As a French, I'm very touched by how Portrait of a Lady On Fire has a huge success in other countries. All the comments in here are in english, which shows Adele Haenel is internationally famous and loved. I've rarely been this proud of something or someone from my own country.

If Portrait of a Lady on Fire was made in the US it'd be just another cheesy love story that was filmed thousands of times before. French movies are incredibly deep, relatable, raw... No unnecessary special effects. But, of course, this is all a matter of taste! :)

I had (still do but it got a bit better) very bad social anxiety and when I see the way she behaves, it reminds me so much of myself like the sweaty palms, the head jerking, can’t sit still etc... I’m not trying to diagnose or put labels. It’s just that I feel less alone seeing a big celeb behaving like me.

Easy, most DVD movies have English & French languages, so watch the movie in English first and then a few weeks later watch it again but this time with French language (no subtitles), you already know the movie's story so you will catch French very quickly, it works trust me, that's the way I learned English (watching French movies in English).
