'Tivoli' is Graeme Murphy’s tribute to the days of the Tivoli theatre and its tour circuit.
Through a narrative devised by Murphy, Janet Vernon and Kristian Fredrikson, we meet a group of theatrical characters from the Tivoli era. We witness through changing times just how Jack, the hero, equipped with much ambition, achieves his place in Tivoli history.
Our story of Jack unfolds onstage, backstage, in the foyer and at the Frisco Bar adjacent to the theatre. Accompanied by a host of colourful performers and watched over by the restless ghost of former star, Miss Evelyn Rose, Jack journeys on until he must choose between a new future and the ‘Spirit of Tivoli’.
