If Portrait of a Lady on Fire was made in the US it'd be just another cheesy love story that was filmed thousands of times before. French movies are incredibly deep, relatable, raw... Easy, most DVD movies have English & French languages, so watch the movie in English first and then a few weeks later watch it again but this time with French language (no subtitles), you already know the movie's story so you will catch French very quickly, it works trust me, that's the way I learned English (watching French movies in English).
