I would suggest if one is fishing deeper than a few feet that they use a nylon stopknot as that will pass through the rings whereas these rubber stops will not. Since the whole idea of using a slider is to float fish in water that is deeper than you can fix the float at and still cast out I think the rubber top stop is a big no no. If you are using big rings like on a carp rod then the rubber stops may work but on a normal float rod they won't and I know. Years ago I bought some very small slim stops just like these to fish 15' deep with a 12' rod and they jammed in the rings every time I tried to cast out. Use thin nylon with long tails and you shouldn't get a problem. Trim the tails and it will hook up on the rings.

Hi John, the stops Phil was using will go through your guides, as like you say thats the way the slider works - it enables you to fish 16ft of water with a 12ft rod for example. He was using the small rubber line stops from Korum.

hi mate im new to this fishing , and totally agree with what you have said regarding the stop knot but why do they leave the long tails on the knot rather than trim them right down ? dont they get caught in the rod rings
@johngmls4 жыл бұрын
@@fitman42 Hi Fitman, It is exactly the opposite. When you use a nylon knot then the knot stops the float however if you cut the tags short they are stiffer and more prone to hooking up on the rings. Best was to demonstrate it is if you cut a 1" length of 12lb or more line and also a 4" section then stich the short piece into your palm you will find it is very stiff and it feels a bit like a needle. If you try the same with the longer length it is impossible to do it just folds over. Imagine the same going through your rod rings and the short section is so stiff it will hook up unless you manage to cut it very short. The long length will just fold over every time and not catch. Hope that helps.

@@fitman42 if you trim them down the knot passes through the float keep them an inch or so long

Have to agree with John. My float rod has very fine top rings and any float stops catch without fail. A fine breaking strain stop knot with long tails passes through no problem. I do have to use a micro bead and standard bead as well but it is a proven method which works every cast.

Do you have to match the Olivette to the float? Or can you just use any unloaded float and enough weight to reach the bottom?
@AnglingDirectTV3 жыл бұрын
Hi Max, its best to use an ollivette that is slightly lighter than the rating on the float. That way it allows you to add some dropper shot on the hook length. If you use a float rated at 3 grams a 2.5 gram ollivette would be perfect.

Simpler to buy a Polaris , or locktite float they work fine

i dont understand this , all the ones ives seen use a sliding stop knot . how does a float stop go through the rod rings ?? excuse me if i sound stupid but knew to slider fishing and a little confused now
@AnglingDirectTV4 жыл бұрын
Hi Fitman42, the float stops used in the video where very small Korum float stops that passed through the eyes of the rod fine. But you could use a stop knot instead of a float stop if you wish.

@@delwigzieful hi,I am just courious what works better for stop knots:dental floss or braid?How long you leave the tags so they pass through the rod rings without coming loose and moving on the main line?thanks!
@TitusAduxas1003 жыл бұрын
@@fishon7159 only thing you need to be sure of is leave the tag ends long, if they are cut short they are stiffer and will catch easily. Use as fine a breaking mono as possible. My tag ends are at least 2" never shorter. Never had a problem with mono but sure floss or braid will work just as well

as a beginner angler, I can say that this isn't a simple rig set up in the slightest...
@AnglingDirectTV3 жыл бұрын
Hi Josh, In terms of float fishing I completely agree, a simple waggler set up would be perfect. With regards to slider float fishing this is a simple version of the method, it can certainly get more complicated than this, the slider is normally only required in very deep water. Regards Steve

this slider is for where for 2 feet deep water ? JOKE
@AnglingDirectTV6 жыл бұрын
?? This is a slider float rig and can be fished in any depth of water, within reason. You just set the small rig stop to the depth you require.
