In a previous video, I focused on the differences between a Clarifying and Chelating ingredients. We focused on what kind of buildup is removed by each. I also stressed on the fact that ACV is not a clarifying ingredient and the misinformation surrounded the concept.
If you have not watched that video, please feel free to check it out:
• FINAL WASH, CLARIFYING...
In this video I show you how to use Apple Cider Vinegar on Curly/Wavy Hair for the purposes of removing product buildup, pool water chemicals and hard water minerals.
ACV as an ingredient can be used every 4 to 6 weeks but not more than that, unless you're suffering from dandruff in the winter months and need to tackle the issue asap.
ACV has multiple benefits, it balances pH, it helps with dandruff, it removes buildup from the scalp, it helps unclog the pores on the scalp, thereby reducing hair fall (clogged scalp = hair fall)
In you have acute dandruff (not to be mistaken with a flaky scalp) consider using ACV with the spray bottle method as a pre-poo before you start your wash routine. Leave it on for 30 mins maximum and then go in with your regular shampoo.
If you're considering using ACV as a chelating ingredient to remove buildup from regular product use (ie leave in condition, hair creams, mousses & gels) you can go in with ACV in a shampoo form or the DIY form in-shower, post your regular shampoo and conditioning steps.
It might been counter-intuitive to condition your hair before stripping it clean right? Why add product, when the aim of chelating is to remove product buildup... no???? I did struggle with the logic behind it myself. Let us remember that we aren't here to reinvent the wheel. We're here to learn and grow together. If you stumble upon valid literature stating otherwise, you how where to find me.
For now lets say that, upon reviewing the existing literature out there, I was unable to find a decent article that did not recommend this step. Let us assume that the best reason for this could potentially be, freshly detangled hair.
Now lets talk about ACV. This magical ingredient really packs a punch with its medical properties. You can absolutely add this ingredient to your routine if you have straight hair. In this video, however, we're focusing on how to use it, if you are following the curly girl method in India and are looking for a DIY or a store bought solution.

Hi, I am new to CGM and your videos are helping me a lot to understand and start!! I have a question- Do we need to Pre-Poo when planning to clarify?
@MichelleManuel
@MichelleManuel 2 жыл бұрын
You don't need to. But you can if you want to. Personally when I clarify I'm trying to get a fresh start and remove all product buildup from my hair and so I don't usually use oil. If you want have weak and dry hair, you could choose to Pre-poo. It will help to protect the hair from getting overly stripped. Personally I can do without it. It's totally subjective though. Try both ways and see what suits you best

Bought detoxie's hard water relief and.. uh hairfall something, shampoo instead! Since I found out that the hard water in my area was wreaking havoc on my hair and scalp! Just used it once so far but I really liked how cleansing but gentle it was..turns out it's also fragrance free to my utter surprise! Really wasn't expecting that.. Yay! Wondering if you'd want to give it a try and share your views! p.s: I specifically checked the label to see if it's cruelty free before mentioning here :D

Holy moly!!! I was doing so many things wrong with ACV rinse.. I just kept pouring the whole bowl on my head hence not covering all my hair, also I was shampooing after the rinse!!! 🤐.. Got it now, definitely doing the bowl method next. PS - love love the robe 😉. Had 2 questions though.. 1. Is it absolutely necessary to deep condition my hair afterwards since I have medium porosity hair? Or normal conditioning will do before the styling that includes a leave-in and gel as usual? 2. during winter times is it fine to do acv rinse since it makes my hair a bit dry later? Then maybe the deep condition thingy wud be necessary.. Am I right?💭 Super enlightening video again!😘😍
@MichelleManuel
@MichelleManuel 3 жыл бұрын
Ahhhhh, the pouring.... Its a done thing if you ask me. Better to try many methods and see what you like best. Yes, you have normal porosity hair, but why skip the deep conditioning after an acv rinse? You wash your hair every few days right? No harm in deep conditioning once a week atleast. If you're using a shampoo with sodium lauroyl sarcosinate, please deep condition after your acv rinse! It's very useful in the beginning for curl training as well. You can include so many curl training tricks while you leave your dc on. Finger coil, spiral the hair, use sponge/foam rollers, pin curl.... As I'm writing this, I realise a video would be a good idea... Coming up soon! ❤️ Thank you for your questions! It inspires so much of my content. ❤️❤️❤️

Okay this video was a revelation! I've been using the St Botanica Apple Cider vinegar shampoo as my regular shampoo for months and it helped me with my mild dandruff. I also live in a place where the water we get is from underground, which I believe is more hard than water coming from surface water bodies. But just so I am a bit clearer, I should use the acv shampoo once a month, a sulfate shampoo once a month and for the remaining washes a gentle shampoo with milder surfactants?
@MichelleManuel
@MichelleManuel 3 жыл бұрын
Is the st botanical shampoo cg friendly? Ie does it contain silicones? If you're using a silicone, you would have to use a sulphate as well. Otherwise you'll have massive buildup. So there's no need to clarify your hair separately. Your regular shampoo does the job. Acv as an ingredient will help balance ph. I have a video coming out tomorrow that will explain things better. Basically what I'm suggesting is this. use a cg shampoo with a surfactant on regular wash days. Chelate with acv once every 4-6 washes and clarify once every 4-6 washes. If you do not follow cg then no need to clarify or chelate. You can opt to use the st botanical acv shampoo every wash day in that case. Hopefully tomorrow's video explains things better.
@Hari-bz1mh
@Hari-bz1mh 3 жыл бұрын
@@MichelleManuel Thanks for your reply! No, I don't follow cg but I do use a lot of products that are cg friendly. The acv st botanica shampoo I use is sulfate and silicone free. But I do use a silicone hair serum on specific days (mostly if I have to go out for an event, which in these times isn't very often anyway). So I could keep a sulfate shampoo ready for washes once in a while.

I generate take some from my mum in law. She buys acv with the mother in it for health reasons (Acv with the mother basically means the fancy kind of Acv that has a sediment that lies at the bottom of the bottle. The sediment is called the mother). I'll ask my mil for the name of the brand. Not sure.
