These cylinders always sound clearer than the old acoustic 78 records of the day do in my opinion; marvelous quality for a 1912 recording!!

She had such a unique voice. I can't help but wonder what Ada would've sounded like in person.

Sounds like your motor is much quieter then mine. The V is a nice machine and the auto stop works great. May I suggest that you look at the anti flutter pins. They are easy to miss and are located on the left side of the fly wheel. It sounds as though they are broken or missing. With those installed properly the flutter will go away entirly. I have about 50hrs of time spent on 2 different Vs so if you need help just ask.

Thanks very much for the comment and the suggestion. I will take a look at those flutter pins and see if they are missing or broken.

Very good sound quality for a 1912 acoustic recording, even the wording is clear. Thanks for posting.

You are partly correct, over at Edison they were called the Premier Quartet and also with the wonderful Mr. Billy Murray as the lead Tenor of the group.

the anti flutter pins are there, not broken and appear to be in good shape. Thanks for the suggestion.

We used to listen to this and other cylinders plus 12" records while cowering in our cellar during the beginning of the ware, getting showered by whitewash. We gave up after a bit and just watched the doodle-bugs, still playing anytrhing available! Thanks.

Thank you sir for your kind remarks. Gotta love those unique and special Amberola V's, the only Edison table model with an automatic stop. Ada and Billy sure do sound great on that machine!!

Please explain what a flutter pin is. I always thought that there was just a flywheel under the rounded cover that would prevent flutter. Thanks

Does the amberola IV have the piviot joint that connects the horn to the reproducer or does the horn just move with the reroducer? If your machine has the pivit joint you might be able to put in an edison adaptor ring and use a model H reproducer so you can play wax amberols, but still it won't play 2 minute records. Thanks

The original "Moon - June - Spoon"! Thanks for this. Will frequent play wear out the cylinder? I try not to play my acoustic 78's too much on my Victor. Do you have the cylinder version, if there is one, of Ada singing "My Pony Boy"? I have her Victor disc, but think she also made a recording for Edison (?).

I have an Amberola IV that looks much like that, but without an automatic shutoff. It's my real workhorse for 4 minute amberol cylinders. Too bad I can't play my wax on them....I have to use my Edison Standard 2/4 minute machine that is not as robust.

+Icarus Airways ... what an ignorant generalization. There's no room in art for dogmatists. Writing off entire genres of music is regressive. There are tons of young people who are missing out on great music because they refuse to listen to "dated" music from bygone zeitgeists, and their are older folk who refuse to explore new music and to live forever in a nostalgic comfort zone, and both are cultural cancer.
