? Clearly something is not stable here, but the retailer I bought it from said that if stress tests shows no issues that returning it would most likely not be possible. Any advice would at this stage be highly appreciated.

Running a 580 Nitro at 1550MHz I can easily pull over 300W from my cards lol I was expecting the XFX 590 to have a better PCB than the first 480 from XFX but looks like they went backwards instead? I thought the 480 XFX or 580 had over 300A VRM capability?

About that metal casing on the fets, wouldn't that be the perfect place for an intentional schottky barrier? If they were shorted to each other at least one of them would be in reverse, and as far as I know it doesn't affect thermal resistance (other than the needed coating which I assume is negligible). Could be a neat little safety feature

@@ActuallyHardcoreOverclocking Ah, cool. I remember that Steve said it in the teardown video of that particular card that you gonna come up with PCB breakdown video. He also mentioned that they gonna review the card, but its been almost a month and there's no review to be found and thats not only with this card/part. At least you are pretty serious bout your channel. It'd be nice if you can get your hands on a 590 and maybe do a livestream like the RX 580 Red Devil. Have a great holiday !

@@kindis4282 Eh I have a bunch of gigabyte boards here I'm supposed be making videos about. So it's not like I'm any better about doing things quickly. GN just prioritizes things like the Titan RTX cards since those get more views.
@kindis42825 жыл бұрын
@@ActuallyHardcoreOverclocking Yeah, im not mad or anything but its kinda disappointing when Steve says ''Expect a review of the card'' but later on they move on a different thing. Steve said that GN is a review outlet, not a influencer-type channel but I think they are transitioning into that model, maybe because they want to expand, dunno. Anyway, cant wait for the z390 AORUS ''content'', whatever it may be.

Hello, i have the same one, just purchased, fairly cheap, but i think i was scammed. When cleaning it and applying thermal paste, i noticed the chcips with the number 1 (to the left of the X capacitors i think?) are a bit "burned" or at least they look more brownish. GPU also crashes when playing or even starting up the computer at times (Black screen, sound continues if playing a video for example). I have tried multiple Driver versions with DDU beforehand and nothing has worked. Think its a bad GPU? or could it be my PSU (fairly generic brand, 600w but actually gives less than 500w). Temps are rarely at 80, maximum i have seen is 85.

Hi, can actually show me image what controls the fans to spin, mine has stopped working, gpu is fine but the fans twitch a bit and cant spin, looks like not enough power to them, cause i dont see anything burned on board, and the service they say they could not find what went wrong, so pls show me image of fans controller or what controls the voltage of the fans that make them spin, faster and slower tywm

I gotta say, the straight up hatchet job that the media did to this product was just fucking disgusting. So, 6 months earlier, Ryzen 2000 dropped and "put Intel on their heels!", it's been SO heavily praised for gaining ground in the market and being a fantastic product line for any price point or need - as it should be. Meanwhile, AMD does the SAME. EXACT. THING. with this RX590 - and, yet, they 'deserve' to get fucking buried publicly for offering a LEGITIMATELY NEW product, that the same people burying it have proven empirically, indisputably, reaches a higher level of performance than the RX580 can hit, since it's literally physically limited by its inferior manufacturing process. Steve @ HardwareUnboxed even picked a top tier factory overclocked RX580 to compare this XFX 590(that could certainly be offered in a qualitatively 'better' configuration) to - because "...it's just an overclocked RX580"[eye roll], which couldn't keep up with the superior RX590. Because obviously. This honestly couldn't be much more hypocritical; within the same year, the same people were shoveling praise on Ryzen 2000 - for being the EXACT. SAME. THING. What's really crazy is that designing and manufacturing computer hardware THIS complex and high performance - x86 CPUs and discrete PC GPUs, thing kings of all mass produced silicon in terms of pure and utter computational performance - is SO fucking insanely expensive and difficult that there are only *THREE* companies left in the entire world that actually legitimately compete on this level. And, yet, in spite of they're willing to downright LIE about what a product actually is just because of their utterly logic-lacking personal "opinion" about it. AMD didn't even try to mislead people and describe it as something that it wasn't - they literally described it as a 12nm RX580. Just like they described Zen+/Ryzen 2000 as 12nm Zen 1/Ryzen 1000. BTW, no outrage that Intel is still putting 14nm Skylake-refresh CPUs on our plates and telling us to "be happy"? Nah, didn't think so...

A year late, but you put a non-conductive thermal pad between them and the block, same as you'd do with a heatsink.

So,is rx 590 more power hungry than rx 580??(tdp,plz reply!!)
@RyTrapp05 жыл бұрын
No, the as-benchmarked power consumption figures I've seen match the 580. With this being the 580 architecture and specs on the 12nm node instead of the 14nm node, they've picked up ~15% efficiency gain. Now - theoretically speaking - they can either undervolt the card while keeping the clocks the same and pick up an ~15% power draw decrease, or they can increase clock speed by ~7.5% while decreasing power draw by ~7.5%, or they can keep the power draw the same and increase the clock speeds by ~15%(or any ratio between the two extremes). AMD chose the latter. Now, in spite of saying all of that, I still thought that the 590 would draw more, I thought they may be able to push it a little harder on 12nm. But, surprisingly enough, in the reviews I've seen that directly compared the 590 to the 580, the reported power draw during benchmarks was the same. BTW, don't take my percentage description thing up there as pure gospel, the efficiency gains & consumption vs potential clock speed aren't quite as 'clean' as described, that's just the general idea of what AMD did when they engineered this manufacturing process upgrade. Also, as [I believe] Buildzoid described about half way in, the 590 may consume power at a more aggressive rate as you push it on exotic cooling. If that's where you're coming from.

What a crappie PCB compared to the MSI GTX 1080 Ti LIGHTING Z and the GALAX GTX 1080 Ti 8 Pack Edition. AMD cannot compete against NVidia in the GPU front as simple as that.
@Thelango994 жыл бұрын
The RX 590 is a lot cheaper than the 1080TI, so of course the pcb has to be less expensive to manufacture.
